Fallout 2 troubles

Neogy

First time out of the vault
here you go wooz (banning wuss)
I have a amd 64 2.0 ghz
1 g ram
windows xp 1
nvidia 6600 gt

I have the 1.02d uk patch and large fallout (have tried humongeous)

AGAIN :

I have looked on the stickies and tried what is explained
which lead me to....nothing
yes I have tried to limit background programs to zonealarm only (sorry if you dont like zonealarm, I do)
I have tried reinstalling, bigger and smaller, and with and without patch. nothing changed
I have tried manual installing and it claimed that I didnt have the cd in the drive, tried no cd crack didnt work....
I have tried compatability
both 95 and 98, with the 256 color and disabled visual theme
I tried to disable my gfx but it inverted like told about in sticky so I chose not to do that.

THE ISSUE
I have an issue, I have been in vault 13 once and now I am going back with voice modulator, and each time I load into vault 13
it glimpses of the screen and then goes black.

before you start ranting omg this is explained, then stop.

I guess my question is, what options are left if any ?
if I dont have a 98 windows to install for VMware thingie.

HUH ?
I tried to read the "application error" it created but my whole screen goes black and remains black until I kill fallout 2
so I cant see what is wrong...

DIDNT WORK
I also tried pushing c,f or f1 and escape, but pressing escape only made it go back to windows...

ANY HOPE LEFT FOR ME ?

btw I heard it could be a glitch and if I started over it wouldnt do it again...

help

and wooz dont vat this again

PS: btw someone replied to the vatted one, that the glitch
I mentioned might be true.
You are right it might, but wth haven't you cared to mentioned it in wooz's beloved sticky ?

Well done, now your post is fine. Try not to talk back to our staff, though.

This thread will not be vatted.

Now wait patiently for someone to reply with tips. I have none at hand.

PS: one question, what's your Operating System?

sounds good =)

I have tested with no car in the vault 13 cave
with and without follower npcs
and with nothing in my inventory (I heard too many items could cause black screens)

Have you thought of simply disabling Zonealarm as well? Because, you know, you really should try that.

PS: btw someone replied to the vatted one, that the glitch
I mentioned might be true.

Cut the attitude, please. It's completely misplaced.
And the reason it's not in there is that I've never actually heard of that glitch, and it doesn't occur often, so it's pretty useless to put in the sticky.

Anyway, have you come any closer to answering the questions I asked? Have you tried manually copying the data?
Also, the no-cd cracks should work, I've tried them myself. Have you applied them properly?

sorrt sander, wooz made me mad, I have a temper issue =/

yes I have tried the manual install

my no-cd crak was a exe file that did something, dunno what

it worked on my normally installed fallout

I followed your manual install link to the letter.
which btw made me confused that not more should be in fallout2.cfg....

I guess I will try again, just to try something

!!!!!!!!!EDIT!!!!!!!!!:
Tried again, this time the no-cd patch worked
and I went in and loaded....
it did the same, a glimpse of the inside of vault 13 and the black screen
this was a humougous manual install, which I have also been told can have some issues in it self.
but atleast I tried it.
I wonder if dosbox can run it, just seems a bit wierd, only that place.
it smells of corrupt data as you said sander, but since the files checks out (the manual install confirms this) I dunno....

anyone know a quick way to learn of vault 13 location, then I can start a new game to test that theory. Maybe just make a cheat character to test it, I guess that is next step

so please if you know, write a quick "how-to" find location of vault 13

First, your cd might be corrupted, second, your system might be corrupted, solutions, buy a new cd or try to install other or format...
Sorry if thts not the correct diagnostic, but i think its that

heodien, I actually did format just recently, where fallout did the fuckup before the format as well. (edit this doesnt mean 2 different games, but just that I reinstalled fallout2 after and imported the old savegames)

killap....I dont mean to sound stupid...where is the scripts folder ?

I cant see one anywhere in my fallout2 dir

and who is matt ?

sorry for being newb =/

sorry, forgot

but seriously, no comments on the script folder ?

or the quick way to find location of vault 13 ?

hmm :(

Getting to Vault 13 quickly would be done through the following:

Per's Guide said:
To get to Westin's ranch to the west you can either talk to Dumont about work and get a recommendation, or have quest 5 from Vault City to deliver a holodisk. In the nearest building inside you find Saltbeef, the old drunk. Giving him a Beer or similar (except for Rot Gut) you can get him to tell you about how he found Vault 13 and how he scribbled a map on the back of a painting, which is now in the possession of doctor Jubilee. Jubilee will sell the painting for a whooping $10,000 (which you can steal back). Once you have the painting, examine it and Vault 13 shows up on your world map. This is not really necessary even for diplomatic characters.

..\BlackIsle\Fallout2\data\scripts

Just copy over the new file that I posted. (backup the older one first)

well killap that was nice

it works now

I am puzzled though, my large "normal" installation, didn't have a scripts folder under the data folder.
So I just made one and copied the file there
and vupti it worked

it worked omg

thanks for the help, maybe make the file you linked my a static downloadable file on nma ?

Well, in theory it is on NMA. My huge unofficial Fallout 2 patch contains this fix as well as hundreds of others. I greatly suggest people playing Fallout 2 to use it as it GREATLY enhances the gaming experience.

In any case, I am glad your issue is sorted out.

Nice PR work bear dude.

I have your patch and I still crash.

But, that script thingy sure fixed it...

Thanks

Also, was Matt the dude who was locked up for trying to kill the mother deathclaw and destroying the voice module? Because yeah, I killed him. He needed to die.

But I'm still curious as to how this crash pops up. >_>;

That fix should be in my latest patch up, so no idea why you would still crash.

As for why it crashes, there is a scripting error in Gruthar's script. The error pops up as soon as you enter the vault and have killed Matt.
