Fallout 3 at E3 - RPGamer Q&A

Heh, yet another unique aspect of Fallout eroded. First INT-based speech, now the differences gender opened up, which included new content and different ways to do quests.
To be fair, gender was hardly a big factor in, well, anything in the first game. Even in the second game it barely featured and only changed a few things.

And yet removing it totally is a step backwards... again.
Anyway, it would be nice to move forward, improve crpgs. Character's age as at least a bit important factor, character's sex too... But nooo, instead of moving forward let's go backwards- into oblivion.

Well, true enough. But it was yet another way to solve quests - seems recently people have just talked about stealth, combat, diplomacy, whereas many of the quests in fallout had many more options.

Still, I just don't like dialogue being reduced to vanilla.

Aye. I'm worried about the dialogue. So far all I've read is "Your hat is gay." Or something like that, anyway.

Has there been any other dialogue let out?

Ah. Well, that's relieving. I was worried about the dialogue being bad, but...

Does Mr. Handy really say "git"?

Yes, and apparently for just walking past it.
I wonder what it will say when you actually ask it something.

Aside from the silliness of it all.. why would an American made robot for American households even know British insults?

They use "git" in Westerns here. Maybe he's the sheriff's Mr. Handy?

Nope, from the previews I understand you encounter this particular model in the Vault, or it could be that this is now a standard feature on every Mr Handy.

Mr Handy, he's SO handy!

-Walks the dog
-Cleans the house
-Does the dishes
-Insults you behind your back.

Yes but in that context, "git" is like "get", a term for "get out". As in, "You ornery varmint! Git before I fill you full o' lead!"
In the context of "You git!" it's purely British.

Edit: I suppose it might be because this Mr. Handy is supposed to have a British butler type accent.
Which would be stupid in itself since robots in Fallout are supposed to have 50's science! style electronic... bip... voice.. click.. like that.. beep.

A better question would perhaps be why a ticket collecting robot is decked out as Robocop's ED 209. They must have had an awful lot of trouble collecting those tickets back then :)

Todd probably needed a "cockney" moment in the game, like Loxley in FO1...

Implementing random features sloppily again while mutilating the game setting to the maximum? Yep.
