Fallout 3 Compendium - Release 12 - Beta v0.6.0.2

Speaking of which, Here is a preliminary for the Laser Rifle Scope.

Dubby wanted it to be techy so I have a small camera mounted to a CRT tv. I have the electronics exposed to give it an experimental feel

And this is how the scope compares to the rest of the rifle.

I'm devising a mounting system to hold it to the gun.

Scope looks nice but why u get on tech weapon blue screen of death :D
Maybe jamming issue i would get a heart attack seeing it pop out shooting from laser :D

Can any testers confirm if the Experience gain is tweaked somewhat more?

I am anxious to try this mod out again in combination with enclave commander and MMM3, but if the Experience curve is as slow as it was before, I'd rather adjust that manually

chipk, its prety nice, but looking at the picture of the scope with the rifle, i think the rifle needs a slightly longer "barrel" aka middle part

because the way it is now, it is optically directed rather backwards then forwards, it just ends very "blunt", because all the 3 parts (barrel, scope, and the thingy under the barrel) are almost at the same level, so the relation of overall height of the weapon gets too close to its overall length through the scope. as result, the weapon is not "aspiring" forwards, which is imo important for a ranged weapon like lazer rifle

also, is it possible to add this scope as a part of that weapon modification kit? so you can actually UPGRADE your normal lazer rifle with this?

talking about this, what about an addable lazer scope which can be mounted to the under-barrel part of the rifle?
because the scope-screen might be good for targeting somethign distant, but in close combat having a simple lazer dot showing you where the hell you are shooting in a faster way is nice

dubby, what is your job then? some kinda designer?

the BSOD error on the scope is just a joke  but also to show which part of the scope is the display. :P

For Jay the Gay's question. This is more of a comparison than anything. camera size and everything will be worked out and it still needs to be mounted. It is also meant to be bulky. Cameras at that time were extremely bulky and adding electronics to it will increase bulk. To this day you will see gun cams are about 1/3 to 1/2 the size of the weapon.

As far as your question about making it upgradable, you will have to ask dubby. I would like the upgradability feature as well. I would also like to know how to parent individual components to existing models. This is especially important for attachments.

If geometry permits, it should be doable.

what i meant is not the size of the scope itself, but the bulkyness of the rifle when the scope is mounted.
my point is - by extending the barrel of the rifle itself you can mount a bulky scope like this, but without making the Whole weapon look bulky. there is a difference between oldschool-fatness of the parts and an unlucky compilation of those. that level of overall bulkyness doesnt fit a lazer rifle.. lazer rifle is something..powerful, but still fine. like sniper rifle, in some way.
the way it looks now with the scope and the barrel almost at the same line it is more of a "lazer shotgun". i cant imagine that thing shooting any far.
as you said, 1/2 or 1/3 of the weapon size are fine. but the scope ends at like 95% of the length.. i mean, show that to a non-fallouter, and he will ask "aint the barrel missing?"

also, the monitor needs some metal shielding. would be pretty unpractical to run around with a completelly unprotected tube

no offence man, criticism is what brings designers forwards :P

Here's a few examples of modern day camera scopes. They are really bulky and take up about 2\3 the length of the rifle it self. I worked with modifying the camera size. Personally I like the large bulky camera compared to the more compact one I just made.

The CRT Screen will have a metal trim after textures are applied.

I also contacted the gurus at niftools.org about parenting weapon attachments without creating a whole new model. Lets see if anyone has an answer.

i like the more bulky scope too.. man, just try the bulky one with an extended barrel :P

ps-wtf are those scopes for in reality? O.o

I have been reporting bug with funked up textures on weapons.

So... I had some free time for testing and it looks like enabling "HDR" in options is causing most of the flickering. I'll test it some more though and let you know.

I have an ATI video card, btw.

Cheers :)
did you activae autoinvalidation? I had the same problem, auto invalidation fixed it.

The CRT is a little too plain... Without textures, it looks a bit like a magical screen cone instead of a monitor. My advice is to shorten the length of the monitor and add some loose wires connecting it to the body of the scope

Like this, except not in MSpaint ;)

Here's what an old CRT looks like. They are long. Only the modern CRTs are shorter. Though I should make it skinny at the back end.

Right, looking at it again, making it flask-shaped would work better. I also agree that it should be bulky, but if it's going to be as big as the barrel of the gun it might need some more detail to make it 'pop'.

bInvalidateOlderFiles=1 here, if you're asking about that ;)

So yes and it did not fixed my problems and i had to tune video card options.
