This radio signal mechanic sure is overused by now.

It reuses the tired RPG cliche that the world is waiting for the player to come along.
Wouldn't it be nice if the world was so dynamic that if the player wouldn't react that some other adventurer would instead respond?
You know what the fun part is, that exactly such kind of things was tried in the past before visuals took over the whole development. The only thing that prevented developers from making it possible was the power of the machines. Now as the computers could more or less easily handle dynamic dialogues, databases for each NPC and in relation with reputation (all dynamic of course) they go for what? Almost only for graphic, visuals. I mean imagine for a moment they would go to the limit of the engine in using it for the NPC AI and dialogues, a quad core only responsible for a realistic "conversation". I mean if a chat bot in a forum can almost trick you in it would it not be possible to get something like that for a RPG ? Of course it would not be all fully voiced then.

Great idea of course, but then again, who would spend time and money researching this stuff, when it's cheaper and easier to just add a few extra colours and pixels here and there, and *ka-ching!* profit? Then again, once the upper limit of the GFX quality it reached, the games could go in this direction. Hopefully, anyway.

And they could be fully voiced, since a lot of voice-simulation engines work pretty well already. For example, look at the Vocaloid.

I know what you mean and its true. The thing is just. It will not work anymore at some point. You can push one area just so much and the visuals at the moment reached a level that is pretty high for now. Does not mean they can not improve it further but its doubtfull that one will see a major jump forward. So they should really try to focus on other parts as well in general and not just visuals cause they are for the most part already adanced enough to make any idea possible.

^ Well, I guess we'll have to leave it to indie developers and some obscure gaming companies, and maybe someone will come up with something. I mean, the most exciting games recently were not from any major developers.
