Fallout 3 reviews round-up #59

On The Horns of Moral Dilemma

On The Horns of Moral Dilemma

@Eyenixion

Credit? In this economy? My sub prime imagery appears to be a dollar short!

It would be presumptuous to imply GG-Navie was LARPing a Rand-ian heroine.

And,
we might side step any impending moralizing dilemma,
if we allow her " ... very Ann Rand ..." to be a fashion statement,

worthy of any proud, standing tall, sophomore,

and not the subliminal preamble to an objectivist manifesto.

You know, I think I'd be surprised if she even knew what Objectivism was. She has most likely seen only the words of the developers themselves and their influences, and has taken the "Ayn Rand" element as some sort of broadly applicable label to the specific aesthetic of a video game - of all things.

She will most likely not become another idealistic yet unknowing believer of Objectivism (hopefully).

Girls should not play games. :(
Oh come now, don't let a few bad apples skew your vision, there are plenty of male idiots as well. I've met my fair share of reasonable and good female gamers, it's just that female gamers are rare and G4 in particular does the most damage to their image.

Not particularly surprising that she'd namedrop Rand and Bioshock without realizing there's no connection. With reviews more and more assuming the function of sales pitches, it only makes sense for reviewers to mention the most popular aspects, and see connections with other contemporary games where there are none. Still sad, still ignorant.

Very Ayn Rand?

What exactly was objectivist about Fallout 3? Something tells me this person doesn't know who the hell Ayn Rand was, or what her writing were all about. She must think Ayn Rand has something to do with architecture, from reading reviews of Bioshock that mentioned the author...
I've come to this conclusion that, although her books were once thought to be as influential as the bible, Rand's books are no longer read. I read Atlas Shrugged and while I'm pretty liberal, I still enjoyed the book, but let me tell you, nothing about Fallout 3 is Randian. Even BioShock is pushing it.

A link on the GameGirl site lead me to the User Reviews of gamepro (http://www.gamepro.com/games/xbox360/133122/fallout-3/reviews/), so I am posting it here. On of the pros in the User Reviews is "Fantastic Multiplayer".

...Be sure to pay attention to the story when going through the main quest, and you won't be disappointed. ....
Did she pay attention and still missed the plot hole that kills the story???

Well I read several times of how the plot and main quest was incredible well written so I either take it that people's standards or IQs have severally lowered or that they have hot air instead of a brain in their skulls.

Do some of you sometimes feel like you are wandering in some kind of Twilight Zone episode, I do.

I'm gonna work Ayn Rand into my every day conversations.

Dude.....that is so Ayn Rand.

That guy just cut me off. That's very Ayn Rand of him.

Nice haircut bro. You're looking more Ayn Rand than Bioshock.

This game incoorperates some of the best debates, the best books, the best movies ever witnessed. It's very Ayn Rand, even moreso than Bioshock
Two of the dumbest sentences I've seen in a little while.

I'd be interested to see her opinion on what the best books, debates, and movies of all time are though.

Dude, I've read a bit of Atlas Shrugged and that book is an insult to the English language. It's no shame to humanity that no one really reads it any more.

And yes it is annoying when people with no clue try to bring in intellectual shit after wiki'ing to "check their facts". But whatevz, if she wants to discredit her own review so be it.

They won't have to read it when the movie comes out.....starring Angelina Jolie.

She obliviously has no idea what she's writing about. I was left with the distinct impression that Fallout 3 expresses a Kafkaesque quality in a post-modern, Spielberg-Kurbrickian dichotomy, ultimately culminating in the generation of a neo-post-post-modern form of eye/ear edu-tainment.

That has a very Art Deco look with an Ayn Rand flair!

It's like the Lincoln-Douglas debates all over again! Except this time with some Ayn Rand thrown in to the mix!

Did I mention how much of an intellectual I am?

As the ending scene rolled, I felt like giving a standing ovation, as I have never played a game as amazing as this.
This is why nobody cares what women think. :P

"Even though we are sitting down, we are giving you a *standing ovation*"

LOL
