Bethesda has put out some "new" screenshots for Fallout 3, and as per usual "new" is relative as you might well have seen this before in the magazine circulation.

It's just amazing how one I look at these screenshots, I just see a retextured Oblivion.

that's becuase it's what you've already decided to see. it doesn't look as much as Oblivion as say Gears of War with different gameplay for example.

I agree, npc faces look good. I'm glad we're not getting the hilarious puppet-like faces from Oblivion.

Rivet City looks cool.

I do hate the wet look concrete and rock textures get in combination with bloom lighting. You can see it best in the screenshot with the brahmin, but its present in others as well. "Why so serious" reminds me of an outdoor ayelid ruin.

I can't understand why they made those car explodable, they actually look pretty nice. Who would want to destroy a nice looking car?

Now we only need some modding tools to remove the nuclear weapons inside of them and "edit" their appearance a bit, so they would look more like the original Fallout cars.

It does look like a lower res Gears of War - and in some screenshots seems to have the same problem in my opinion

- too much clutter - they try ever so hard to display destruction and detail - everything has high contrast especially details on textures ... like an childish drawing .. they dont know where to stop sometimes and the lack of shadows or anti-aliasing doesnt help.

- other minuses for me include the white glowy sky - present in most screenshots - something like this : http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/album_page.php?pic_id=3268 would have been better.

- rivet city and interiors look a lot better then outdoor shots - most interiors look better -

- and yeah the faces - combined with the animation in recent videos are just awfull and given that they didnt fix anything are even more upsetting.

- maybe you can lick the wet stones for health

Face looks good, and I really didn't see the oblivion-lookalike at all. And I really hate oblivion, but I saw no similarity, apart from the "Why so serious?" picture, the head statue is similar to the ayelid ruins.

These don't look bad in my opinion ( despite some textures being pretty low res ) but I wouldn't say that they look good...at all. Why on earth did they decide to go with their outdated engine once again is beyond my understanding. Well no, I mean I understand why but it's just plain dumb.

It still looks like shit, and I'm not just saying that. The engine was outdated when Oblivion came out, and it has not gotten any better. Ok, so the faces have gotten slightly better, but compare this crap to a game like UT 3 wich came out allmost a year ago (and wasn't really a graphical brake-through), even Half Life 2 still looks better than this.
And what's with the repeating houses? And how can they not be able to use even something that remotely looks like the arcitecture of the old games?

The game sucks as a Fallout game and it's not good as a stand alone game either.

I really dislike the graphics. The total lack of object shadows makes all the stuff look like it's floating somewhere above the surface. No shadows in a 3D-game is so early 90s. I also hate the "everything looks somewhat shiny without any apparent reason" look.

+what Kahgan said. It looks considerably worse than Half-Life 2, a game released four years ago.

God... no shadows, no anti-aliasing, and look that screen... the Vault Dweller is going to take a dump???????

Sorry for my english :P

I don't care (too much) if the graphics are crappy, as long as they reflect the Fallout atmosphere. And that is what I'm really missing when looking at these screens.

The car wrecks look quite OK, but when I see greyish and pale city ruins it really lacks ambiance.

Well, it is definitely brown.

Pretty sure that is not possible to do, but all of those ruins might have been interesting to climb on top of and jump around as an alternate way of navigation. Could make some decent zombie panic/infection maps based on it.

The faces look good, but then do we know what they will actually look like in game, or if these are photo shopped.

The difference between in game shots of the sheriff and the PR one was huge.
