Fallout 3 screenshots

I can't believe some of you guys are actually falling for how good the face looks.

Oh my god Brother None, I think you are missing the point here. He has a hat AND a beard!

This is going to be the best game since "Hat and Beard Tycoon."

It looks ok enough, but I certainly hope there will be some texture mods in the future.
I'm also worried about the performance, even with a bit outdated graphics like these Bethesda is capable of "optimizing" their games to the level that even current high-end PC's won't run them smoothly.

Good, at least we know there is one guy in the whole game, who looks falloutish :]

How many people do you imagine have computers high-end enough to reveal screenshots of such fidelity as the official PR image even if that is actually taken directly from the game (which, honestly, it isn't)? Even if what you say is true and it's not photoshopped but just super-end PC, that's not relevant because almost no one has a gaming rig of that magnitude - judging by Oblivion's super-shitty optimization.

It is obvious that:

A) Bethesda doesn't have skilled programmers that feel comfortable working with Gamebryo. Fallout 3's Gamebryo was badly hacked for the needs of the game thus making it very slow. Other Gamebryo games work fine AFAIK.

B) Games don't exactly come with Hollywood blockbuster effects. That's not too hard to figure out because there aren't many people who can afford themselves a personal rendering workstation. By accepting that fact, I stopped worrying about whether there are shadows on the ground or not.
Graphic isn't the real problem here but graphical design.

Just googled Gamebryo, I didn't realise there were decent games using it. Yet Oblivion crashes when you alt tab half the time.

well, pretty much every PC game I have from CIV 4 to Pirates! to both FOs to Arcanum to several other games more often not go to a black screen when you alt tab....

That may just be the 8 year old PC though...

They actually look good... but as BN said, they are doctored.
There isn't much proof behind his claims.

And call me crazy, but the newer Simms looks better.
