From Bethesda's Blog:
On June 5th — three months ago today — fans may recall seeing the above image on our website - that is, when our servers weren’t crashing in anticipation of the teaser trailer.

Well, everyone’s seen the above trailer now, or so it seems. Today I got word that the trailer has been viewed more than 2 million times off our website (over 1.8 million downloads) and through Xbox Live (over 250K downloads). That doesn’t include YouTube views or downloads off of all the other sites that hosted the trailer.

To put it in context, in the first five months that we hosted the Oblivion teaser trailer, 800,000 views took place. So the Fallout 3 trailer has been viewed more than twice as many times in about half the time. Impressive…most impressive.
Spotted on Fallout 3: A Post Nuclear Blog.

Ah yes. Und vot is ze most impressiv, Meinherr, is zat ze teazer zas not show ze game vot it is going to be... Only pretty pictures...

:P

Shows the expectations, I guess... Not that it matters. Now let's think how to sell those 2 mil copies...

What do we conclude, people, strength of the franchise or strength of the game? Signs that Fallout was strong or that Fallout 3 will be strong? Or both?! Place your bets!

one thing i've learned .. pr multiplies everything by 8 that after not starting from 0 ....

in any case ... even if the figures are half correct it just means .. a lot of souls will be dissapointed

Life is going to really suck when everybody I know is playing Fallout 3 and raving about how bad ass it is.

When they have never even heard of Fallout 1 or 2, have ever even played a Turn-Based game, OR have ever actually used their brain in a video game.

BLAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope this game flops hard I don't know if I could handle sequel after sequel of shitty Fallout games coming out, while Bethesda cashes in on someone ELSES original idea.

Strength of the franchise. The teaser trailer said absolutely nothing about the game, so it can't be the strength of the game.

Signs that Fallout was strong, and that Oblivion was a best-seller.

This kind of thing makes me think that Bethsoft will feel more validated (that is, if they had any niggling doubts about their plans for reshaping the franchise) in doing what they are doing with Fallout 3. At this rate, with these kind of stats to go on, Howard and Co. will expect free reign to belt out whatever they think will convert those hits into sales. Lame.

Eh, maybe they will, maybe they won't, it's a little early to be definitive, but the interest is there, which from a marketing perspective is great.

Now if they next trailer had *less* hits, they'd have reason to be worried.

This whole thing troubles me. I fear for the reaction the public will have, most importantly, those who did play the first games.

I kept hitting F5 non stop for days, I was expecting to see a Fallout game at some point... but never did.

I demand a refund, I want my hits back!

On the other hand, does that not mean there are two times as many Fallout fans expectine the game than were Oblivion fans expecting Oblivion?

Should friggin' put things in perspective, IMO.

A

good point, but does it have any bearing on this case? Trying to make sense of PR is nigh impossible. Talking to people who are insulated to anything contrary to their reality is a wacky exercise. They'll spin this to whatever they wish @ the time. It's already well known that this game is not the Fallout of the first games and never will be. They appear to be doing what Interplay did when it was theirs. The opportunities to counter this game are now in the hands of other companies...

Lest we forget, there are fans of the franchise that lurk in the dark corners of the Earth, ones who actively read these forums but are too afraid to state their opinion, or simply have nothing to say. When the time comes, they will all assemble as one, and suddenly you've got millions of people that are dissapointed.

Sounds kinda like the Bethesda Fallout 3 fans who are hiding in the shadows, reading all these but never write a response, and are waiting for the day that Fallout 3 will be released so that they can come out into the light and give it all the cropped up praise they are holding down.

Again it has been made clear that Internet and Forums do not speak for the majority who are actually quite silent.

 The funniest thing I've read in a long time.

That was most certainly rhetorical...I think. :P

Don't you have to pay to load the teaser on Xbox live?

No, XBOX Live Silver is free and let's you download demos, trailers, etc. I guess the gold service you pay for basically just allows you to play online with others.
