Fallout 3: Van Buren (Spoilers!)

UPDATE #3

Current team lineup:
Kamoho (writer), Vaarna_Aarne (writer), hexer (everything else)

Another big week is behind me! I started sifting through my 70+ GB of Fallout related stuff to see what will be used and what won't. Years of collecting FO stuff finally started to pay off.

Say hello to Mr. and Mrs. Prisoner. They make a cute couple.

Jaesun generously gave us one of his dark ambient songs. The song is very creepy and will be used in 3 locations! Thank you, bro!

Tibbets' maps have been remade in the light of the new info I found from developers' forum posts.
Basic layout for Hoover Dam (15 maps), Burham Springs (4 maps), and Ouroboros (6 maps) has been finished. At the moment I'm making Boulder Dome (4 maps so far). After that I'm moving on to Dogtown which will have approximately 30 maps (wtf BIS)

I also opened some alternative accounts for those who want to follow updates through those channels.

Lastly, here's the main menu screenshot! I'm still waiting for the artist to allow us to use his image - hopefully he'll allow it.

Although the game doesn't include the Enclave the image is here because:

- It looks similar to Fallout 2 and creates a connection to the previous game(s) which featured an armored guy in the main menu. This is being made in FO2 engine after all.
- It foreshadows the disease-ridden plot of Van Buren. Nothing is safe, not even a soldier in an Advanced Power Armor.
- It looks wicked and fallouty.

Looks promising! Good luck with your project Hexer. Put all the community resources in good use, there weren't that much total conversions which used efficiently all the stuff produced over the years. Mutants Rising is keeping an eye on your project ;)

I managed to finish basic layout for Boulder Dome tonight. 13 maps total!

Thank you Mutants Rising Team! :D

Santa is extremely generous to me lately: Wasteland 2, Torment: Tides of Numenera, Pillars of Destiny, Mutants Rising, Age of Decadence and now FO3: Van Buren. I was really that good this year for this?

Things are looking great! Keep up the great work!

Sorry for the somewhat off-topic (i mean somewhat because i'll talk about van buren ;) ) but i'm curious about the original van buren: does anyone tried to mess with it to fix some of its bugs? i never saw anything on the internet about this and i'm curious to know if any modder tried his luck with it.

Looks awesome so far. Keep up the good work, Hexen! ;)
Be sure to dig into previous attempt to make Van Buren as F2 mod - Fallhope, although the project has died a while ago, there are still useful recources, Fallhope team had done some maps afaik and prisoner animation (you can find what was released in Drobovik's Fallout Database), it may also be quite interesting to look on the different interpretation of the same locations.
Besides, you may want to keep in contact with some original Van Buren designers - Josh Sawyer and Chris Avelone, they both have twitter accounts, so you can ask them as many annoying questions as you'd like.
Moreover, there were supposed to be changes in SPECIAL and role-playing system, would be nice to see if you'll implement them, would you also make aimed shot in arms/legs not something completely useless and rebalance some perks/traits? Gifted was way overpowered, for example.

I already sent messages to both Sawyer and Avellone but so far nothing. I think they thought I wasn't serious or something.
Are you volunteering for tweaking SPECIAL?

We'll see what can be done with that. I remember people on BIS forums back in the day weren't exactly enthusiastic regarding his changes.

Merry Christmas to those who celebrate! The basic layout for all the maps is done! This is a minor but very important milestone for the project.

167 map files in total, and when we include all the map elevations the number will probably go over 200. Also, there are additional 62 map files in that XP folder which are finished and will be in an expansion pack one day.

I find it very funny how BIS developers said that FO3 would be smaller than FO2.

Anyway, I have to go now. Updates might become less frequent. You might gossip about how I run away to a distant tropical island or even died while trying to squeeze ARGOS' sprite into FO2 engine. But I will be in a special (dark & comfy) place where good maps and even better art are made!

Holy shit that's a lot of map files...

Hey before you split, could you send me all your files for the Vipers? I may end up trying to find a way to get them into FIXT. Thanks!

You mean the critter stats and the map? Their map and members are not the same as it was intended for FO1. We're much better building them from scratch for FO1.

Not a "real" update yet but we're hard at work - me with Boulder Dome's maps and our writers with the main plot and intro text.
