Fallout: Bakersfield (Fallout in DOOM engine)

I certainly thought this meant D00M 2 engine, at first. I have seen screenshots of this project before.

IMO, an obscene waste of potential. (Though still very impressive.)

...And when it released some people thought it was a leaked Bethesda prototype Fallout 3 ~ and rejoiced; until they realized that it was not.

(This mod is why I bought D00M3.)

So did that ever come out or was it abandoned?

IGN seems to disagree:

Disagree with the the [Ground Zero] mod being abandoned after the modder was hired?

Disagree that it's an obscene waste of potential? Well for all that work they could have included the proper series' gameplay, but instead they chose mimic FO3's franken-shooter gameplay.

This actually looks like Fallout 3D. I love it.
That is not something I could ever love....with the exception that most people assume that 3D means First Person, which it does not. I'd only expect a modern Fallout game to be done in 3D, but I would never accept one done primarily in first person. It's quite wrong for the series (though great for a spin off ~since obviously it cannot have the series gameplay).

*Basically Wasteland 2 is the best Fallout game since Fallout 2.

Yeah, I'm simple, I do not master the jargon of the coders, I'm thinking Wolfenstein 3D.

No, really, I am. I'm thinking that this looks exactly what I'd expect Fallout to look like if I were looking through the eyes of my li'l Vault 13 or Chosen One PC instead of having an isometric POV. Stylistically speaking, this is pretty f'ing spot on.

Totally agree on the Troika teaser. That video still gives me chills. They even got the music (Brian Eno) right. O, look what I put on YouTube 18 years ago ...

I remember when Leonard Boyarsky said that Troika wouldn't have shut down if they had an IP to work on, and that IP was Fallout
I still ask myself what would’ve happened if Troika had bought the franchise, they probably will turn it first person shouter because tim wanted Arcanum as fps, and what could’ve become of apocalypse road, aka the fallout 3 prototype

I honestly believe that trailer kickstarted my love for Dune. I have quite literally discovered the book because someone mentioned that it's music from the film, and I was intrigued enough by the description to hunt the books down and read them.

Anyhow, I am amazed how good that demo looks even today.

Bakersfield looks very nice too. Not sure if it'll interest me enough to play through it, but those animations are amazing and I love how faithful the scenery is.

I dislike Dune books though. The pacing is @ss, long, watery monologues, little to nothing happens most of the time. I stopped reading middle of Emperor of Dune.

But I do enjoy a good Dune game time to time. Not the Villevelle-something Dune, but old one.
