Fallout community; not doing enough?

There is but if you added up the market for FO3 (done traditional), the market for UFO, JA3 and Silent Storm it probably wouldn't come anywhere close to the market for a console game.

'a console game' is not a market, T-Bolt. It's merely a specification of a platform. Within consoles there are many submarkets, just like there isn't just 'a PC game'-market.

I am sure that the new gamers generation (the ones who play their first games in the last few years) are totally addicted to kick ass graphics and the andrenaline they get from playing.
They would start crying if forced to look at the graphics of fallout or to read lots of dialogue since they won't have an arrow guiding them to the next target.

We are old in the sense of having 'old' 'values' - atmosphere over graphics, interesting text over _permanent_ action.
T' would be a waste to send the graphics to hell, but the 1337 dudes need to be taugth, that besides graphics and sugar rush there is also atmosphere to enjoy.

Russian developer was trying to change the gameplay from turnbased to realtime+smartpause a year ago.
Because of massive fan protests they had to return to turnbased mode.
Annoyed by such behavior the franchise owner strategy first supports the old fans and demands a turnbased JA3D.


It is possible to get an influence on such decisions - but only if the developer/franchise owner is ready to talk to the fans.
Here Bethesda has a behavior I don't understand.
Instead of contacts Beth prefers blacklisting and is cooking a Fallout 3 without any fan input.
What does this mean?
- 1) WE Bethesda are the owners of the only true universal wisdom. WE don't need any advice from old fans and WE don't want any advice from them. WE have the franchise - WE make the decisions - WE make Fallout 3 - not you.
OUR secrets are not yours to learn.

- 2) We don't develope the game for some guys which are living in the nineties - take it or not (and we know you will buy Fallout 3 - at least to complain about our work). By the way - have a look at our more likely next gen friends from the xbox faction.

- 3) We'll get a fanbase of our own when game is released. Here we can select the guys by our censorship - and therefore there will be not too much criticism.

- 4) We have no idea. We will sell the game pushed by hype - that's all we can do because of our fear that old fans will never accept our changes in many parts of the gameplay. To avoid any trouble before release which could result in bad sales we don't give any information.

- 5) These fools are thinking we're going to make a sequel to FO2 - muhahahaha. They don't have realized that Fallout is an egoshooter. Let's ignore them - they are not our target group but they don't care about it.

Difference being one franchise owner wants to continue marketing their IP to the original target audience. While the other has bought the use of someone else's IP and now wants to market it to their existing fanbase.

the former devs from GFI /MISTLand decided to publish their low quality work under the name JAZZ - Hired Guns,
so now there are 2 sequels of JA2 in developement.

Exactly,they shut out one site that were their biggest fans due to some Star wars release,didn't they?

So...what chance would a bunch of "frantic/fanatic Fallout fans" have to say their mind?

I'd happily go back inte the Bethesda forums (if my old nick still works) and tell them what I think,if I thought that any of them would actually listen.(I mean BIS at least replied with their views -if they ever listened or not I don't know,but they did reply- and thereby maybe,just maybe,we at least put a little seed in their mind....just like I hope I put a seed into those FO fans that were more fanatic than me when I took Feargus/BIS in defence)
With Bethesda it's more along the lines of "Hey,be thankful we said anything at all you ungrateful bastard,you are now banned."
