really nice read... writing in a forum (!)

A long time ago, when my mom was still busy with her court case, she had the delusion that a lot of money would come out of this.
Being a bit ignorant at the moment (I really thought it would see it if she would loose touch with reality), I gladly followed as a lot of money meant no more financial problems ever!

When I heard that Van Buren was cancelled it was my hope to use whatever compensation we would get to rehire all the people of Van Buren, buy up the material (and probably licence) and get them to finish, I really wanted it so much.

Of course reality finally came along and an absurd fantasy bubble was finally popped after which I realised that we had only lost money and our old house on this, and that we would probably never get anything back let alone that I could actually realise my hope of restoring Van Buren. :(
what court case?

YOU sold YOUR (fuck this spelling thing.. ) house to buy van buren stuff? is that what you said?

i honestly dont understand this story ._. please explain

Me thinks there is a communication error here.

My mom's court case was against a group of lawyers who had betrayed her trust in an earlier case by going to the opposing party with confidental information.

As a result my mom started against the initial lawyer who had 'betrayed' her from which it went moved up in the echelon of lawyers as my discovered that the Dutch law system is very dedicated at protecting its lawyers and judges.

Her case originally started in the capital of the province and from there it went to the highest judicial power in the Netherlands in order for my mom to get her right.

In the meantime bailiffs hired by said lawyers constantly appeared for our door for various reasons, in one case my mom wanted to speak with a lawyer that was appointed to her by court.
The man refused to speak with her and things must have gotten out of control as we had to pay a large sum of money as compensation.

Lots more of this type of things happened and we quickly started to run out of money, what my departed father had left us and the money my mom had from her parents and what she had earned during the time she ran a store.

When suddenly her income had stopped because of rather unclear reasons we had to make large debts in order to buy food.
The mortgage, heating, electricity and water were never paid after this.

During all of this my mom told me that we were to get a large sum of money when High Council (big judge thing here in the Netherlands) finally acknowledged that my mom was righ, a judge had stated this in an earlier session in court.
We simply never got any money from it as the lawyers the case was against continued.

Of course I should have realised that the sums she mentioned became absurdly high, but because of all the bad things that had happened I so much wanted her to be right, deluding myself that this didn't make sense.

Anyway, in the end we did not have heating anymore during the winter of 2003/2004 as we had almost nothing to pay with.

I soon after left home and later heard that my mom had been taken to a mental hospital.
Our house was sold to pay for all the bills that had been made.

What I tried to make clear earlier is, when I had the idea we were going to get loads of money out of this case, I wanted to use some to actually have Van Buren finished as it should have been.

I should have known that that was simply a stupid dream.

I have made nothing up of what I just wrote down but perhaps I have missed a few details here and there.

Ay Dutch Ghost,
Worst comes to worst, you can always submit your story to a number of famous thriller authors and they can try and turn it into a novel and make millions, or write your own memoir of the affair... might be a good critique of the system. Might end with some compensation. (note: not calling you a liar, just saying it's an interseting weaving of detail).

To keep even an inkling of relevance to topic...

ZOMG woman fallout fan/developer?! Post pics of her or STFU!!!!

Hello SimpleMinded,

Sorry for going so off topic like this.
I sometimes really had the feeling I was part of a very weird soap opera, and have already discussed it other people that this would make good material for a book.

I discovered Van Buren during this period and it quickly became one of the few good things I had to look forwards too, it really felt like a personal blow when I heard that it was cancelled as it was the first thing I learned after having lost my internet for two weeks.
Okay stupid but I hope people understand my point of view.

Regarding Mrs Shellman, where is it mentioned that she made the text for Maxson and his forces while they were at Mariposa?

Ehem....Mrs Anderson didn't do tge Maxson text. She is just credited in it as the scientist that held up the most. Developer in-joke, very Fallout indeed.

Sad story by the way, sometimes you have to know when to call it quits. I have the same kind of problem, but it's the other way around, doesn't matter anyway.

Are there any chances for a T-Ray interview?

I wish, T-Ray just wandered into the sunset, appropriately enough.

Last I heard he was working on Duke Nukem Forever, but that's just the game dev equivalent of "he died".

Why and what questions did she decide to drop?

The questions she dropped:

> 7. What specifically inspired Fallout for you? What were the biggest
> influences?

> 8. Pop Culture played a big role in Fallout, what pop culture influences
> you?

> 13. Who would you bring with you in a future Fallout team and why?

> 15. Where do you see computer RPGs going?

Why? It's a standard 20-question form. Not every question is useful for anyone, some are pretty programmer or designer-specific, some they just don't have a useful answer for. Most people opted to give such questions short one-line answers, Sharon opted not to answer them.

i can understand it

injustice is one of the worst things existing ... there is nothing that makes me more angry than injustice

probably the feeling of great injustice also made your mother become insane.. and i still don't understand why you didn't win the court case

Hello Kukident,

Well it is pretty much the same here but when injustice happens involving a larger party, in this case a group of lawyers, it is often very hard to fight against it as they are part of the establishment, even in a democracy.

Sometimes I think that increasing corruption and injustice is being tolerated in our society in order to keep the society running.
Should something be seriously done against it people might see a side of themselves they probably don't like and perhaps discover that some parts of our society have no right to exist.

>probably the feeling of great injustice also made your mother become insane..

She cleared up a little and started to live on her own again before she started to drag again into this world, and this time there would be no recuperation.

And yes, I do blame the Dutch justice system for what has happened to her.
I can not rule out that some accusations have been made out of paranoia as she was pretty paranoid after several years, but almost everyone would be like that if you see everything you have built up in forty years collapse or be taken away from you, and people constantly accusing that it is all your own fault.

But there have been mistakes and things have been done that should not happen in a country that call itself a modern democracy.

>and i still don't understand why you didn't win the court case

Well according to my mom some years ago a judge did acknowledge that she was right and judged in her favour, of course the opposing part went to 'higher court' ( I can't remember the right word for it) with it who of course favoured the lawyers.

And so it was continued.

I have some pretty nasty death wish images for these people but I don't want to be seen as low as these people are.

Actually, it took me 5 minutes since I read this post to contact him.

I cringe when I see my animations for the 2 headed brahmen, the dog, Mr. Handy, etc., etc. I see faults with the "death screen", tons of problems with the movies and all that fun stuff.

Oh, these things are perfect anyway :)
