Fallout Europe?

Fallout 1 and 2 never felt like they were going for the 1950's era culture. Did I miss something whilst playing?

I think so. It's fairly...obvious I thought, but maybe it's just me.

Sure, it wasn't so obvious made as Fallout 3, but there were plenty of references to the 50s culture. The intro graphics on their own were pretty large.

I always skipped that shit. I'll go check it out.

Didn't you see the junk cars? Or the posters and banners? The terminals and computers? They look very 50s, at least they certainly belong to that time of science fiction.

It was never very subtle. It was always overt and obvious. Part of what made Fallout so strikingly "darkly humorous" was the glaringly obvious contrast of the violent, ugly post-apocalypse with the happy-go-lucky ads on the buildings and in the very game interface itself. The "50s America" themes were everywhere, and while that alone might not make a "Fallout: Europe" out of the question, it would certainly be a violent departure from the rest of the series.

To me, they just looked like broken wasteland stuff. I guess I'll just stop commenting now seeing as I've made myself look like an idiot. :?

is Fallout:Yurop still in development?

on the aspect of game setting:
europe would be attacked by middle east (who would be in coalition with china) and engaged in chemical and nuclear war.
and there would definitely be bows and arrows in da play.
ammo and firearms are not abundant in europe.
there arent many weapon or ammo manufacturers.

english is primary foreign language taught in Slovenia and most used.
95% of young people (30 years or less) understand and use english language.

Sadly that project has been cancelled a long time ago as the team fell apart.
I still speak to the head designer from time to time and he is considering relaunching it as an original IP one day, either a source book or a game.

I have been playing around myself with the idea of making a Fallout Yurop idea that takes place in Berlin and would like to ask the head designer if I can use some of his factions in it.
Would either be a source book or a mod.

They've still got quite a lot of material in America, but unless the game series dies out they may eventually move outward. The most likely movement would be towards Canada or Mexico. More likely Canada because it got Annexed By America so they could keep some America flavor in it.

Another game in mojave wasteland will be too much. They clearly need to change the settings, some radical changes, not the DC from FO3 once again or some similar place. Russia, Siberia would be great wouldn't it. I mean a post-war world in a cold place, where's lots of snow and radioactive bears haha. And instead of nuka cola, you gonna find some vodka.

Same for me, before I started thinking about it. I mean, I was still quite young when I was playing Fallout 1 for the first time. This stuff just didn't mattered to me a lot.

Fallout 3 was doing it too much, though. Suddenly the clothes and the hair of people was so 50s, it wasn't like that in Fo1/2 and it's what makes it look so heavy 50s now, imo.

For me, Fallout taking place in Europe would be different and maybe kind of neat, but wouldn't necessarily fit the overall theme of the game. I feel like Fallout and 50's America kind of go hand in hand. It is the Retro styling that really makes Fallout what it is. So, I don't think they will ever make one taking place in Europe.

England/Ireland/Germany/Russia could work. Not sure about the rest. Even tho i'm Swedish i don't really thing Fallout would fit in the Nordic countries.

Well, yes and no. Some games have already touched on Fallout-ish themes. Hellfire:London used the London subway system interestingly, and STALKER has its moments. I haven't played Afterfall.

It would be hard to create something like that for Scandinavia, I agree. It could be possible, I guess. There was a writer's competition here in Stockholm last year where a publishing company awarded novels written as a Swedish Metro 2033 (for foreigners: we have a metro system as well). There are also many old defense bunkers and fallout shelters even today which could serve as inspiration.

I would hate such an idea
don't get me wrong, i love Europe, myself live in London n spent most of my life in this continent (although most my fellow brits dont think UK is part of the continent lol)

anyway, bcoz we already have plenty Nuclear Post-Apocalyptic games that set in Europe, mentioning Metro 2033/Last Light and Afterfall Isanity

Fallout series is the king of post-apocalyptic genre bcoz it has a unique setting that no other games can compete with within its domain, Fallout universe is so successful in this term, it even set an example for all other post-apo games and movies and comics, it has defined what is the Nuclear Post-Apocalypse. HOWEVER, if Fallout goes out of that domain, adventure beyond its own definition, it will still be hard for Fallout to compete with other post-apo games

Fallout Canada or Fallout China are possible candidates for a DLC, but Fallout Europe is simply not a good idea since it is not even a main theater during the Great War
