Fallout Europe?

NCR Trooper

First time out of the vault
I've been thinking about a Fallout taking place in Europe, problem is I just don't know how to solve the fact that in Europe they don't speak English other than in Great Britain which I personally think is not really Europe. Maybe some colonies moved from England to Germany or Sweden or even Denmark? Anyway I would think it could be awesome to see how some of the rest of the world is doing. Do you think this is possible or do you think it will still be in USA?

if you take in consideration fallout history you will notice that after the world's resources started to run dry ... the trigger to the big war was a conflict between the remaining great powers, USA and China.

I don't remember quite well what happened to Europe but i guess they would be driven into the conflict. i could see Post War Europe as an amass of small and divided city states battling between themselves for the remaining scratches of the civilized world.

However i think English would be the dominant language in this new Europe, it would be needed this knowledge for the surviving groups to communicate with others. Let us say that they would speak their original languade between themselves but would use english when dealing with outsiders (its kind like that today.)

hope it helps.

While it does sound like an interesting concept, there are a few things to take into consideration.

Although paladin_lord mentioned, english is quite dominant. But English in non-english countries are quite often not used between inhabitants. English is more-or-less the global language of business, but if the world were to be engulfed in Nuclear fallout, I would expect if there were any tribes in Europe still alive, they would end up being some-what xenophobic and reluctant to speak English with outsiders.
Thats my main issue, with the supposed dialouge, would it be geniune with the original language or would it have some kind of tag like [German] or [French] infront to indicate a language?

What about radio? Would the music/DJ be in english or in a foreign language?

Other than that, it would seem like a neat idea to set it in Europe for once, there are just some things to take into consideration.

Well, in Danish radios they almost always play foreign music. Usually it's English but I remember two or three songs being French and a couple was Swedish. But I think you're right. In most European countries, it's mandatory to learn English, but I would expect a few of the characters who can't speak English.

I have and sometimes still am trying my hands on a Fallout idea set in Europe, taking inspiration from an earlier attempt at creating a game called Fallout Yurop.

I chose the location of Germany myself, taking inspiration of Germany after World War after it was divided amongst the allies before it slowly became one again including the DDR after 1989 (I think that was the year)

As a result Germany is influenced by both Western powers (United States) and the former Soviet Union as well as its own culture creating what I think is an interesting mixture of societies and viewpoints.

For now I am letting the project rest as I am trying to help out people with other ideas as well as playing with my own ideas for a Fallout Texas campaign.

I think that Holland could be cool. Old Windmills and tulip fields, a lot of Dutch people know english too. The city has very interesting architecture that would be cool in an apocalypse, and you could take boat rides down the canals.

In the Fallout 1 intro, Europe was turned into a commonwealth of bickering nation-states, so it would be interesting. I do not think that they should make a numbered (like FO 4) game out of it so they can try to connect Fallout 3 to the other games and make a final story connection.

Maybe a title like Fallout: Europe would be suitable.

Hi !
First post here. Personally i think fallout main theme is north america and more specifically it's west cost with desert climate. In fallout 3 they change main theme and i don't really like it but that was ok. Adding Europe will change many thing, maybe later but not in next fallout. I hope bethesda will make next fallout close to old fallout's like FNV, when they made it, they can if they want do a game or add on based on Europe, or China, Middle East ( Eu was in war against Middle East states in fallout story ) or whatever they want. But Next Fallout need to be a Fallout that make Old fan's happy, otherway Fallout series will just be history for me and other old fan's.

The desert in Fallout is not due to the setting on the West Coast, though.
It's because it's a nuclear wasteland, a popular vision of the future after a nuclear war especially back in the 50's.
What I mean is, there's not only desert in the West but everywhere.
Fallout 3 didn't change the main theme, they just fucked it up completely. Going overboard with the 50's style and so on.

...and back on topic: I wouldn't like to see Fallout set in Europe for one simple reason - the series have always been about America and putting it somewhere else will not bring the characteristic climate. I'd on the other hand willingly see a post-apo game set in Europe, as long as it doesn't have Fallout in its name. But when it comes to that, Stalker series do the job, even if it's more like a survival horror.

Afterfall tried to pull it off, but it was consumed and devoured by the Marketing zombies and turned in to Dog-shit-brown generic Shooter #672349364.

How about Fallout: Ireland, where the British Army and IRA are still at war? A conflict 1700 years in the making

England/Ireland/Germany/Russia could work. Not sure about the rest. Even tho i'm Swedish i don't really thing Fallout would fit in the Nordic countries.

You people need a reminder how did takeing Fallout to Europe turn out last time?

Believe me when I say it's not, I finished the whole game.

The story is painfully predictable the character dialogue is terribly delivered most of the level design is running down linear corridors, the model animations are pathetic... the only cool features are the "vaults' designs the City you come out to ( you get there at just about the END of the game so HF...) and the Overseer looked like Joseph Piulsudski...

And I don't know if you newcomers know but this is what happened to the great Ambitious Bourgeois project, also known as the Polish Fallout.

Sounds like any console game involving action... PC <3

...post-nuclear Poland? Why the fuck haven't I known about it before? :o
Gotta get my hands on it. Even if the game is crappy, I just have to.

Post
Nuclear
Fucking
Poland

I'm not sleeping tonight, too excited.

Has everyone forgotten that Fallout thrives off the futuristic-esque 1950's American culture? Tbh, I really can't see Fallout anywhere else but in the States. While its entertaining to think 'what if', I'm not sure it'd have the same feel.
