Fallout 1 mod Fallout Fixt - next release will be some time in Jan 2020

I have not yet been able to find out what's causing the Brotherhood of Steel crashes.

I could use help from anyone who's willing, for you to test that area thoroughly to see if you can discover what causes the crash.

Will be making my way to BOS in this week sometime so will pay extra attention (and make saves) if I encounter any crashes/bugs. Will let you know.

Loaded up a backed up old save from when I just entered the BOS base, still the same crashing issue when I try and go back to the ground level. I've also tried dropping everything in the inventory and dismissing the follower.

I'm not sure how the augmentation crash fixed itself. I remember I gave up on it and went back to level 1, got some skill bonuses from watching the training, went back down to level 2 and went a different route (avoiding the doctor) and investigated all the other rooms. Then I had no issues when I thought id give the augmentation 1 last try haha.

There was also another minor crash with Rhombus. When I went into his quarters to have a look around he warned me, then I stole the power armour piece out of the locker and he then called me a thief etc and it crashed back to windows.

Unfortunately I cant progress anywhere due to the BOS elevator ground level crash, it seems I am destined to remain in the BOS forever haha. Ill keep testing to see if it fixes itself but I've pretty much tried everything so far.

I have implemented "check for updates", which in the next full installation release will also be a link in the Start Menu and Fallout Fixt installation folder, but for now it's in the troubleshooting file and in my signature here. It's going to be a pretty lame implementation -- it'll send to a URL that will contain a self-extracting .exe that you will need to download and run, if a patch exists -- but should save some time and get patches out sooner to people.

I am having a similar experience :( I tried rolling back various files, destroying entire player's inventory, using scripts from original game, etc. It's even more annoying because the error log doesn't show anything. Grrr. I'm guessing it's a script or corrupt item but I can't tell yet which it is.

Hello again:
I found a bug with hub caravans repeatable quest with caravan guarding:
Crimson Caravans seems to be broken completely: doesnt matter the location or if I go 3rd or 17th in the month. Everytime I just stop with empty caravan with no crew members and no enemies, after usually 3 steps into exit area I reach the chosen location where there is no one to be found or just the needed guy. I can go back to Hub and receive no money. Still it is a bit of an improvement from last version I have played where there were no enemies so I just continued and in final destination they told me that I left them behind and so they will not work with me anymore.
Far go Traders works better. In every location and on every date I encountered either nothing and end up in final destination where I talked to the guy and went back or met some enemies. Maybe 1-2 times I had the same problem as with CC.

Also suggestion: I dont know if it is possible to do but it would be nice to make those caravans more challenging later in the game and that you would meet enemy everytime. Because when I have power armor and best weapons then 3-5 riders with basic guns and spears really do nothing to me.

Anyway:
played version 6.7.2, used basic fallout 1 without any patch or any special already patched version
full custom version with only little stuff left out, usually those that have warnings that they could cause trouble.
windows 7 home premium 64bit
my saves are adjusted by F1se (special, perks and some stats like carryweight atd) but so far caused no trouble

v6.7.2 Full

I keep reading about people having probs inside the BOS base... Well I would like to just get in. When I hand over the holodisk and the Paladin says he will "open the door" I get a "memory could not be read" crash (posted on the Wikia). So I'm wondering if it's just me, perhaps something weird with my character? I've tried changing screen resolutions, dropping items from my inventory, etc.

I restarted The Glow 3 times trying not do die from radiation poisoning after I left. Don't recall The Glow being so tuff... Also, I have never completed the "Disarm Traps..." side quest in all the times I've played. I don't know how to. I don't know if my traps skill is high enough or if there is something I have always missed. I need to look for spoilers but where? I want to go back for some of the loot left behind when I get better radiation resistance and strength. But I can't get in the BOS base.

So I decided to finish up the Boneyard. I got the holodisk from the Blade leader. I solved the deathclaw problem. I got the gear for the Blades and spoke with Zimmerman. As soon as the battle concluded I got another "memory could not be read" crash.

Fantastic job getting this classic working on Win7. It's been so long since I've played, it's like playing again for the first time. I've forgotten everything I once knew instinctively.

It is not really because of these mods.. Surprisingly, these old games works with no problems on newer OS unlike some new games which has specified functionality on particular OS.
Anyway this BoS crash is pretty tricky, because first time I played it without that fix, it crashed when I wanted to go from top to 1st floor as it supposed to happen. Then I installed the fix and entered with no problem, then I forgot that if I complete that delivery quest from Mike i think (that guy in combat armor who gives you power armor and other stuff if you have the clearance) before I pick up motivator from him I will not be able to get it anymore from him. So I loaded older save before the BoS, gave cabot holodisk again and then it crashed even with fix several times in a row so I tried different save from same position. Apply that fix again etc and it worked again so I would just try something like I did and it might work for you without the need to play from much older save.
Btw if you have problems with the Glow radiation then there is super easy solution. Either kill that drug dealer in hub which has vast amount of all drugs included Red-X and Rad-Away (or buy from him some if you have items to sell-you need to speak with that guy who sells info first though) or go to Boneyard library and there you can steel some antiradiation drugs from lockers etc), then you take one rad-away when you arrive, 2-3 rad-x to gain 100% rad resistance and you are fine.

Thank you all for the bug reports today; I will respond directly soon and add them to the wiki. @RasterOps the patch fixes this. There's a link to it in my signature.

Hi Sduibek,

I've done a ton off playing around and I think I'm getting closer to the BOS unable to leave base crash. I've loaded up an even older save BEFORE I entered the BOS and gave Cabott the item he needed to open the doors. This used to crash before I implemented your fix so there was no problems entering the base. I could then leave the base without any problems at all!

HOWEVER, as mentioned earlier the 'augmentation' operations crashed with this save. So I could get out of the BOS however I couldn't do the operations. Whereas my other save I could do the augmentations but could not leave the BOS.

I have attached the augmentation crash save below. Maybe these are related somehow? perhaps something to do with stat change or time lapse? hopefully this provides some type of lead to help solve this issue :)

As mentioned above, Rad-X solves the trick. It was also like this in the 1.0, no Rad-X = die due to 6819 rad poison.

The trap disarm quest cannot be completed, it is an unfinished part of the game which may be restored by the OP some day. You used to have done something with a non-existing Security holodisk to finish it.

@Mike Thank you for the saves and testing! I have not found a resolution yet, but I will do my best to figure it out. Worst-case scenario you'll have to start a new game, but I don't know if it would happen to a fresh character also

One time I got it to work, by clearing your 55 rads with 2 RadAway, and then resting, and then using all 3 holodisks in your inventory, and then going to Level 4. Unfortunately, I don't remember if I actually used the crashing save for that, so it may have been a false positive by loading the working save by accident. GAH! Now I have moved the working save out so if I do get it working, I'll know for sure.

Apreciate all the hard work on this issue Sduibek. I'll keep testing some more tonight. One time I got the augmentation to work by taking a few mets, maxing out the conversation with Michael and the guy in the training room then running down to level 2 and all the operations worked!

What I might have to do is skip the augmentation and use the save which allows me to exit the BOS to continue. The game is just so damn good I want to keep playing it haha.

Finished up in Boneyard; going to BOS over the weekend. No real issues to speak of with boneyard; love that place! Will report any issues I find in BOS/Glow.

Ok good news guys. After much testing I figured out the fix for the BOS doctor augmentation crash. Its to do with having 2 sets of combat armour. My character was wearing 1 set, whilst I had another set in my inventory. All I had to do was drop one of the sets and the operations worked flawlessly!

Ill keep testing the base exit crash and hopefully find the cause.

Cheers

Awesome, that is good news! Thank you :) Weird cause for a crash, to be sure.

EDIT: Oh hey that reminds me, I'll add you to 'Testing/Testers' in the credits, how do you want to be listed there?

EDIT2: @Mike Okay this should fix the operations issue: https://www.dropbox.com/s/jq1os9iuv3eb1a2/BOSLORRI.int Place it in {Fallout Fixt}\DATA\SCRIPTS

Great thanks for the fix! I've given up with the BOS exit crash for now. I've reverted back to the save which works from when I first entered the BOS. The other duplicate save must be corrupt. Either way I have done the BOS, got the power armour and operation upgrades and left the base without any crashes!

One minor issue I noted was on level 3 in the bunkers, when unlocking the chests/lockers it says 'error' instead of unable to open etc. Very minor.

As this is my first play through if I stumble across any other bugs ill be sure to keep you informed and list them on the wiki as well. Ok cool sounds good re the credits, you can put me down as 'Mortrock'. Once again, great mod!

OK, so just finished Fallout with FIXT and...no bugs! I didn't pick up any problems with BOS, mariposa, cathedral, etc. All worked fine, tested continuing playing after end and worked fine as well. So no bugs from me from my playthrough except the one I submitted earlier (about missing caravan quest).

Also, just again thank you Sduibek (and all others involved) for FIXT; it is wonderful. Playing through Fallout again now just reminded me of how it is without a shred of doubt one of the best videogames ever made and means so much to me personally (and ofc Fallout 2 as well). Tim Cain is legend. They don't make em like this anymore. I will definitely keep donating to you Sduibek (probably in the next 2 months or so) to show my appreciation for FIXT and your work getting all the mods/enhancements of Fallout to play nice with each other.

I will also play through the game again this year with FIXT and test again for you. This time I will play a very different route than I normally play so I will be able to test different avenues than I did with this playthrough. Will also remain active in this thread (I am working on a FOT mod as well so I do keep up with the Fallout/FOT modding scene) and keep an eye on the evolution of FIXT.

@phillon Awesome, thanks! I'm glad to help people enjoy the game more. Your help (of both kinds :)) is very much appreciated. And I agree, Fallout is a great game. I really want to play Fallout 2 again with the F2RP because I haven't yet.

----

Unrelated: Hopefully I'll have another small patch public soon, which should fix the other holodisk issues (Blades/Zimmerman) and should help with the BoS crashes, and include the fix for Missing Caravans quest.

Hi Sduibek, I have come across another crash. I think this time its related to my follower. I'm in the Cathedral basement versing the two super mutants and as soon as Ian moves it crashes. Save is below:

I've tried loading an older save and it seems to keep crashing at the at the start of the super mutants turn to attack.

Thanks!

Damn :( Thanks for the save, I'll see what I can do.

In other news, another patch is "almost done" and should be available "soon". It should fix every single holodisk issue and holodisk crash -- including destroying unneeded holodisks as intended.
