Fallout 1 mod Fallout Fixt - next release will be some time in Jan 2020

There is a good ending for the Followers described in a nar_16.txt file:
Code:
1:The Followers of the Apocalypse rise to become a major influence in New California.
2:With your help, they gain control of the LA Boneyard.
It seems to be heavily bugged though, no matter how hard I tried, never achieved it. So I would like to see the happy Followers someday. :)
Oh wow, I never knew that. Cool!

I think i'll do some work on L.A., several people have mentioned stuff about it that's messed up, and there's quite a few quests that didn't make the cut, as well as other weird confusions/oddities.

New ending slides takes code edits - if the person from TeamX who did the one for Harry is still around, I can ask them if they could contribute.

Yes, the Followers ending was bugged-- funny too, in New Vegas it was also bugged. That means, in every game they appeard, their good ending was bugged. How sad. :p

That worked, thanks!

I have another problem now however. I entered the Hub and bought a lot of science and repair books, which I read right there on the spot. When I saved the game, the game threw some kind of error saying "cannot generate critters" or something in the manner of that. Now I cannot load my game anymore, the game always crashes (and ofc I didn't have a backup). This must be a Fixt error, since I haven't had such ever before.

Any help would be welcome.

I am sorry to hear that :(

Please send me your savegames, I can run them through debugger to see what is broken.

@Lexx "lol sux 2 b them"

Okay, down to srs bidness:

1) Regarding child-killing; in vanilla Fallout you had to kill three (3) before everyone started hating you for being an evil bastard.

1A) I changed this to one (1) around Alpha 2 I think, maybe earlier. This would only apply if they were slain by your hand, or one of your NPC teammates (Ian for example) - not just dying in front of you or whatever.

2) I will be changing it back due to understandable complaints about the NPCs being stupid and killing children 'by accident'.

2A) Should it be changed back to its original value, or a middle ground of two (2) child-kills before you're dubbed a Child-Killer?

2B) Should Karma drop by more than it did prior? In vanilla Fallout and current version of FIXT, killing a child only reduces your overall Karma by one (1), thus your "freebie child kills" have very little impact on the game whatsoever, even behind the scenes. Hence my original motivation for the change explained above.

I would say at least 10 karma, maybe 20...killing kiddies is the lowest of the low. Also it makes building an evil character so much easier, otherwise you would need to massacre every town to max out your negative karma. Do they have bounty hunters in F1, I can't remember.

Yeah, but only one (Chris Avellone) and if you kill him he never comes back.

10->20 is too much I think, gotta remember that Fallout uses much smaller changes in Karma over time numerically than Fallout 2 does.

According to This "Evil Fallout" guide you can only get as low as -168 and that's at the end of the entire game. Versus the same person doing Fallout 2 had Karma: -1775 (Demon Spawn)

EDIT: Hahahaha, 22 children kills. Nice.

Install Alpha 3, get Ian and then upgrade to Alpha 4.

Just tried it. Started a game with alpha 3, got Ian, then upgraded to alpha 4 and Ian disappeared.. The reason for insisting on this Ian matter is cause it suprises me that no one else seems to have Ian missing in alpha 4 and furthermore Ian is an important npc for early progress in fallout and obviously makes many early quests approachable(radcaves, raiders).
Sduibek, hope your patch will be rdy soon.

Still there is an optional nasty cheat in FIXT, you can handle it even without Ian:
[spoiler:b2881d7280]Look for an old woman in one of the garden's building in Shady sands. She will give you hunting rifle and some decent armour, if you are going to the radscorpions cave.[/spoiler:b2881d7280]

Already found her. In early game the importance of Ian is not his firearms but his presence. Especially in the raiders base he can be the punchbag as you focus on the raider's leader for example.

[spoiler:7df399f30a]By the way, that elder even if you kill all the radscorpions she will still answer to you like you haven't when you talk to her after finishing quest.[/spoiler:7df399f30a]

Ohhh that. Thanks.

EDIT: For anyone curious, what happened is I changed the naming scheme of the NPC graphic files to make more sense in Alpha 4, but somehow the old .PRO files for the critters are still pointing to the old graphics, even though I changed them. Must have been overwritten at some point when sorting through my data backups and I didn't notice. Fallout actually handles this sort of thing quite gracefully I think - instead of the game crashing and making your computer explode, it just removes the critter in question or prevents them from running that animation.

Hmm. I basically just copied that critter & script directly from the unused data files. What do you think should be given instead?

..I'm not complaining about it, do not change it! It's fully based on a player's free choice (YES/NO) after all. As an old timer, I'm preferring the vanilla harsh balance, that's all.

Then you will definitely enjoy Fallout FIXT: Survival once I begin releasing that as an option :)

I am ready to release the Alpha 4 patch however I need someone with a 32-bit OS, or greater than Home Premium version of Windows Vista/7 to do something for me.

I need to resize the .PRO files and cannot do it because i'm currently running 7 Home Premium 64-bit. chsize is a 16-bit application.

Please contact me and i'll send you the files. Thanks

I installed the patch and tried to start a new game, but now there is this big black box covering the middle of the screen and i've read in other forums but no one seems to have this Problem.

The problem I used to have was this black fog always appearing every few seconds which i could wipe away by pressing f1 for the help menu then returning to the game, but it would come back again after a few secs. The patch solved this, but now theres this black area covering most of my screen when i started a new game and i cant get rid of it. Anyone know how to fix this? Really frustrated.

Just to be clear, this is not fixed by the Screen Refresh exe?

EDIT: Also have you tried messing with f1res? Tried 8bit colour, then 16bit, then 32bit.

What OS are you using? Are you running the game in Compatability Mode?

Other things that are farfetched but could help in theory - play around with Compatability Mode settings for falloutw.exe, rename fallout.cfg, play around with art_cache_size variable in fallout.cfg, disable f1res, try different settings in ddraw (D3D mode, 16bit mode, etc) with f1res disabled

With some older games (Diablo) getting scrambled colors it helps to set the desktop to a Plain Color and then open the Change Resolution screen before game runs if you're using windows Vista/7. Worth a try if this issue is somehow related to the same Directdraw output glitch.
