Fallout: New Vegas E3 previews

I watch the game demo on the G4TV coverage ..it was okay. The strip(like most have said) felt empty ..i hope they add more people walking around at least. I though it was funny when Kevin called it " FALLOUT VICE CITY! The game did seem to look a bit better, but sadly the animation did looked the same.Sawyer didn't talk about role playing much at all,he did mention about the companions having there own story.(love that)There was a scene ,when a guy asked the player to help with something(side quest),but he basically told him to beat it.I was hoping to hear some of the dialogue .One thing I was happy to see was the reputation text box pop on the screen. After killing a few of Caesar Legion ,it stated that "Now that folks know you're bad, most people out right hate you. 8-) At the end of the demo, there was hilarious bug (sorry) with a guy jumping up & down, then it closed with him just walking into a wall.! i know.I know it's still early, but this is Obsidian/Bethesda, :o

Nice one.

Yay, normal + golden + fire geckos are back!

This one is new, I believe.

Joystiq]As the dev warped me to the next adventure, I asked if he thought this game was an expansion or a sequel, and he told me that it was definitely not just an expansion. The world is comparable in size to the area we've explored around DC, and there are lots and lots of new models and new art to work with, he said. But I'm not sure I agree -- new content, even if there's lots of it, doesn't necessarily mean a new game.
HOLY STUPIDITY!!!

Isn't that the old shitty plasma rifle? If it's still there, with the Fallout 3 plasma rifle, I'm okay with this.

1up]I hear that while New Vegas won't have the full "Intelligence of one equals Neanderthal dialogue" effect of previous Fallout games, knocking your intelligence all the way down does make you an exceptionally dim person. Sure, you won't be a monosyllabic buffoon, but you'll go through most conversations asking people to either repeat themselves or to explain just what they mean.
I still hope they'll be funny. Hmm, this guy knows about the existence ot Fallout 1/2?

@ The vid on the above post:
Yay, old plasma rifle is back! Also, look how the character gains karma at the end of the vid. And yet, he's working for Caesar's Legion. Hmm, I thought that NCR won't be any "do-gooders" (Caesar's Legion = bad guys, NCR = good guys), but it seems also that Caesar's Legion has their good sides.

reposting my likes/dislikes about the 1UP video here since the other thread doesn't seem as active:

some details I liked:

- there seems to be more variety in weapons and they seem more interesting than the generically named models in FO3.

- the way they're handling casinos shows that they've really thought about consequences in the game. hopefully this also applies elsewhere, where it may actually matter more.

- being able to sneak in weapons into the casinos. again, hopefully this means we'll get more of these fun little things elsewhere.

- companions actually seem worthwhile and fun.

- walking/running animations are A LOT better. and if my eyes didn't just play tricks on me, I think I saw a soldier running diagonally!

- IRON SIGHTS!

things I didn't like:

- AI seems as stupid as ever. enemy tactics seem to only consist of running towards you out in the open, guns blazing.

- downtown Vegas looked pretty damn dead. I didn't expect, nor did I want it to be crowded, but I sorta thought it would be more lively. granted, this video was during the night so there might be more activity during the day. remains to be seen.

like I stated above, I think walking/running animations look a lot better. they've definitely improved them, there's no doubt about it. people no longerlook likey they're floating above the ground! and as I also said, I'm pretty sure they've added an animation for characters running diagonally. start looking at the video at 10:30 and you'll soon see an NCR soldier turning around while running. it certainly looks a lot better than before.

God I hate faggots who think this, honestly. There are so many people on the internet claiming that New Vegas is (or should be) "DLC" right now.

"Hey guys, news just in: Fallout 2 was an expansion pack to Fallout!"

I don't really understand how you can even think that. is it just because it doesn't have a number in its title? I don't get it. stupid people are stupid.

It already looks miles better than Fallout 3. Fuck, even the backstory sounds better than the plot of Fallout 3. Find your daddy, fight enemies you already fought last game, and give free water or kill people with water vs. two warring factions with morally grey motivations and their interactions with eachother and an independent party in Vegas itself.

Not to mention they're bringing back a lot of stuff from 1 and 2. Hey, Bethesda! What's your excuse? You had more time to develop your game, and yet these Obsidian guys are adding way more stuff than you.

oh, I forgot to mention something: I have yet to see one single rusty tin can!

Also fuck you NMA for saying fallout would be on at 5:00 est when it turns out it came on at 10 to 9pm!

I've been relying on NMA for years for my Fallout news, even when there didn't seem like there would ever be a Fallout game ever made again (except fan-developed) they had something to say, usually faster than DAC. With that said, I wouldn't say "Fuck them" per say, but I did waste about three hours of my life yesterday waiting for that footage. I don't really care and I know the NMA guys are on a different schedule and they were given misinformation, but I sympathize with your sentiment.

Also, as to the weird bugs/glitches, when you're watching the NCR troop stumble drunkenly out of that building at the beginning of the video (he's walking down steps) he's acting all stupid loaded, and then J.E.'s character looks away for a second, then looks back, and the guy is right as rain. I was really hoping more would be done with the alcohol system, but I have a feeling my characters will miraculously recover from the thirty bottles of rotgut they just drank in a matter of minutes... Again.

I think something's wrong with your quote button, Cunning. It's showing up weird.

Anyway, I'll see you guys at 5:20 PM at the IGN demo, which should be 20 or so minutes long.

Thanks man, I just noticed that too.

I have another point, if what they say in the trailer is true and House "won" Vault 21 from its original overseer (or whatever) and THEN turned it into a luxury casino, they're going to HAVE to explain where all of these resources are coming from. Even if NV wasn't hit with a nuclear explosion, the custom injection molding process and neon filament manipulation that would be required to create a giant sign like that would have to be outsourced from Vegas. And the other thing is that one of the articles lists Vault 21 as a "dive"? What does that mean?

It could either mean the guy who saw the demo didn't know what he was talking about or the super awesome technology (I'm sure it's there) that the Vault's lower levels contains has long since been scavenged and is now in the possession of House. If that's the case, there had better be a good quest for Vault 21, other than "It was based on gambling and now it's a garbage can for prostitutes to do their business in".

You're right! If they really removed the zillions of useless interactable objects (tin can, iron, spoon...) I'm going to build a temple for J.E. Sawyer. If they just severely reduced their number, it's going to be a small budget church.

That Plasma Caster looks like a modified Heavy Incinerator. I hope it's more powerful than the Plasma Rifle. Speaking, it has a new grip on it. I don't think the one in Fallout 3 even had one.

I don't know, I've always thought of Fallout 2 as a full-priced expansion pack. It's definitely less of a rip-off than a typical Madden "sequel", but they made it in less than 2 years.

Must be the same place Gizmo got his.

From the reloading parts of the video it does look like a faithfull reproduction of the Winchester. The incinerator does look a bit like the P94 though.

Also *squee* the plasma rifles back!

So, what are we saying? That a game has to have a new graphics engine or different mechanics to be a new game?
