1.5m in a matter of weeks, goes to show people are still interested in real RPG's, please take note gaming industry!

I wouldn't use a single game as an indication of this happening, how well has Arcania IV sold?
Arcania? That game has as much of role-playing as my 5-year old nephew of macho attitude. You can't really compare that to FNV. That said, I tend to agree with Mr. Threepwood in general. Good cRPG can always be sold, especially now when they are so scarce (not in titles, but in quality).

This basically.

Also, Elven, Dragon Age is another good example of RPG's doing very well. As much as I dislike that game..

And yet BioWare is still make Dragon Age 2 a Mass Effect clone.

Don't expect much in the ways of a RPG revival from the mainstream US developers. European and indies, that's where it's at.

Okay, just checked it with a guy who got some info from JoWood. They sold about 120 000 copies in about a month (release date of the international version was 12th of Oct. 2010, followed by the NA version exactly one week later).

EDIT: forgot to mention it, I referred to Arcania. Sorry about any confusion introduced.

While it adapts some things from ME there is a misunderstanding going on.

Much of what was shown so far is from the console version of DA2. And to be honest. It doesn't look that different from the DA one.

The PC Interface wasn't shown till now IIRC. But it will mostly stay the same according to someone that works at Bio.

You are mistaken. They have already announced the PC too will lack an overhead view. Read the Kotaku preview, amongst others. The only difference is that you don't have to button-mash on PC. Laidlaw had already said as much earlier.

I was less refering to the view. More refering to the general gameplay and UI.

And I'm saying people are pegging too much hope on the PC somehow magically being completely different, even though it's clearly being stated the only difference is you don't have to keep clicking.

They changed the game's direction and the PR so far has been for a hack 'n slash title. There's no "misunderstanding" going on, that is what it is unless you want to assume elsewise based on no evidence. Oh, I mean, unless you want to believe "someone who works at BioWare" (no links, no source).

Yes, because Dragon Age advertising has been so represantive of the game so far. DA2 is the new shit.:P

On a more serious note you are right I haven't given a source though i didn't find it necessary at the end. Didn't think that through. :wall:

But here:

Edit: And more specifically this:

I honestly think we've done a good job taking the more traditional gameplay of DA:O and eliminating things that just don't make sense anymore, while still keeping a game that plays and feels very much like a Dragon Age game.

Ah. The standard PR talk of "yip, we're dumbing it down. Suck it."

No overhead view, but the PC version will have a free floating camera mode instead, won't it?

You can zoom the camera in and out and rotate it, but you can't move it to an upwards angle, from what I've read.

Yeah, which is a shame, but still better than if it were pure TPP, like on the consoles.

well the first dragon age feelt to me "almost" like some hack n slay game considering how damn much fighting and more fighting and even MORE fighting you have to do in that game. Not saying that it is linear or something. But it feelt extremly boring at some point.

There's a lot of trash mob combat in DA:O but that doesn't really make it a hack 'n slash. It makes it closer to a dungeon crawl.

Not really. What's the use of zooming out if you can't lift the camera?

I think you can lift it a bit, just not as much for it to be an actual top-down perspective. And at least being able to scroll through the field of battle makes it easier to assess the situation, give out orders to a bunch of characters etc.
