Fallout: New Vegas Set to Feature Transphobia?

It is pretty ridiculous. It was kind of the same for Fallout 3 too. It's like people are looking for stuff to get offended at.

*shrugs* Hard to judge other people's feelings tho. From what we've seen so far Tabitha does look like a ridiculous character, regardless.
Wait, what was contreversial with Fallout 3? No sex and no childkilling was even in it.

Ridiculous indeed. People will complain/get offended over anything. I never thought of Tabitha as being transgendered, its a super mutant, they have a neutral gender. Well, I guess neutral gender is gender. Uh, nevermind.

Anyway, the game isn't even out. How do they know how this particular character will be represented? They don't. This mutant could be complex, could be in fact discriminatory in some way, who knows. The mutants are the "other" in the Fallout world, of course there would be discrimination, prejudice, and fears toward them. These types of things exist in game because they exist in real world society. If anything, it's merely a commentary on society.

Seriously some things are better to be left without response.

And btw. who can seriously say that is 100% not a little racist, xenophobe or homophobe?

</blockquote>Stealth Boys are a drug?

It seems so: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Circle_of_Steel

Man, I can't believe how idiotic this piece of background is. The fact it's part of the Van Buren docs just makes me sad.
A cloaking field with psychological side-effects ? Seriously ?
Who come up with such shitty ideas ?
Is it supposed to be, like, cool ?

Like the Nightkin I suppose. Hell yeah, if we put elite soldiers, mutants, stealth, drug, psychological effects, insanity, all these cool things put together should only make for an overwhelming experience of awesomeness, shouldn't it ?

Games these days are so written by 6 years old...

The biggest point though is that in looking at it, I've never even thought of Tabitha as transgender, how can it be, honestly, SM's don't have gender. It's crazy and wearing a wig glasses and lipstick. In truth this is more of an identity crisis than anything. People will always look for something thats offensive, the very fact that you can kill dogs is offensive to some people. The fact that gaming is finally coming onto the same level as movies means that people will attack it. People really have to start taking things at face value, and that face is very ugly right now... But its a game, its meant to be entertaining, and to do something new they went with something that is the complete oposiate of Fawkes. I've seen plenty of new movies have some dandy gay person or some other stereotype in it and haven't heard such things other than a few rumblings cause at the same time as you have a bad steriotype in one movie you have a good one in another, games are still pushing he boundries of what is considered acceptable for them, the biggest pushers to date has been Rockstar with GTA, whom seems to be contraversial just to be so.

As for the Stealth Boys, The best estimation as to why it makes people go crazy that I can make is low level subsonic sound, or residual radiation from the device, both things exist in our world and have been known to cause psychological problems, ranging from headaches to schizophrenia. ]

Even the knowledge of the stealth boy's existence could probably elicit paranoia in a fair share of people.

Besides, if you use it a lot, you might suspect that others are using it just as much (or *gasp* even more). I suppose that most people would be pretty paranoid if they were hanging out with a group of dudes with stealth boys. If it were me, and if transgender mutants were known to wield such equipment, I'd make sure to have mine constantly activated.

As for the transgender debate. Stupidity is here to stay, and I find it strange that the good folks at this forum (of all people) seem somewhat surprised about that fact.

edit(s): fixing syntax

I wonder if the player use the stealth boy, he will also have urges to wear nice robes, blond wigs...
Could be funny, you wake up one morning only to find out that you had a "removal" surgery the night before! :D

Arguably all Super Mutants are monogender even if they retain some vestigial biological sex characteristics since said characteristics no longer have any social or biological meaning in Super Mutant society

Does this write off the arguing Super Mutant married couple in Broken Hills?

Or it could indicate that some mutants retain their gender (not sex) traits and are able to exercise them in their society. Could also be attributed to Broken Hills mutants living among humans and mimicking THEIR gender traits.

Mutants from the west coast are sterile, but I don't think they lost their sexual organ, or the Master would have realize a lot sooner that there was a probleme. I think i remember in the dialogue with the vault dweller, he ask the master to check with the female mutants if they had any kids. Plus Marcus go see whores, Francis kinda... well... you know...

Thank you, I now only need to get the mental image of hawt mutant-on-mutant supersex outta my cranium.

:P

Oh no, this is the Fawkes thing all over again, isn't it? All that talk about gender, supermutants, sex and FEV effects. It's just a game, sometimes it's best to just let some things fly.
Also, sorry if I'm offending people, but I really couldn't care less about the feelings of trannies about a videogame character.

Not really. The Stealth Boy effect is a nice twist on the device, well in line with the SCIENCE! aspect of Fallout.

Besides, since we don't have any data on how a human would react to being enveloped in a stealth field (seeing how we have none whatsoever in real life), your bitching is really stupid.

I thought it was a nod towards "The Invisible Man" by H.G Wells.
In short invisible man gradually goes crazy.

Haha, aren’t those transgender people absolutely hilarious?

Of course they are!

I mean, they're almost as funny as that guy that got killed while having sex with a horse.

Unless of course you pick up a chick at a bar and while home you accidentally see that the name on the card is Helmut. Then it's quite terrifying.

And seriously, we have a world where human life has no value, where orphans live alone, hungry, a world where there's no medical aid, people die of hunger, thirst or diseases that are a mere nuissance today, and this individual complains about making fun of this freak or the other?

Honestly I never understood the morality thing in games. It's okay if someone walks up, puts a pistol to your chest and blows your nternal organs out, but it's suddenly ten times worse if he comes up and just calls you a dirty nigger or raging faggot. I know some people claim words hurt more than bullets but come on.

Yeah, actually the West Coast mutants do retain their sex organs. Otherwise, the Master not knowing that they are sterile (and you telling him to ask his female mutants) would be ridiculous. They do lose secondary sexual traits, such as breasts, though.

I entirely agree with archont. There's a difference between being a normal person who makes a life decision and the hilarious people. For instance, if there's a gay guy and he's acting normal and not being ridiculous, I have no problem with him. If he shows up with pink hair wearing a shirt that says "Rainbows are for boys" and refers to everyone as "girlfriend" I reserve the right to laugh at him, not necessarily because he's gay, but because he's acting in an illogical and retarded way and is so uninteresting that he's had to define himself as the worst stereotype of his kind. So, if you see a male, dressed like a female, in a world where 99.9% of society basically stays with their birth-genitalia, how can you NOT think that's funny?

Unless you're one of them or an idiot looking to find something to bitch about.

I think Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man might be a darker line to bold face the opinion, the presumed 'shock and awe' tactics by Obsidian.
