This is a problem with many people today. A lot of people today want to be seen as special and to be treated as special. They want Mary-Sue power fantasies where everyone tells them that they are amazing or falls in love with them. This is my personal opinion but I think the reason why is because, deep down, these people know that they aren't special or unique. They are the same decaying mass of flesh and bone like everyone else on this Earth. To ward off that realization and the depression that comes with it they indulge in fantasy because in their fantasy they are someone special, who the fate of the world rests on, who is powerful and not powerless. They are also idealized versions of themselves with no flaws and who everyone praises and falls in love with. I personally find such stories and characters to be garbage for the mind and utter tripe. The Fallout series was always about ordinary people who either got dealt a bad hand or were thrown into a situation beyond their control. The characters were never treated as special or unique but rather as a person that is a part of the world who could be anybody. That is what made the OG Fallout's and New Vegas so compelling.
