I wanted to write "I don't want to see a Fallout live action series, period" but then I retreated from that opinion.
A Fallout live action series may be possible, but there would be some requirements such as not at any point based at Bethesda's mangling of the lore (fat chance), or at this current time (expect certain activist appeasement to appear in this series), and done by writers who actually understand the original IP and know its lore (not anyone in Hollywood).

Currently I think this show may have one, perhaps two seasons at max before rating have declined to such a rate after the people start to turn away after the first couple, that Amazon or who is investing in this realizes that this is a money drain.
Of course Bethesda Fallout fans will complain that this show ended before its time and of course blame the older fandom for not supporting it.

Because it is based on Bethesda's take on Fallout that reduced the amount of seriousness that the original games, especially the first game, handled despite some of the goofiness here and there.
The designers at Bethesda misunderstood what the world before the war was like, and made the post-war one almost something like the ridiculousness of Wasteland 2, only a bit more milktoast.

Was Nuka Break relatively light hearted? I never followed it.

I have never believed that... I believe that they discarded the whole of the original concept as unsellable to their target market, and rewrote it as that goofy mess intentionally; for sake of marketing. A simplified elevator pitch, where it is easier to sell, "a future stuck in the 50's" than it is "the future anticipated in the 50's, where even the physical laws of reality are bent to their misunderstandings, fears, and apprehensions about the atom bomb."

    It was a youtube-channel larp.

Only one game was dark and serious though. Fallout 2 was goofy dumb shit.

I think this message was somewhat lost since Fallout 2, I don't really see Fallout as this extremelly dark setting as you are saying, maybe because I tend to preffer Fallout 2 over 1 and NV, and that game has a way more satirical approach to it's message, while still keeping some of the serious bits.

The main problem is that I don't really see the Fallout story being well translated to other forms of media, in a way it isn't that great of an story and universe, it is something that works more by placing the player in a position to interact over that situation. In other words, most of my favourite storylines in Fallout happen because it puts my own perspective or the perspective of who I am roleplaying as over that universe, and that is what makes it fun.

When we compare it to something like Halo a tv series (a fucking good one at least) would go in really well as that universe works sometimes even better outside the games and especially outside the Master Chief perspective.

One could argue that Fallout NV was too, but I think it stands somewhere in the middle of FO1 and 2.

It's a good job the guy playing the ghoul was not a Robert De Niro method type of actor. He may have sliced off his nose. I wanted to watch this when it was on British TV (again) but I dozed off. Is this any good ?

Fallout can be translated to other media fine you guys are just used to everything you like being ruined. FNV is praised here but I could barely play it at launch without it crashing. Pretty sure at this point I would prefer the Dying Light dev to just make a FPS RPG like Fallout albeit with simplistic mechanics and call it Fallout 420. Compare the combat in Dying Light to any Bethesda game and it is crazy. Long story short their games suck but Fallout can still be somewhat entertaining if they are not involved as much...like in FNV.

Uhhh yeah. I watch more TV than you do.

I know the inclination is to say anything made in 2022 is gonna suck but it's also boring as hell.

Fallout without FEV, ghouls, 50's aesthetics, humor.

Not terrible; but Fallout would have you start over when it ended, The Road is not a film I'd watch twice even years apart; though I might watch it again.

That's somewhat the reason why I liked Fallout 4. Fo3 tries to be like Fallout and fail miserably in many aspects of it, Fo4 strays of the franchise way more. While this is bad for many reasons, being able to play basically a looter shooter type of game with the skin of a franchise I love was great. Although I must admit that most of my playtime was building settlements and repairing some of the buildings with mods, so in a way I couldn't care less to what they done to the story and shit.

All of that fan fiction Youtube stuff is garbage. If that is what the fans want then I am glad they don't run shit.

As for Fallout 4 it's just too simplistic for me to ever play again. Such a huge missed opportunity like Bethesda is known for.

Just to let you guys know the cast is looking decent on this. I do know who those actors are. I am pretty sure all the people bitching will end up watching it.

I don't think Fallout is necessarily supposed to be SUPER DARK. Hell, you could write a fun happy kid story in the Fallout universe, and written well enough, it could work. Remember, Fallout is a setting, not a story. Stories happen in the setting, through the setting also has a story and a history.

In fact, I feel there's kind of an optimistic tack inherent in Fallout, while it rarely shines through, it's there: The whole "Yeah the world ended, but now we can explore this new frontier and rebuild!" feeling. The feeling that the new world is a canvas upon which to create something new.

Still, I think that no matter what, Fallout always need some of that tragedy of the Pre-War World and the cyclic nature of the entire premise that "War Never Changes" - the Great War happened and it will likely happen again (unless someone succeeds where The Master failed). The tragedy of that mighty civilization that was one step from reaching the stars, but fell into techno-barbarism instead.

Old World Blues vs New World Hope is a perfect encapsulation of that duality.

Hot Take: Fallout 2 was goofier and jokier because it was also darker. Brighter whites, darker blacks. The game is full of dark stuff, slavery everywhere, two cities full of whores and junkies, the Enclave going around genociding people, Vault City being Vault City, racism everywhere, Intelligent Deathclaws getting genocided, an entire town of drug-addict miners, even the NCR is not as idealistic as it sounds.

Strip all the funny stuff and Fallout 2 would be downright depressive.

Also, it's the "Return of the Jedi" of the two classics: Fallout ends on a bittersweet tone as the world is saved, but the Vault Dweller is betrayed and loses what he was fighting to protect. Fallout 2 ends on a happy note in which the peoples of Arroyo and Vault 13 finally reunite after almost a century's separation, the most vile antagonists in the series are nuked, the Vault Dweller is vindicated by his own grandchild who ends up a greater hero than him, and together they all build a new, enlightened civilization in the form of New Arroyo.

Anyone who says "they wouldn't do X in a mdoern tv show" clearly hasn't watched anything post 2005 or some shit lmao They do so much raunchy, high concept, etc shit on tv shows nowadays, specially on the Amazon stuff it's kind of a self reporting on talking out of your ass when you say "tv shows wouldn't do this thing!". We are way beyond the era of Buffy guys.

This doesn't apply to TV shows only, I think the entire media nowadays is even more open to darker themes or even some outright controversial topics, maybe not in the mainstream media, but we are in 2022 and access to "non mainstream content" is easier than ever.

It sounds like possibly some of our out-of-touch old guys should just turn on a fucking streaming service for once in their life. I have been shocked at what is on television and NOTHING Fallout EVER did in those CHILDISH ASS GAMES compared to what is on TV or movies nowadays. Fuck I can't even rape anyone in a Fallout game what kind of hardcore apocalypse sim is this?

Ok so in The Witch a Witch pounds a baby she killed into jelly for ritual purposes. It doesn't show much but it shows enough.

Ok , ta for your viewpoint. I have watched various Fallout film on Youtube made by fans drama groups kind of thing. So good on 'em whether good bad or indifferent hey tried.

The only things I've streamed are football/soccer matches, so I hold my hands up to that comment.

Absolutely agree, that is one of the reasons I preffer Fallout 2 over 1, it nails this kind of humour masterfully, and this is something that is not that easily done, Fo2 writing reminds me a lot of South Park and Boondocks, by being able to talk about some very dark topics with a more light tone.
