Fallout [1] —failed— its Microsoft Win95 logo application because it worked on Windows NT. [failed, because it worked! ]

In a stroke of brilliance, they crippled the installer to fail on NT; it's the reason Fallout still runs on Windows today. You just copy over the files manually and it runs as intended.
 
Cassette Decks. Personally one of my favorite bits of obselete tech that went out of style when i was a kid and my dad continued to use for recording music all the way til 2012 when my uncle told him to get with the times; and showed him the beauty of digital recording. Frankly i love and hate the quality of them and playing old synthwave, outrun, or early techno on them sounds beautiful for some reason

Way back when, mid 2000s, a dude posted pixs of a nixie tube wristwatch he made, Ive always thought it was neat old tech.

i used to have an absolutely beautiful mortar and pestle made of soap stone that my family brought over from Africa when they immigrated that i used to use for coffee beans and spices.
but it was stolen by an estranged family member, shit sucks it was really nice

I never had to deal with lingering smells or tastes either so i think that might be typical for them

In the 'Shawshank Redemption' Tim Robbins made chess pieces from soap stone. I made chess pieces out of toilet paper and thinned PVA glue when I was in ' The big house'.

Is a computer from 2010 running Win 7 considered obsolete tech ? I would guess yes, as computers age like ' Doggies Years'

Id say so but only because i was in the same boat for a fair few years until i upgraded to using peppermint OS,
i cant do anything too fancy or technical with it but i find you can get quite a bit more mileage out of old computers, especially from the 2007 - 2012 time period in my experience, if you upgrade to a GNU linux OS

Ok, thanks for that bit of advice. I tried to process a video using windows live movie maker earlier. It got to about 80% done then it crashed and switched off lol. The chip must be white hot. I've used movie maker lots of times so I know my old comp is on it's last legs.
 
RAM Drives. Way back when, you could use a portion of memory to designate as a hard drive. The concept is old but kind of fell in disuse as hard drive capacities grew more and more. However hard drives still suck ass in access speed. So the during the 2000-2015 period, a few companies tried to make a newer version.

You may think its a piece of crap now that we have SSDs but don't be fooled, the reason why this technology didn't take is cost, not performance. RAM is very expensive compared to a hard drive. If you could get a server version of this...like a 4 slot version, and tucked 4x256 GB modules in there, baby, you would cooking with gas!

The reason is very simple. Hard drives measure their access speed in milliseconds. RAM however, measure their access time in nanoseconds. Not milli, not micro...nanoseconds. Two orders of magnitude faster than a hard drive. I really wish I could pay someone to build me one that supported DDR4 in a 5.25 drive enclosure and supported PCIe x4. I wonder how fast an OS would get copied on that. Maybe you could finally run Fallout 4 in 4K without stutter for texture loading or Sims 3 with all the DLCs enabled? A device like this would easily saturate a SATA3 channel.

Cons? Well, as I mentioned before, cost. A 128 GB ram module will cost you a cool ~$1000 PER module. So the RAM controller + 4 modules, maybe $10000. Also, RAM is volatile, which means whenever you turn off your computer, whatever your data contains is lost. So add in the cost of a battery, and as we all know, LiPo batteries suck and will die and swell in a year or two.

At this present juncture the term " Cooking with gas " means you are being crushed by global capitalism, which has hiked prices sky high. These huge price increases would have happened if Russia had not had a conflict with that very dodgy global player, Ukraine.

Partitioned drives say using Win98se for gaming was good as later editions, Millennium were awful.
