Fighting Games

So Old I'm Losing Radiation Signs
Orderite
I've recently re-fallen in love with fighting games, and have picked up a few for PS3.

If anybody wants to play:
-Super Street Fighter IV
-BlazBlue: Continuum Shift
-Mortal Kombat 9

Send me a PM.

Any other fight game fans here?

I got to Shao Khan in the new Mortal Kombat's story mode.

He's a cheating bastard.

But yeah, I've got SSFIV and MvC3 too, so yeah.

I'll kick-a you ass!

I would say MK 9 is the current king. They really redeemed themselves with this one, it is pretty great.

MK9 isn't too bad, but it won't have the legs of a SSFIV or BlazBlue, as it just isn't as deep.

I beat MK9 with Scorpion using some cheap tactics.

I'm very upset that the PC world doesn't seem to have any focus on fighting games. :(

It's a very 'console' thing, for many reasons, but it sucks that there are not many PC ports out there. Shouldn't be too hard to port a fighting game, should it?

I'd love to try the new Mortal Kombat, but I'm not crazy about buying any console...

@SkuLL: Emulators my friend, emulators. I've been able to run Tekken 5 on PCSX2, Soul Calibur on Chankast, Dissidia and Duodecim on JPCSP, and many more. Really, except of PSP, most of emulators novadays are pretty decent, and there is little, if any difference in terms of visuals.

Anyway, I think that some genres should never be released to consoles or PC. No jRPGs, fighting games and such on PC, and no western RPGs, RTS' or FPS' on consoles. Hell yeah.

This is just dumb.

I'd like to second this statement.

It's because the devs are either lazy, or are all over the "OMG all PC users are pirates" thing.

As for emulators, that only works for older games. Some of those are still awesome though - like Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.

The MK devs said they are interested in a pc release a la Street fighter. Can't seem to find the link though.

Why?

There is nothing stopping fighting games on the pc, heck there is more incentive to get fighters on the pc because of the wide range of gamepads available.
PC games shall not have to suffer thy 360 D-Pad of crapness.

I was thinking about buying the new MK, because it looks awesome, but since they haven't released a PC version, I will give my money to some other developer. Your loss, console-only devs.

Yeah, I've heard that too.
And I believe it will happen. After all, nothing wrong happened with Street Fighter being on PC...

What is the last game that ran smoothly on both consoles and PC? Engine optimisation is hell of a work, and devs are just too fucking lazy to put some effort into it. All they do is just swap the libraries, recompile engine, do some other shit ad voila! You've got a game that runs perfectly on Xbox, quite good on PS3 and lags like hell on PC. Just like F3/NV (badly optimised for PC), or The Orange Box (runs like shit on consoles, or at least on Xbox). Also, exclusives tend to look better than multiplatform games (compare Crysis or Uncharted with Final Fantasy XIII (yeah, all of them look amazing, yet Crysis and Uncharted, as exclusives, are better optimised for their platforms).

Console and PC gaming are quite different. Most console players play on huge TV screens, most PC players play on small monitors. Therefore, interface on console games tends to be huge, and consists of large boxes of small amount of text. On the other hand, interface and fonts on PC games can be much smaller.

Lack of good controllers is another thing. Console controllers are very limited, and, imo at least, there is no good way to control a character in FPS, for example. Analog sticks aren't as responsive, fast and precise as a mouse. And playing, for example, fighting games, or some action-adventure/RGP games on keyboard is really HUGE pain in the ass (try playing God of War, Kingdom Hearts, or any 3D Sonic game on a keyboard :D). Yeah, I know, you can always buy a gamepad. But higher-quality ones are quite expensive, and dirt-cheap ones tend to break after one unsucessful combo (and throw into the wall :D).

why?, because is pretty easy to do the special move?

I can not said about Blazblue, because i dont know the story of the game. but i know that ssf4 dont have story, so please tell me why do you think ssf4 is better

In terms of quality, I don't mean story, I mean fighting system. SSFIV, BlazBlue, etc, have very, very deep engines (cancels, 1-2 frame links, etc) while MK is more of a "pick up and play" fighter with limited depth (but it is fun as hell).

As for controlling a fighter on console, I have long ditched the gamepad in favour of the fightstick. Here is my current weapon:

The buttons / ball top have been added by me, as I like the way they look.

Most competitive fighting gamers use arcade joysticks/fightsticks, they've been around for consoles for their entire existence.

MK has always been the casual fighter that falls apart at high-level play so I have mixed feelings about it staying that way. On one hand, MK is really fun but on the other, it's garbage that they've never bothered to make it competitive. I read some complaints by Sirlin about throws being underpowered in BlazBlue (too easy to cancel, a lot of frames to respond, not sure how true it is) but I know Guilty Gear (same developer) is top notch and BB is still very popular and respected. I have GGXX^C+ for PS2 and love it and GG:Isuka reminded me of my love for classic beat-em ups, which sadly aren't made any more...

One of the main things I miss about not having a current gen console is the lack of fighters. I really, really want to play MvC3 since the first two are just plain awesome. I also would like to play Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix.

Both should be ported to PC if you ask me. Oddly enough, Capcom ported SFIV to PC but hasn't ported anything since. Also, for those interested, BlazBlue is also for PC.

I've been thinking about making or buying a fight stick for years now (for PC and, ideally, multi-platform [it's be easy to do PC/360]), one of these days I'm going to do it...

lol, a Blazblue fan? That's unusual for a western guy.

Hm..., I haven't played fighting games since the arcades were still kicking around. The only thing I have at home is VF and some oddball anime fighter that my bro took the disk of. One really feels the march of time after a certain age when playing fighting games. I just can't pull off the same moves on VF as I did before.
