first details on Mass Effect 3's plot *spoiler*

Ye, but those were colonies composed of some settlements, a few thousand people at the very most. Earth has a population of 11 billion in Mass Effect IIRC, it's actually the galaxy's most populated planet because others species have the sense to move to their colonies, but humanity's aren't developed enough to house that many people.

Fair point. The colonies were more like villages than actual full scale living planets. Still, didn't like the destruction portrayed in the trailer. From ME1, I got the feeling that the reapers were an unimaginable threat. That game really did a fantastic job setting them up as something that is an unavoidable doom, hopeless to even attempt to fight. I expected each one to wipe out cities and the final fight to be a race to stop them from even reaching Earth. Then again, the Citadel defeated one so they are not impossibly deadly.

One thing does bug me; I saw a map of the galaxy, and Earth is indeed very close (well, actually many light years from, but you know, sci-fi speed and all) to the Reaper's arrival point. But then the local Relay is a direct link to the Citadel, and logically the Reaper would just ignore Earth (or leave a few of theirs to serve as a rear guard, it's not like they are easily dispatched) and just go straight for the Citadel, overwhelm the defenses (they have, what, at least a few dozen Reapers? plenty enough) and do what they sought to do in ME1; control the most vital point in the galaxy. Instant game over for the Free Races of Middle-err... the Milky Way. We will see if Bioware can find a way out of this.

I think perhaps Shepard pissed them off too much or made humans seem as the biggest threat? After all, [spoiler:ef15f5c04b]they were building a human reaper in ME2. [/spoiler:ef15f5c04b]
It could be a decent plot point where Shepard feels somewhat responsible for drawing attention to Earth. That could be the reason why Cerberus decides to turn against him, they blame him for the way he handled his shit and got millions of humans killed instead of some other species. I don't know.

kinda strange though. I mean the reapers would have come anyway. Regardless if they attack the earth or the Turrians first.

But I guess we have to wait till the game is out. And see it for our self.
