yay
first, let me tell you how thankful i am
fixing old stuff beyond their designed capabilities is just beautiful as a concept in itself
i recently got back into fallout2, now that my new comp is busted, and saw the potential in the pixel shader tricks this thing allows
and i got bummed over the ugly palette diffusion color artefacts
surely nobody designed the game to look like this
it was out of necessity
yet, i like the sharpness and ruggedness of the look
grain fits the postapocalyptic scenery
so i made a very simple filter that gets rid of artefacts beyond a set threshold
i think it makes a fairly good job at getting rid of the nasty, and still leaving the image nicely grainy and sharp

just place this at \data\shaders under your fallout installation and set "Mode=4" and "GlobalShaderMode=3" in ddraw.ini
i have not tried it with other dx9 modes or globalshadermodes or resolutions
i might develop it further if i deem it necessary
but i think it's "good enough" for it's purpose
you guys are free to do whatever you like with it ofcourse
