FO2 Graphics Upgrade Patch (FO2GUP)

As far as I can remember Sulik, a tribal, was able to use handguns and therefore there are some weapon animations for tribals, and the character, as a tribal in a worn down PA helmet, won't pick up a minigun and weild therefore such animations are not necessary.

I'm not thinking about a PA helmet PC, but a PA helmet NPC. Just some random tribal with some quests, simply looking cool in his helmet.
 
Sulick had a different head compared to the normal tribal model, in MR we were considering using a new model for the tribal. We would give the new model the same name so that the new model would overide the original. This would allow for a lot of other options before the player got the vault suit.

On the rocket, it would be nice if it wasn't totally finished - just like the picture. A half finished rocket would be much more true to the story than a full one. I always thought it strange that they had a fully complete shuttle (maybe inside was gutted) but if you made this new one with wires hanging out, trucks and cranes and allsorts of interesting bits and bobs it'd be awesome. I also take it you're going to paint it red and white Ja? Thats the only true fifties rocketship colour!
 
I have to oppose plans of making the body of the Power Armour painted.

The main feature of the T-51b, apart from being a fusion powered bipedal battle tank, is a thin, silver 10 micron ablative coating on the armor. This coating is what gives the armour it's anti-radiation and anti-laser capabilities, reflecting amplified light and radiation alike. Any painting on the armour would most likely damage the coating and strip the armour of parts of it's properties.

And qwerty, while the work you do on the starship is very good, I think you should alter the concept a bit, since shuttle of this stage looks (at least to me) cartoonishly, and in my opinion doesn't really fit Fallout.You could mix it with looks of the rockets of the Saturn program (development started in late '50s) and get a realistic looking, but still pulpish rocket.
 
I agree with Hotel California. Rocket should looks much better when will be half finished and maybe some crane and other stuff for workers added :)

Yea, I couldnt find a decent picture to start from (and I dont know what I'm doing :) ) but I'll try and model it off of the ammazzing stories rocket. The torpedo is a much nicer shape and the small rocket nozzels at the bottom is better than the big cone I've been using.

To be honest I'm not entirely sure on how to make the framing side of things up, but I need the practice :)
 
if you are going to change the shuttle you should change the map as well.

The original shuttle seems to be on a broken road for the lauching, so you got to change that as well..
 
Not sure if thats in the scope of what we are doing with this patch, I dont really want to start editing maps or scripts. I would rather just change a few Proto files to use the new art, the odds of having a conflict with any other mod is dramaticaly reduced if we dont edit maps or create new protos, but other than that I see your point...

Okay, here's the basic shape of the new rocket, it's a lot more torpedo shaped than the first one and I've ditched the pointy bit on the end. The thruster will be a straight tube rather than a cone and I'll try to get a more uniform shape on the fins. At this stage I'm not sure if it should have 4 fins or 3. If you look closely at the book cover you will see that it has a small rocket on each fin as well, I'm not sure if I like that, what do the rest of you think, should the rocket have a booster on each fin?

 
I think it looks too much like an upside-down raindrop, you might want to model a bit after an airship's balloon-thingy. (I forget what it's called, I know it's not the gondola)
 
You mean a zepplin? I've added the fins now and smoothed out the model now, so it looks a lot better. The modek itself was a lot easier than the last one, i must be learning something :) I'm not sure how to draw the beams or the 'ribs' of the ship yet though, I'll have to figure that out later I guess.

 
No, that's also known as an airship, or blimp, as some US citizens like to call it. Or, look at the ship from Futurama. Just stretch the top of the ship a little, and it should look better. Think more of a missile than a raindrop. :P

Exactly. Well, not the very crazy turret from the Futurama ship, but those have what I'm thinking of. Especially that 'Rocket' one.
 
Okay, I've made teh nose a bit longer and sharper now, and I must admit it does look a lot better.

 
An interesting idea would be to sink the rocket into a hole in the ground. This could be filled with engineers, iron bars, debris, a couple of cranes maybe.

Then, on the ground floor, something like scaffolding up one side of the rocket with people on there.

This would really build on the illusion that it's still been worked on.

I like the idea of altering the spaceship in the game. It would also be great to see the inside of the ship as well.
 
We may have to branch off some of this discussion into a new thread - it seems that once the rocket is completed as part of the Graphics Update Patch that a new mod to radically change the map the spaceship lives on is wanted or needed - depending on your point of view.
