FOnline: 2238 Developers Video #1

after a bit I see that the whole get-tools-and-pay-later-or-die-if-not is flawed, since one guy could just pass the tools to his mate, who then kills him and share the tools and money between each other...

so, a way over it is to put a NPC at the entrance to a mine/hangar/factories etc. that one needs to talk to to get into the area + optionally ask for the tool or materials to work with. When leaving the area one would have to talk to the the guy at the exit, who would take it away, or let you have it for X amount of stuff or whatever you were supposed to do. So, no tool in your inventory, no way of getting out and probably having you're ass kicked.

Oh, and by the way, in case someone missed it:

the second video is out and it shows a bit of crafting etc. so it would be probably good to carry on in the new topic.

The tool isn't generally as important as your skills or your profession. Since you can't steal skills or a profession off someone and the tools are generally readily available anyway, I'm not sure I understand.

are they so readily available? NPCs give them out for free or you can just find them in the desert or sth?

I'm just worried that a loner-type vanilla characters (both 1st level chars and reincarnating old-timers) might find it impossible to get a hold of some of those tools/objects.

If you:

- don't have a mate or a gang that will give you them,
- don't have the money to buy them,
- don't have other items for exchange,
- don't have the weapons to fight for them...

... then how can you possibly get them, besides pure luck or stealing? Sell your kidney?

Therefore, I was advising having NPCs that can employ you (in a way it is just a repetitive quest), to give players a way of using his/hers skills to get those objects and potentially earn some little start-up cash and feed in some items into the game world at the same time. This should also fit into the lore and make the whole world look more alive. Of course, a sneaky and strong unarmed chars or members of big gangs wouldn't have to bother about it at all.

Than again, I speak from a perspective of a person who played the first beta and who joined a day or two after opening, thus the only way I could get any item was to stumble upon a dead body from which someone didn't bother taking all the loot.

Hopefully, it will be different in OB3, but still I haven't seen anything that would convince me that this is not the case anymore. I'm afraid that it will be quite common to see people wasting a lot of time on looking for tools getting the right minerals and getting killed before you even find a workbench and starting vanilla again...

EDIT: typos

Hm. What about random encounters with stuff lying on the ground? What I have on mind this time? Little feature which (imho) doesn't need many scripts at all :P
Just imagine the situation where you're lucky enough to step on some rusted car with skeleton while travelling through wastelands. No enemies - just some totally random things this "guy" had with him. It could be everything. Books, stims, various items, weapons, junk, minerals you can use for crafting, armors or even machines without fuel. More luck you have = bigger % chance that you'll find your little El Dorado. Something like "chests" in other mmos ;) But of course those should be very rare. 0,5-1%chance tbh. Most things are already scavanged, aye? ;>
It was just an example. IMO this kind of thing adds something to the gameplay.
I'm looking forward to see something like this in future of this project ^&^

Well

With 4% barter a sledgehammer is $46, a hatchet is $31 and a knife is $30

Something like 1 golden gecko pelt can buy you all 3.

Of course a much better idea is to store stuff or bank money, so you're only starting from nothing once.

Something like a 1 golden gecko was normally tearing my beautiful vault 13 suit into pieces, together with my flesh ;] if fists were all I had to fight it off....

... but I think I know what you're trying to say. I hope that it is easier to get such stuff than in the first beta!

i just hope i will not
spent all the time of the beta/game
being killed by NPCs or other human players....
( the previous beta was somehow un-playable IMHO )

Instead i wish to make some real and fun RolePlaying Game
to enjoy the Fallout world....

:D
