baha, anyone who is against stoner culture or Marijuana usage should seriously reconsider listening to 85 percent of the musicians they listen to.

Where did "85 percent" come from?

I listen to a lot of black, death, and power metal. Stoner subculture and Marijuana usage is nonexistent in the bands I listen to.

Thank you all the same for reminding me of my hatred for Sludge/Stoner metal. :P

Happy for your friend, DEA agent or regular cop working the beat I plan on punishing them to the full extent of the law.
Then again who knows, maybe I will end up loving military life and make a career out of that.

Cause they have their alcohol and/or cocain just like techno their extasy.

You can say what you want. But every music genre has its "prefered" drugs :P

@Bal-Sagoth, not Crni

Not really.

Please, tell me about the bands you listen to, though. I'm certain that the people in them have never, ever, injested thc or that old mary juana at any point in their lives, nor have they been inspired by or positively affected by anyone who has.

God, you're a goober.

I did not said the bands you particularly listen to has to directly use drugs. But there are definetly a lot of drugs around in the music buisness. For many song writters they are a inspiration for the songs just like love or emotions in general.

In techno/electronic the use of chemicals is relatively widespread, in rock alcohol and cocain.

(mind you, I am a bit ironic. Of course its not thaaaat terrible. But again drugs and fame are definetly extremly close to each other ...)

*edit
Oh some of the bads/artists I listen to. Well

Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Louis Armstrong, Mason Williams, Patsy Cline and a few more. Well not everyone a drug addict, but even Louis Armstrong was known for his alcoholic problems.

I was more or less referring to the lyrical content and style of music. Hence why I said I dislike Stoner/Sludge metal. It is of no concern to me if the artist abuse alcohol and use recreational drugs. The themes of the bands I enjoy do not promote it and so it does not bother me.

So I suppose I should also go down a list and start knocking off my favorite authors and actors who have smoked pot but do not promote it in the work they do?

Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, Bal-Sagoth, 1349, Bolt Thrower, Sabaton, Burzum, Helloween, Bathory. Do I really need to go on?

None of said bands promote stoner subculture. If I said I listened to a band like Electric Wizard you would have a point.

now tell me that there is not a single person from this list who's work you don't appreciate in some way, that could have been(even if in some small way) influenced by pot usage.

Hell even Chris barnes, original lead singer of cannibal corpse and singer of Six feet under, wrote a song with marijuana references in it.

Black sabbath, pretty much one of the grandfathers of all metal. Had a song called Sweet leaf, and consistantly referenced drug use in their albums.

although I do like your choice of power metal.

:D

As I said before if they do it privately and do not support it or the subculture to a noticeable extent in the work they do it does not bother me.

Black Sabbath has quite a few songs about drugs iirc. As sacrilegious as it might sound tho coming from a metalhead, I am not a huge fan. It is not for the drug reason either, I am just not a big Doom metal fan. Type O Negative and My Dying Bride are the only two I listen to on a regular basis. Although Type O is more Goth with Doom influence it is still there. :P

And yes Power Metal is a great subgenre. It is a shame the first thing people think these days when they hear the name is Dragonforce.

Edit: Also on target with the Washington stuff.

I was aware he grew it but I cannot find much info on it that is not biased towards some sort of agenda. Do you have any good sources that are not jaded?

As a farmer, Washington grew marijuana on his farm and promoted it's growth. (In the 1790s, the crop was grown mainly for its industrial value as hemp and for soil stabilization. It was many years later that the recreational and illegal use of marijuana became popular.

Depends on what you describe as "many", I have definitely slacked since highschool that is for sure. Alcohol was by far the most encountered at all of my concerts. The only one I have been to that I recall seeing several people with weed was Nine Inch Nails.

Regardless that does not mean much. Just because patrons in the crowd use recreational drugs does not mean the band promotes the culture.

Goober, you're a goober.

Also, I haven't been to a concert where I couldn't at least smell pot.
But don't worry, I'm sure you'll be trained to smell the reefer like a goddamn bloodhound, buddy.

Hey Bal, I've drank with Pete Steele and found out that he is hardcore coke head. Which wasn't that big of a surprise since he write lyrics about drug abuse.

Also, I knew penalty of people who listen to power metal when their high.

As I'm getting older I'm learning to appreciate pot a lot more. Pretty sure its going to be legal soon, in California you only get fined if you are caught. In New York, they make you go to rehab.

That I have no doubt.

I am not surprised about Peter Steele at all :P. Type O is still a damn good band regardless.

As long as a band does not advocate the use of weed or glorify the culture to a noticeable level it really does not bother me. I could care less what the fans do, I am sure you could find drug users within every musical circle.

Who cares if Bal is against "stone" subculture or not.

Like i said, its not like its going to make a diference, we still consuming. :P

That's cool, I had beers with Glen Danzig and Rob Zombie (separate occasions) long ago.

I am not surprised about Peter Steele at all Razz. Type O is still a damn good band regardless.
They're probably better because of it, not despite it. Wouldn't be the first band to write more inspired music whilst high.

Do you not read Poe or look at Van Gogh paintings either?

Well that is open to speculation. As I said before, if the lyrical themes do not promote it than it does not bother me.

Not a huge admirer of Poe and definitely not Van Gogh. I am however a big fan of H.P. Lovecraft. Consider H.P. was largely influenced by Poe you could make the connection that his work would be vastly different.

None of that really bothers me tho. It is the culture surrounding the drug and the mentality of the stoners I have personal experience with that grind my gears.

without Absinth I guess there would be less pictures from Picasso. Art and drugs go if one beliefs it or not sometimes hand in hand.

None of that really bothers me tho. It is the culture surrounding alcohol and the mentality of the alcoholics I have personal experience with that grind my gears. That's why we need to restart prohibition.

I'm not serious about restarting prohibition, but it does emphasize the point that alcohol can be harmful and yet we still make it legal for a reason. There are too many otherwise law-abiding citizens that use alcohol and would pay good money for it even if it were illegal. That's why in the U.S. the 1920's saw an incredible rise in organized crime. It was because breaking the law became really good business with high profit margins and a broad customer base.

That's why we should legalize marijuana. Since the beginning of 2009 there have been over 200 deaths in the Mexican border town of Juarez. That's because drug traffickers are willing to kill and die for the chance to make lots of money. There is plenty of violence and larceny that makes it to the U.S. side of the border. How many otherwise law-abiding citizens are giving chunks of their paychecks to indirectly finance murder? How many would rather just go to their government authorized local marijuana outlet and buy what they use at a much discounted and heavily taxed price?

I still think it should be regulated. Only a few farms under strict security should be allowed to produce. People should only be able to use at their own or a friend's home. And driving under the influence should still be illegal. But when you can take all that money that is currently going to murderers and with the signing of a law have it go to U.S. businesses and tax revenue, shouldn't that at least be an option to consider?

And before you think I am just saying this because I am a stoner, think again. I have never tried marijuana and I am about as straight edge as they come.
