"Game Dev Shitlists"

Not interested in anyone, really

Nintendo - awfully clinging to the past with most popular franchises and lost many of NES/SNES classics. Besides, emulators do actually exist, so reason to bother.

Sony - shit hardware that goes off pretty quickly. PS4 is too loud in any AAA title, like a shitty laptop. Publishing questionable games passing as "exclusives" and letting 3rd party devs be lazy. PS Vita is buried for no good reason.

Square Enix - Final Fantasy always was a shit tier, really. That Mankind Divided fiasco counts in too.

EA/Bethesda - these ones became self-explainatory memes.

Obsidian - never really liked anything post-FNV anyway.

CD Project RED - nah, this story with a good ending, they have accomplished their The Witcher mission, even though TW3 is a bit off title in some aspects. Cyberpunk 2077 unlikely even start on my PC so I don't need even pirating that.

After 7th console generation, gaming pretty much gone downhill.

At BJ, I want to add on the Anita bit that Josh Sawyer backed her videos at one point. Although I don't think it went further than just giving her money.

So, like thousands of others, he got conned. (Never knew he did. That's disappointing.)

I want ME:A to be good.

But it won't.
The moment they revealed AN ANCIENT EVIL I lost all interest (what little I had). Simply exploring a new galaxy and learning about the politics of new races, making new friends, that kind of thing would've been perfect. It doesn't need ANOTHER ancient evil plot ffs.

Not that I'd buy it anyway, for the reasons stated by others; Bioware is a nest of SJWs these days, not supporting that sort of regressive crap.

Out of curiosity, what is your issue with Obsidian?

I probably will pick up Mass Effect as given all the issues people have with Bioware, I still enjoy the ME series.

But saying that, I was more interested in the political side of things.
The only way this could work is if the threat occurs half way through and the political group you've spent hours putting together and finding peace are all of a sudden thrown into inner conflict on how to deal with the threat.

Alas, I doubt bioware will do that as people would complain that there isn't enough action.

Like others say I usually just avoid series in particular rather than Devs.
Call of Booty
Battlefield
Asscreed
GTA (and all it's clones)
Farcry
Borderlands
Telltale games
Halo

Let's see:
Bethesda Games Studios (games published by Softworks may fall out of the ambit of this shitlist)
Ubisoft
EA (including EAware games)
Gearbox (Pitchford needs to pay even if the people in the company are not entirely to blame)
Konami (obvious reasons is obvious plus they don't make games anymore)

Honestly, I usually avoid series rather than devs though the above can contribute to whether I even retain interest or not.

Same here. The minute ancient evils was mentioned, any interest I had in the game vanished. Why couldn't the game be about trying to adapt to a new galaxy and exploring this new frontier instead of being another Bioware story (like all their games)? Even MrBTongue mentions how that concept could feasibly make for a decent game for the series:

Yeah, saw his video the day he put it up, pretty much nailed my thoughts on it.

Really the only developers I respect completely are Nintendo and Obsidian. That doesn't mean every other developer is shit tier but they've all done something or another that makes me wary about buying their products. With Nintendo and Obsidian it's instant buy for me usually.

@0wing Except they aren't though. Really the only series I can think of where they refuse to change the formula outside of minor things would be the "New Super Mario Brothers" series of games. Those are very formulaic and repetitive. However their other games change a lot with each new installment. Pokemon Sun & Moon for example is so fun right now. Nintendo's actually shaking up their formula a lot lately. Sun & Moon feels less like the usual Pokemon RPG formula and feels almost open world-ish. By that I mean you don't feel pressured to simply race from 1 town to the next just to get to the next gym, there's reasons to explore now besides trinkets, such as quests and minigames. There's also things like uncapturable creatures that are used for boss battles, factions, mutations of older pokemon, and other things that really make it stand out from previous installments.

Breath of the Wild is going to be their first true open-world Zelda game with all the bells and whistles that entails, and that alone makes me a very happy boy. Really the closest thing to a truly open world Zelda before this, in my mind, would be Wind Waker.

Tyranny just came out by Obsidian and I think it's fantastic. Considering I'm in college right now it's nice to have a game I feel like I can reasonably sit down and play a full session of in 40 hours or so. Then I can replay it again just to see what changes. Choices really do matter this time. I locked myself out of an entire quest line in the game because I made one part of the country too peaceful with my actions as an example, lol. It made it so the rebels never actually showed up or gained any power in the area so the quest line there was basically already resolved. It's things like that that really make each playthrough feel unique. Sure you're going to the same locations each time but with the choices you make in the Conquest section and who you side with, those locations could be very very different.

I hope Playtonic Games won't be shit tier. It's basically comprised of all the guys who used to work at Rareware Studios and made classics such as Banjo Kazooie and Conker's Bad Fur Day. They're making something called "Yooka Laylee" which should come out next year I believe, and it looks promising, like what Banjo Three-ie should have been. My nostalgia glasses are too heavy right now. Grant Kirkhope is doing the music for crying out loud.

The absolute bottom of my shit tier would have to be Bethesda though just because of how many decent series they've ruined now. 3 by my count.

Can we please talk about this?
Assassin's Creed 2 "Remaster"

Anyone that hasn't already better be adding Ubisoft to their list.

Simply exploring a new galaxy and learning about the politics of new races
No no no that would be bad. Anything Bioware these days is filled with stupidity, they just want to tell you what they want you to think.

Mine would be:

-Bethesda
-Gearbox
-Beamdog
-Ubisoft
-Anything with political correctness
-Anything that includes people like Anita

More that I can't think of off the top of my head.

There are exceptions of course but I generally stay away from Ubisoft, EA, Bethesda, Konami, Bioware and Capcom unless I can buy them used or acquire them through other means. My reliable developers are Obsidian, Nintendo, Paradox, and some lesser known ones like Klei Entertainment. Square is on my shit list due to FF13, but I'll give them one last shot with FF15. Fuckers need to bring back Vagrant Story and the Mana series goddammit.

Series that I now stay away from:

Call of Duty
Assassins Creed
Battlefield
Uncharted
Gears of War
Halo
Mass Effect
Dragon Age
Sonic
Elder Scrolls

And I'm really trying to forget about Fallout and Resident Evil.

Which is why I said I already had basically no interest even before they revealed the ancient evil :) Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me to see a race of gender fluid fluffy unicorns in the new galaxy, that's about the level I expect from Bioware these days, lol.

I want ME:A to be good.

But it won't.

I really want to like it, but I can't help but feel like Bioware is shilling out and inserting softcore, romantic subplots into their games.

Feels like they're also more interested in race/gender issues in their fucking games rather than the actual gameplay. Fuck me.

Reapers 2.0?

So is Sheppard the main protagonist again or (Mass Effect 3 and Max Payne 2 ending details below)

Are they leaving him dead? If they are, it reminds me of Max Payne 2 wherein after you beat the game on the highest difficulty you get a secret addition to the main ending where you see Max's girlfriend actually survives instead of dying like in all the other endings, but then it gets retconned in the 3rd game and she's not mentioned period. I hope they don't go with that, I hate games that bring a character back to life in some "secret ending" and then it's never addressed in sequels

Mona actually gets mentioned in the third game. Max says that the whole Mona business was just grief but it did help him move on. Granted Mona surviving only happens on the highest difficulty so I presume they went with her dying since having to play the game three times just to get the proper ending would be irritating.

Bioshock and their devs is the biggest thing i can think of that i'll avoid as the plague
GTA/Saints Row/Crime Sandboxes and the like: ZZZZzzzzZzzzzZZzzZzzz

Valve: Learn to count to 3 and stop making trading cards please
Bethesda: Can't miss them

Nintendo as dev and publisher is the last member of the "Console Triad" i respect, they release their games complete and are open about things like DLC and editions, and make actual consoles instead of disguised shitty PCs. Their franchises have been treated well across the years, something that can't be said for most of the industry
Most of their catalogue is great, it could use more IPs though.

Of course, 2D platformer Mario is in creativity lockdown, but it is the mascot of the company and they really don't want to do a Sonic on it.
