Gas Prices Skyrocket

Why the Hell is Ann Coulter in your sig Kharn?

Hey, don't take it the wrong way, Lauren, you're still my number one squeeze.

Heh. Squeeze.

However, despite the fact that I really, really hate Ann Coulter, that quote is still one of the funniest things I've read in eons. Sorry, it's just damn funny 'cause...uhm...y'see...she's making fun of liberals who...are women?

Ok, it'll be gone soon enough

It was even funnier watching two guys thinking they are "hardcore" run up on stage and then miss TWICE throwing pies at point blank range then run away in shame.

Great topic people...great job Member of Khans...you really showed some eye-popping facts.

In any case I have to agree that public transportation in the USA is shit. Rural areas have none and cities barely support themselves with it.

I lived in Los Angeles and walked to the majority of the places I visited. Sometimes I would take the bus to a faraway place, but driving was unnecessary. Here in rural Pennsylvania you CANT get around without a car. Sadly due to crappy road construction and poor weather you also need...an SUV.

Well not really I had a Mercury Sable that did just fine as long as you kept conscious of the conditions and kept the car in fine condition. Of course Ive heard people talk and they say you shouldnt leave the house in bad weather UNLESS you have a truck or suv.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

And when I say America, I mean North America, which is to say I generally throw Canadia (sic) into that mix as well. So don't think I left you guys out in factoring in how screwed we really are for transportation. ;)

Notice the economy line vehicle prices have skyrocketed? EVERY major automobile company is in the works of producing or correctly predicted this whole mess and are releasing economy line hybrid cars. Lexus is releasing a good-looking hybrid SUV in the next few months. I think this whole gas price issue is a blessing in disguise. This will force Americans to think of mass transit economy line vehicles and more importantly alternate fuel sources. Or we could of course just go the Bush route; drill the oil out of Alaska further screwing up our planet.
There are some extremists claiming the sudden removal of that oil reserve will be the final blow to our all ready fragile planet. That the removal will cause the crust to shift. They claim the Pacific Ring of fire's massive amount of recent activity; is a clear sign that things are starting to destabilize.

Well, I guess it IS better to have high gas prices to speed the development of alternative energy before oil runs out for real.

Meh. I'm not worried. However those of you who for some reason don't like Hummers or other big vehicles, don't hold your breath for them to dissapear; recent studies indicated that gas prices would have to top $5.00/Gallon (All U.S.) for interest in them to even begin to take a hit. Car effeciency has gone up by leaps and bounds in recent years; My regular car is a 17 foot long, two and a half ton land yacht that gets 19MPG city, 30MPG highway. The city mileage especially is better than many smaller cars! I only have to fill it every ten days or so.

Ann Coulter can be mind-numbingly stupid at times but she does have a razor wit and she's good to look at, so I tend to tollerate her in general. That said, I tollerate many, many people whose politics differ from mine...

I agree on all acounts, Lord. Although I've read one of Anne Coulter's 'books' and was not impressed at anything but her ability to hyperbole and rant. And factis people who drive hummers don't care about gas prices, only the fact that they have a small penis.

Attention all Americans:
Quit bitching about gas prices until you have to pay $3.41 per gallon like people in Canada do. I live in a city where you HAVE to drive if you want to get around efficently, because the public transit is a joke and my city is LA-style suburban sprawl, so don't give me the "OMG you can just take transit where you live!"

Also: link!
Forget the exchange rate?

*sigh* Cost me thirty dollars to fill my Jetta. It'll last me almost two weeks though.

And don't bitch about us americans. I've never owned a vehicle that got less than 30mpg. Even my Oldsmobile got just over 30, small V-6 had little power, and since it was a convertable it was heavy as hell, but still got over 30mpg.

Americans bitching about gas prices is like North Polians (sic) bitching about warm summers.

Nuff said.

My buddy Mike was bitching my ear off today since I borrowed my dad's Chevy Suburban to move his furniture. The Suburban's very good on gas when placed against other vehicles in its class. (We got around 19MPG overall today, including lots of back roads with a sofa on the roof shooting the drag coefficient to Hell). 'Course he drives a Honda that gets like 35/45 MPG... but not everything can do that; The Civic seats 4 in relative comfort, 5 in agony; and carrys a little bit of stuff. The Suburban seats 6 in excellent comfort and 8 in more than acceptable comfort, can tow 7,500 pounds (other models can tow 10,000), carry 1,500 pounds, etc, etc, etc. Unlike most Hummer owners, my dad actually uses the Suburban to its capacity with frequency, and with its ability to seat 8, it's far more practical than a Hummer.

Do you all have manuals? My 92 Legacy does not get anywhere NEAR 30MPG. In fact a brand new Subaru anything gets 26MPG. So I do not understand how a heavy Olds gets better gas mileage than my set up.

That figure about gas prices reaching 5.00$ a gallon to effect suv/oversized truck sales seems wrong. Gas prices affect people’s wallet big time. Not everyone owning gas hogs are upper class.

Lord, why the hell was your friend bitching at you for using a truck to move his furniture? What the hell is he going to use his Honda?

3 years removed from my car, same engine and driveline. Newer ones have traded a highway mile for a city mile... they now get 20 City, 29 Highway. Having a well geared transmission with an overdrive makes a HUGE difference. The Buick (why do people mistake it for an Oldsmobile? This happens a lot!) has an overdrive. It also regularly gets green-screened by Mass inspection (That's a term that means that the car, as a model-year, is so clean that unless something is amiss, they're allowed to pass through emissions. I've only been tested for emissions once in five years).

Mike just likes his little car that sips gas like a miser. He wasn't ungrateful, though, for helping him move his sofa, his bureau, his desk, his dining room table, and his book cases all in one go. Oh yeah and a fishtank full of hampsters. He had in fact been trying to carry stuff down on the Honda, including his full-size mattress and boxspring.

ahh I never said you had an olds lord. Read Dove's posts. Although the posts were conflicting they were nonetheless informative.

Aha. Dove must have the 3800 MKI engine in there, if it has "little power". The 3800 MKII is quite a boost, I believe around 20 HP. I get 205, the same as my 1984 Corvette gets from a V-8! There's now the 3800 MKIII, which is the one powering the GMs that get 20/29MPG.

Bitchen, maybe dove did have that engine... Then again Dove say, "Even my Oldsmobile got just over 30, small V-6 had little power, and since it was a convertable it was heavy as hell, but still got over 30mpg."
