Splinter Cell Conviction

Are the Splinter Cell games anything like the Hitman games? Never played one but the latest sure looks good and a bit gritty.

I've mainly played Splinter Cell Conviction and I wouldn't say it's very much like the Hitman games. sure, it's a stealth action game, but you have very little freedom in how to go about completing the missions. and you don't have to disguise yourself and watch out for civilians etc. it's much more of a straight action game based around stealth. and from what I gather, Conviction in particular is even more action-oriented than the older games.

I did enjoy it a lot, but I found it to be a bit too streamlined and simple. it's fun enough and you can do some fun things with stealth, but the AI was rubbish, the controls are very clumsy and the game pretty much holds your hand from start to finish. it's very easy and way too short. think MW2 with stealth.

In my opinion the third in the series was the peak. 4th was bad and conviction... well... Its shit.

Left 4 Dead 1 & 2, strangely addictive when you're playing with good people. If you haven't played it and wanna give it try, go for the first game - it is far more engaging than number 2.

Jagged Alliance 2 v1.3, some really good changes made in this mod. Almost anything can be adjusted, so you can turn off what you don't like fairly easily.

That's pretty much common knowledge. Only first three games are really worth playing. You can have some fun with 4 and 5 but they don't live up in any way. Conviction isn't even a stealth game anymore, it's a third person shooter. You can't even hide bodies.

Thanks I'll stick to the Hitman and Thief series for my stealth-murder needs :)

edit: "Hitman 5 is in the works; according to the Square Enix team and is due for release late in the fourth quarter of 2010." :D

I think you should still play SC: Chaos Theory at least. It's fun playing it without killing, although you can stealth-murder all you want if you choose so, except maybe in few instances. Conviction has nothing on this game.

yea, Chaos Theory was a great stealth game.

I finally grabbed PS3 and am playing MGS4. I'm playing on hard but still find it way too easy. Going for no kills.

First boss was simple as hell, and you can just shoot your way through any area. Too many health packs/rations/regenerating health. I like the added features though, just wish more sneaking.

Every stealth game should have a non-tranquilizer gun mode. It heightens the tension by billions :D Unfortunately, i don't have the willpower needed to voluntarily disregard a super gun.

Just finished Alpha Protocol, mediocre console shooter..read about that it is comparable to deus ex, but..phahaha, what a joke.

the only award it can win is for the most cheatriddled yet boring ending

You're just mad that he said the game sucks, which it does.

Gex 2.

I had rented it many times when it first came out, but never beat it, so that's what I'm going for now.

This is one of the only games I've played that has genuinely made me laugh.

Console isn't, but 'Console Shooter' absolutely is. You don't need to white-knight consoles every time they're brought up, you know.

I don't know, RE4, RE5 and Dead Space are "console shooters" too and I quite liked those, especially RE4.
Console FPS games do tend to suck though.

Civ 4 - I never grow tired of it.

Nikopol - The Secret of the Immortals (if I remember correctly) - cool puzzlegame from a Steam sale that has got a brilliant artist behind the artwork.

Dragon Age - Origins (I think this game is quite hard to be honest - I have trouble with money and with healing potions ... Am using tactics alot ond pause frequently to give orders etc, but still struggle. At level 13 now. Love the game by the way)

Sid Meier's Colonization - oh yes - the original - not the Civ 4 mod. Still love it.

I only played re4 and ds, and both had horrible controls..not really the best examples ;)
