General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

I've just gone right off Halo, I hate the way your weapons get reset between levels. I could accept it when you were traveling conventionally between areas but I've just been transported to the Library and found my shotgun has been replaced with a pistol. Not fun when there's a load of big new alien baddies in your face.

Oof, I'd forgotten about the Library. That's probably the most painful area in the game to work through. I remember finding a rocket launcher and a shottie and using those to mow my way through most of it. Can't fault you for not liking it though; that one area is more work than fun. Doesn't help having to listen to Guilty Spark's irritating babble all the way through either.

The pistol works fairly well against Flood though... just don't try using the sniper rifle or any Covenant weaponry.

It wasn't the library I didn't like, I played it for barely 30 seconds at the most. What I didn't like was my shotgun magically turning into a pistol. It's one thing for your weapons to get reset in a believable manner say when you are one a transport loaded with spares. You might just take the time to rearm and resupply. But when you are teleported by an alien creature, when and where did the Master Chief have time to drop the shotgun and pick up a pistol?

That's got nothing to do with the age of the game or the platform it was developed for, it's just bad design.

Ah well the shop was doing a 2 for offer, so now onto Jade Empire.

Agreed, but it's not a huge thing. You really don't want to play it anymore because of it?

I'm currently playing DominateGame, a 2 MB-version of the old time classic Risk. Simple, yet entertaining.

What do you mean it's not huge? It's massive, there I am confident that I can take out these large new aliens with my trusty shotgun and it's not there. I tab to change weapons and come up with a stupid pistol and die.

That's annoying as hell and a total immersun breaker.

Jade Empire, looks beautiful but I can't seem to get my head around the combat.

On to new things!

Due to massive bordem I have picked up the 7 day free trial of Lord of the Rings Online.

The game really isn't that bad, I think it gets a bad rap for being "too much like WoW". Lets face it, most MMO's are going to be like WoW and WoW was just a refinement of EQ.

Class options and story are more interesting than most MMOs and PVP looks like it will be fun.

If you can suffer through the 3 gig download give the trial a shot. The servers are actually just populated enough so you can get a group when you need without being so croweded you can't get a spawn.

Nothing new at all really. Played Stalker, big disappointment (buggy, not the big free roaming environments that where promised.....)
Tried Bioshock, got bored after a couple of hours, expected so much more.
But it has been like this for a couple of years, maybe I should not expect to enjoy new games anymore. A bit depressing since I really did like -good- games until a couple of years ago.

Of course I do play and still enjoy the great classics (fallout 1 fallout 2 ,syndicate wars, and the good old dungeon keeper 2)

I have been playing The Legend Of Zelda : Twilight Princess and I love it.

Soldat with my mods: Wunderwaffe 1946, Wunderwaffe 1950, Wunderwaffe 1975 and Wunderwaffe 1980.

Finished playing the Neverwinter Nights 2 expansion. I'm extremely impressed. It's without a doubt one of the best story-based RPGs I've played (might be second only to PS:T in fact), much much better than the NWN2 OC.
Great writing and story.

Obsidian finally got it right. Thank god my RPG starved soul finally got something nice to comfort it. I'm actually gonna replay NWN2+the expansion right now. While I still feel the NWN2 OC is mostly average, designing a build for levels 1-30 makes it pretty fun anyways.

Still can't tear myself away from the TF2 beta.
A couple of the maps are absolute tripe, coming down to stalemates or scout rushes most of the time (Granary & Well), and 2fort needs some tweaking considering it was originally made with grenades in mind, but other than that, it's 24 carat gold.

Massive Assault Network 2 multiplayer, Age of Wonders 1 multiplayer, LotRO, and the Galactic Assault demo.

Almost done with BioShock, started playing Sanitarium. One of the most twisted and disturbing games I've ever had the chance to play. And I like it.
