General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

i do not know why, but i have been playing Towns a ton lately.

its a pretty horrible java game, but with a few mods its a great time waster.
I had buy it but regret to buy it. any suggestion to make it more fun?

Ack all this sweet Guard talk's giving me the urge to reinstall Retribution, upgrade Lord Commissar to power fist for maximum punchings.

Playing a fair bit of Company of Heroes, 2v2 with guys I know but was kinda one sided as the two on the other team were kinda new.
Then again being swamped by Panzer Elite scout cars is a new and interesting experience.

Oh and Sword of the Stars: The Pit. I likes casual roguelikes and SotS is an interesting place to slowly die in.

I actually disslike IG in DOW 2. The heroes feels so out of place and you pretty much let them sitt back and leech xp if you compare to other races :P The baneblade is crap = me no like

well, here are the edits i do:

make bows have range 8+
containers hold 50
remove bird req for boots of haste
change wood beds to happiness 50
make it so i only get elves and knights
make sure heroes can equip metal
change plantedwheatseedling to max age of 5
update LOS for hero/citizens to 13
change all blocks to "mine" in 1 turn
up the % for non stone blocks to 99
change stone blocks to 20%
change minecarts to work on gold/silver

The Commissar can very well hold his own in melee, thank you very much. Put a Bionic Eye on him, shoot a Devils squad, and laugh as shit starts to die. Or if you get to T3 get his Op wargear as you a-move your mass of invincible Guardsmen. He's one of my favourite heroes in the game.

The Baneblade only sucks compared to its ridiculously OP DOW1 iteration. It still almost one shots tanks, and only dies to heavy melee, but if you have a Baneblade you should have an Ogryn squad to keep Nobz and such off its back.

The Commissar is the only one I roll with due to the aforementioned close combat skillage as explained by Ilosar. He's basically my go to guy when things need punchins rather than shootins as even Ogryn's are crap(ish) in that regard. I do prefer giving him the ability to execute enemies rather than his own men though as it shows even 'nids fear the Commissariat.
That and it's always funny seeing him run after Hive Tyrants in retreat.

Don't usually have the pop to support a Baneblade, I can't sacrifice my little Kriegers to make room for one, I just can't.

I'm just impressed by a guy in full dress uniform with a saber going solo against a mob of battle-crazy ape-men twice his size, or a squad of chaos-fueled power armored supersoldiers, and winning. That is the very definition of what the Imperial Guard is.

Also, Heart of the Swarm has an even better campaign than Wing of Liberty. Helps that they kept the cheese to a minimum (for a Blizzard game) and that the Zerg and Kerrigan are just stright up more interesting than Raynor and his gang of goodie two-shoes stereotypes. And of course sending hundreds after hundreds of Zerglings to overwhelm those silly Protoss never gets old.

Slowly building up my base and trying to hold 3 positions.. Getting hammedred by 2 computers at once.. All units dead or dying and base under attack.. Baneblade + 2 leman rus ready! Fuck you space marines! >:D Game won!

"Ready to unleash eleven barrels of hell!"

No sweeter sound than that (except for an incoming Basilisk artillery barrage).

Wish the games included Manticores.

In Apocalypse matches, though, all bets are off because there are no force organization restrictions. It's not uncommon to see a battery of thirty or more Manticores turn the battlefield into a moonscape on turn one. 120 Storm Eagles is the true meaning of pain.

I was impressed that some Carapace Armour is much stronger that power armor

No, that's actually the Badass Repulsion Field, generated by the sizable, titanic balls/ovaries carried by Imperial Guard leaders (and guardsmen themselves).

Yep, sod the marines who walk round in a adimantium bunker. The real men of the imperium are the men and women of the Guard who have little else but a Las rifle, a Combat knife and a copy of the imperial infantryman's uplifting primer.

Oh and a Baneblade is even better when playing a Apocalypse game and you have two of them, and with Creed on the tabel you can kiss that Chaos warhound good bye :)

The basilisk's special attack "Wait for it.. Wait for it... BOOM!" followed by a sadistic grin

Edit: The space marines got some awesome quotes to!
"I fear no evil, for I am fear incarnate!"
"By my fury they shall know the Emperor's name!
"Cleanse! Purge! KILL!"

And my own favorit!
"Space Marines, advance!"

Yeah, seriously. I've never trolled, griefed, or otherwise gone out of my way to intentionally upset people... EVER. That's just who I am; I see no point in trying to belittle someone for personal gain or amusement. If I do something offensive, it was to provoke them to think; if I insult someone, it's to illustrate a negative impression of themselves that they have left me. I always act with a purpose, which consequently means I'm very lethargic most of the time, because I'm otherwise completely reactionary, and not very proactive. But the internet phenomenon of using the safety net of anonymity to act childish and immature to one's own heart's content is something I simply raise an eyebrow at. It serves no purpose, to me. It's a self-indulgences that benefits nothing, so I don't understand why do it at all.

What do I do when I'm situations like you describe with players being lousy and asinine? I just stop helping them. My team-player instincts may still kick in on "autopilot" and I may help them anyway, but if possible, I'll try to avoid them. Does this mean I'll go out of my way to get them killed? No. Does this mean I'll announce their positions in All-Chat so they can get killed? No. Does this mean I'll do ANYTHING in the slightest that I would define as "griefing"? No. I find that behavior beneath me, hence "I'll take your word for it."

And I guess you're just being scathing towards the game because you don't like it, so if that's the case, there's really not much point in discussing it (with you) any further. That's just a cyclical beast, and there's no taming that. But really, in all honesty, the ARTS and MOBA community is NOT the worst on the net; they just have some of the worst people in them. You'll see the worst, but that hardly comprises the whole. I just found another (among many) DotA2 guides that addressed the issue of rudeness and people improperly attempting "constructive criticism" with respect to both teaching newbies and elevating the social standard of the game. These things aren't unheard of, they're just not sensational, so you don't generally hear about them. It's like the saying "The only good news is bad news"; of course it is, because it's catching, but that doesn't mean there isn't positive news to be found.

Mocking people in games is pretty straightforward because if people get mad about video games then they kind of deserve it. They also don't drop it and it's also incredibly, incredibly easy. You can grief basically any FPS by merely being good at the game. Dotalikes take this further, where you can grief (and be griefed) simply by playing the game. It's wonderful, really, though my preferred speed is EVE and convincing people to give me everything they own in return for nothing. Also, all self indulgences (like griefing) generally benefit the indulger by making them feel better, and generally others when they share these stories/videos/screen shots of people losing their shit over the littlest goddamn thing.

If people want to be extremely shitty and bitch and/or rage over the littlest of things; things a rational human being might consider jokes, rookie-ness, or just parts of the game that they are willingly playing and brush off like a normal person. If someone is going out of their way to harass me in a game, it's either a matter of returning fire, which is generally a bemusement for all involved, or I'm gonna fuck off and do something else with my time. Like rational people do, because rational people don't do the same thing over and over and over again (IE, sperging and ragin' in a game) thinking it will have a different result (like me suddenly stop fucking around and spontaneously becoming a seasoned veteran of a game I have no real interest in (because it's shit)).

And as a person who hangs around what are generally considered the worst people in games (goons) dotalikes do have the worst communities, as they are by and large unfriendly and uninteresting. Goons may swarm and be general dicks in most games they play together, but they're pretty hugely friendly internally and externally provided you're not being a cock and can take a joke and generally welcoming of newcomers. I've met friendlier people on Xbox Live or the PSN than I have in dotalikes, though I have admittedly less exposure to the dotalikes, but my friends' friends were still cocks about playing with a newbie, as were the strangers.

In the glory days of the 2nd edition when Sisters of Battle where more than Matt Ward rape fodder, the basalic was ideal long range arty. 3in pie plates for blast markers, and just chewed nids and ork units to bits the round before they come into heavy bolder an slugger range.

The last time I played (before the new rules so it may differ), they had to stay static and volly fire (2+ firing at the same target) to have the same effect.

Having said that my 2nd edition army was 37k points and each guardsman was free, and in school we used to play some collosil games. As part of the campaing when we had smaller games they where premapped out defensive / counter offensive for the next big game.

God I miss them days, hell we could use squats too before they got nixed in the 4th edition.

If any one is interested I have had a idea for the ultimate apoc game,

Battle of Terra, from start to finish all battles are put together from the HH series of books and short story's. No force org charts just pure unadulterated WAR...

And I am willing to put a to scale bridge of the Vengeful spirit together for the final battle.

Squats were essentially deaded in 3rd edition just not officially, however they are back in 6th as well as the return of mutant/abhuman regiments of Guard, at least in the fluff if not in models.
