General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

Arcanum trying out different character concepts. Does anyone remember where you find the schematic for the pyrotechnic axe?

Fallout 1, Donkey Kong Country 2, Whacked with a few friends ( what an awesome game ) and GTA 4.

I've got to say that GTA 4 is really awesome. Technically it is rather unimpressive, and even bad : terrible aliasing, aweful textures, HUGE clipping...But it still looks great because of the amount of details. Everything feels a lot more real and alive than San Andreas. I bet it feels a lot more alive than Fallout 3 and its radiant AI or a lot less retarded at least. The storyline is great and I think the "social possibilities" really add to the realism of the game ( because yes : GTA 4 is a lot more realistic than the previous episodes ). It has flaws and the hype was indeed exagerated but this is really counterbalanced by its qualities in my opinion.

i think the main technical problem with GTA is the ridiculous amount of texture pop-in and aliasing, but all in all the game is great. the branching story is very awesome, as well as rewarding, and the gameplay has been polished to a shine. it's easily my favorite of the series so far, and i do think it's one of the very best games in recent memory. the hype for it was tremendous, but i really don't think that that should be some sort of stain on the game itself. to me, hating a game solely because of the hype is like hating a band solely for their fans, and i find that to be pretty arrogant (unless we're dealing with juggalos or maggots or whatever they're called, who seem like they're completely brainwashed).it's not flawless, but not many games are, and it still offers a completely unique experience that surpasses the great amount of disappointing bile i've seen come out lately.

the multiplayer also reigns supreme in my book. pulling drive-by's in team deathmatch with a group of people hanging out of the windows is tremendously satisfying (although free-for-all is where it's at), and the amount of customization is ridiculous. i met someone online who tried to argue that the game has too many options for its own good, but i think that it's worth it in order to have a long-lasting experience. it most definitely succeeds at being the next generation of GTA.

I want to play it too :(

But I'm playing Assassin's Creed, and Hitman: Blood Money

^^^^

I have heard that train companies and drivers refused to assist with the development of that game as they feared that people with wrong intentions might use to learn how to drive a train. :D

I'm currently living in halls and my uni restricts a lot of traffic, blocking all sorts of ports and generally not allowing me much internet freedom so I'm stuck on single player games at the moment. COD4 & BF 2142 will be my primary loves over the summer when I'm home but at the moment its

Icewind Dale II
Baldurs Gate II
Deus Ex

NFS Underground
GRID Demo

Supreme Commander

I'm training hard at Winning Eleven 2008 (also know as Pro Evolution Soccer 2008); I play mini-tournaments with some friends every Sunday, and beating the crap out of them is great

Also, I'm playing Final Fantasy X and, of course, Warhammer 40.000: Dawn of War - Soulstorm Expansion.

Rail Simulator. Better than MSTS in every way, except there still aren't very many routes, locomotives etc for it. But it's awesome, particularly the fully 3d locomotive interiors.

ψ, Discworld, Starcraft, Planescape Torment & Dungeon Keeper II.
I'm wondering if it was really good idea to buy new PC just to play such old games :).

Ys Eternal.

<3 the combat system. HAHA! :D Seriously, it's brilliant, you just run into stuff and it dies. Oh the simplicity!

Assassin's Creed - still having problems when trying to play it like Prince of Persia (the whole jumping on enemies and running on walls stuff). Don't like the concept of it not being just a game about an assassin from the time of Crusades, but some lame story about genetic memory.
