really? so all this talk about crappy and non-configurable controls isn't true?

man, I'm really starved for fun games. there's definitely something wrong when re-playing Crysis for the third time is the most exciting thing to do. I actually love the game, but still...

Just got JA2. I've only just started the game, that computer/email/internet thing is awesome! And I haven't even started the 'real' game yet!

EDIT: Btw, is there any resolution patches for this game? The game looks a bit too blurred. Without getting the 1.13 patch that is, I've been recommended on playing the vanilla game first.

Crappy ? Not true as soon as you turn V-synch off and force it on through the control panel of your graphic card. Non-configurable controls : partly true. You cannot use the arrow keys. But then again it didn't bother me since I always use ZQSD instead. Other than this, Dead Space is awesome.

Don't know about the controls.I am playing the game with a xbox 360 controller. But the game runs quite smooth on my rig and looks beautiful. you should definitely start playing it.It's at least much more fun then Crysis i can guarantee you that 100% :D

I have to agree with others here, I'm really starving for good games to come out. Far cry 2 was fun, but repetitive. Fallout 3 started out good, but sucked in the end so I never finished it. Left4Dead was fucking awesome, but waaaay too short.

Tried out Dead space but it looked like a third person action game with horror elements, so meh.

Still waiting for Diablo 3 and, of course:

Empire: Total war. I really hope they fix AI and add some strategic depth in this installment. Navy battles seem really interesting.

I'm playing King of Dragon Pass in the free time at the moment, the game most of you guys probably know very well and appreciate. It overwhelmed me completely. If you want a game with consequences then I strongly recommend you to get this title as you can feel them even several years from your first decision.
Although the game is pretty old, its complexity, playability, replayability and immersion eats most of present productions on breakfast.

    that looks pretty cool.

still playing Crysis and a bit of WoW. think I'm gonna give Dead Space and Red Alert 3 a go after that.

I can not understand the praises dead space gets. design and graphic is nice, but the third person view is just horrible.

"No, you can't move around easily, we need you to see less and be slow, in order to make it harder. we know if you had first person you would beat this game in five seconds, thats why we force you to look at yourself and block 50% of the screen. oh and don't try to enter a room in a good way. nope, not gonna happen, you have no chance to enter it securely. just enter it and wait whats gonna happen."

    uhm..no.

completely agree. I finally got around to try it yesterday. I played for a little more than an hour and I like it so far. but the controls on pc are horrible to say the least. and while you get somewhat used to the camera, it's mostly just irritating. I love the interfaces though. the game looks promising and I'm probably gonna spend all weekend playing it.

Just beat Grim Fandango again today, boy that game has character. My Dad walked up to me playing it, and immediately recognized it. He said "Do people make these kind of games anymore? This looks so cool and funny!"

No Dad, no one makes adventure games anymore, because no one has the balls or the creatively to make one.

Is Dead Space getting any better? I just reached chapter 2 but I really don't see why you guy's praised it so much. Despite the camera/control thing the whole game seems to be a 100% railroadshooter. I feel more like in a movie than in a game, my skill doesn't seem to affect the game in any way. Is this getting better or is this just the gamestyle and I should stop playing?

Well, it sadly is very linear and if you don't care for that and have no interest in the story then you may as well stop playing.

um, if you already feel like that it's hard to say... the game definitely gets harder and requires you to plan ahead a little bit and use different tools to move forward. not wasting ammo, upgrading the right weapons, bringing enough items to keep you alive but not fill your entire inventory etc are all things you'll constantly need to think about.

it's not a very varied game though so if you don't like it one bit from the start I'm not sure you're gonna like it at all. personally I find it very entertaining and I get a helluva lot more System Shock 2 vibes from this game than I got from Bioshock. this is the spiritual successor if you ask me.

Well the story is interesting so far, but not enough to keep me playing. It might also get very cliche (Hi@Event Horizon). In addition I am a bit frustrated about some minor things, like the lack of weapons description. I just bought the assault rifle but the game refuses to tell me what kind of ammo I need or on what weapon I can use the plasma cells besides the starting weapon. I think I play till the next chapter and see if it alright with me. Don't have anything else to play sadly :/

Up to now (Chapter 7), none of the cliché twists I expected happened. But there's still time...

None. Every weapon has its own ammo and the drops depend on what weapons you carry. Because of that, it's smart to buy guns even if you don't plan on using them. Some ammo sells really well (Line Gun, Ripper, Contact Beam) so you can afford more Power Nodes to upgrade your favorites.

Ehm... while a better adventure than Grim Fandango wasn't done since then, there are still tons of adventure games still being made. Just look around, some are pretty good. I'd recommend one I've played recently, named The Experiment

It's mostly French and Germans who release adventure games these days, so yeah, they probably don't reach the Americas too often.

while I can see some logic in that, I would assume that also means you get less drops of ammo that you actually need. when I only had the Plasma Cutter and Flamethrower I had A LOT of ammo for both, especially the Plasma Cutter. now that I have bought two more weapons my ammo drops are very spread out and I'm always tight on ammo for every weapon.

also, for me money hasn't been an issue at all. I think I have close to 80k credits at the moment and I have bought both armor upgrades and three weapons, along with some extra ammo.

@ Roflcore: each gun has a specific type of ammo and they're all very self-explanatory (such as Force Energy for the Force Gun). usually you find schematics for a new weapon before you find schematics for the ammo so I never bother to buy a weapon before I can buy ammo for it. on the other hand, once you have the weapon you will find sufficient ammo for it anyways. as for the story, it's very predictable so far and not original in any way, but it's one of my favorite types of story and keeps me playing at least. I'm at chapter 7 (or was it 8?) and so far there have been no big twists in the story. some kind of twist is on the horizon however, but I don't expect it to be groundbreaking. for me it's not the story that makes the game interesting though. it's the setting, atmosphere, design and very smart solution for interfaces that makes it stand out. and of course the options you have when it comes to equipment.

The Brits can make some pretty good (free!) stuff too. http://www.zombie-cow.com/?page_id=17

Also, bought Guitar Hero World Tour recently. It's loads of fun, though they sure went overboard with all the incredibly shitty indie music. There's maybe 20-30 songs in that game that don't suck ass.
Ah, well. Cheaper than the Rock Band bundle.

Currently playing Arcanum. Fun game, but I think I had more fun creating my character than playing the game. Combat is kind of lame, but I love all the dialogue choices.
