Glowing Grounds

Señor DeLuxe

First time out of the vault
Today is the day I´ve been looking forward to quite some time: I just launched my website www.glowinggrounds.com, where I will showcase my postapoc art...

For now it´s seven images I made during the last years, inspired by FO (among others) but not set directly in the FO universe. I´m sure you´ll spot the references. I´ve been working on these pics nearly every minute of my spare time (which has been not all that much recently), I guess I really have to thank my wife for being so incredibly patient.

When I started with "EVACUATION ROUTE" more than three years ago I had no idea that it would take me so goddamn long to actually show it. At some point, when I thought it was done and ready to be posted on NMA I thought I could make some more images and post them altogether. And so I ended up working on seven images simultaneously. When I had finished the last one the early ones didn´t seem to keep up in terms of CG quality with the later ones, so I reworked them. When I had done this I found glitches and flaws here and there and continuosly went back to every single image again and again, with my own demands continuously increasing...
Finally it just has not been possible for me to keep pace with the rising standards in CG art. So while initially I had three more images in mind (even started two of them), I feared I would never finish my project and dumped those to focus on the ones that where nearly done.

I do have plans to update my site with more postapoc art in the future, although taking more creative freedom, maybe trying some NPR techniques, maybe reactivating my long-neglected 2D skills. There´ll always be more stuff I´d like to do than I will have the time to I guess.

I will post one image a week, this week it´s "CONTROL ROOM". http://www.glowinggrounds.com/pages/postcard_01.html

I´m thankful for any kind of constructive criticism, so give me some feedback!

No feedback besides the "awesome!" and "wOOt" exclamations. :)

About time, this deserves to be in the news.

Woot!

The control room looks exactly like how I imagined the Glow from inside. As for constructive criticism; light filtering from a source into a dusty room looks somewhat different, it doesn't illuminate just the dust, but has some effect on what's behind the dust as well. Here's an example of semi-polarized light.

Will you post some of your sketches and artwork other than/without renders? I remember your 'ghoul' sketch I saw at DaC a while ago. Sweet, it was.

When I´m through with the seven renderings, I´ll most likely establish a scrapbook section with sketches and experiments. Maybe along with some other stuff I´m not sure about yet.

Since some obviously thought the later images were somehow accidently not accessible I might need to clarify: I planned to post one image a week, kind of like a sequel story. While the images do not tell a story in the strict sense of the word, they do have a certain order, showing progressing stages of decline in a postapoc world.

Same here! Really great, waiting impatiently the future pics.

P.S=> WooT or WoW, you decide

I like your style. I can imagine the time you spent on these images. Thanks for sharing. I created a topic on Nukacola.com to talk about your site. BTW do you mind if I put your images in our Gallery?

P.S : the guy on the last pic reminds me of Gordon Freeman. Intentional?

Thanks for the feedback!

McRae, feel free to post the images on your site. If you´d include a link to my site, that would be nice!

As for a similarity with Gordon Freeman, that wouldn´t be intentional. And aside from rather bulky glasses I don´t actually see much similarity...

The main inspiration came from a painting that I saw years ago posted in a postapoc art contest on a site called 3dpalette.com or so. That painting was pretty dark and very vague, merely showing the silhouette of a hunched figure between ruins. Very spooky. Can´t find that pic on my harddrive anymore, nor remember the name of the artist. And 3dpalette.com doesn´t seem to exist anymore...

Good to know. Thanks for the precisons. Of course, I've put a link to your site. Actually I've even create a topic and my pals seem to like your work. I'm waiting to see much more pics

Gorgeous work Senor.
I love the way you make
1 image (for me its the
control room) perfect rather than
10 sketchy unfinished images.

Keep it up!

Thanks for posting me again, briosafreak!! I´ve been on a trip the last days, however I just replied to the comments. Nice fellows roaming your blog.
