Gran Torino

eaten by a grue.
I saw Gran Torino today, and despite a few criticisms I have to say I loved it. I haven't quite decided exactly how good I think it is, but right now I'm leaning toward saying it's one of Eastwood's best movies.

I'm thinking about watching it, I heard it was really sad, I don't know, I'll probly give it a chance.

I pretty much love anything Eastwood. Unforgiven rates as one of my favorite westerns of all times. In the Line of Fire made me laugh my ass off with it's quirky humor, and it also kicked ass as a action flick. The greatest thing about Clint is that he is a humble guy underneath that gruff exterior. One of my favorite actors of all time.

I plan on watching Gran Torino ASAP.

Yeah, hes a total badass, and his stare is like that of carved granite, the man is near eighty and hes making a ton of good movies and will likely only stop when hes dead.(Hopefully in some real life awesome situtation in which he saves a community of people through good will and or gunfighting. Or dies in all girl except him orgy.)

Unforgiven was a awesome film, I also watched flags of our fathers and Letters back to back, i preferred the latter, but still. Pretty much everything he touches turns to gold(with a few exceptions of course *Cough* changling *cough*)

Damn, I'm so behind on my movie list that I probably won't get to see this one. I'm really wanting to see this, Slumdog Millionare and Seven Pounds.

My bro saw this yesterday and said it was hot so maybe I'll give this one precedent.

Dont remember any bad Eastwood movie for years. And that says a lot considering how many garbage runs trough TVs and cinema.

Some actors loose their appeal with the years but Eastwood somewhat managed to still stay a good actor and playing interesting roles.

Realy liked the movies he only directed as well. Like Flags of our Fathers/Letters from Iwo Jima

I wish though Eastwood would consider either directing or even playing in another westernmovie though! I sure missed those from him :(!

I want to see this movie as well, it looks kickass. My favorite movie is made by clint and he plays a role in it as well, its called 'a perfect world'. I like all of his movies.

Eastwood said that he would do another Western if there was a good script......

He should write one. I definetly loved any of his western.

Sergio Leone and Eastwood perfected by sound from Ennio Morricone... talking about great memories!

Yeah I loved "High Plains Drifter" and "The Man with No Name" trilogy.
It will be a sad day when we lose Eastwood.
As far as westerns go though I liked the "3:10 to Yuma remake."

It's been a couple days now since I saw Gran Torino, and the more I think about it, the more I like it. In fact, it's been hard not to think about it. It's just really, really good. No one but Eastwood could've made this movie. It would take someone with his clout to get the script greenlighted, and someone with his unique abilities to pull off the main character.

Liked it as well. Bale and Crowe work well together. The worst part of the film is the father-son-relationship. The son sucks. There, I said it.
But the 2007 version does in fact - IMO - work better than the original.

^Yeah the son was a little asshole. I actually haven't seen the old one yet, so I don't know about that one.

Edit: Just watched it. Any critic that talked shit about this movie (there where a couple) should not be a critic. It was one of his best movies to date. This movie just goes to show how great a actor and director he really is.

This movie made me laugh more than most movies that are strictly comedies. It touched me on many levels and just goes to show that Eastwood still has it. The actors were on point and I really wanted Tao and his sister to succeed in life. Walt was a really well developed character. I loved the little racist comments that him and his friends spouted off at each other.

This movie sets the bar pretty high for 2009. I don't think I would have changed anything about the movie. Perfect . I look forward to Eastwood's next endeavor.

The movie is really good but not great. The entire story and the end were too predictable and his character (foul mouth, grumpy old man but with good heart) is something that Eastwood had done numerous times before. But still fun movie I would rate is somewhere around 7/10. Btw, the last will reading scene was awful.

^ Why was it awful? Awful as in what was said or awful as in you don't agree with it?

Well, seeing as there's not actually any Chinese people in the movie, it's unclear whether or not he harbors any ill-will towards them.

I actually hate the characterization of Eastwood's character as "racist" whenever I see it in movie reviews or in print or whatever. To simply call him a racist is a gross simplification of the depth of this movie. This is a really good flick, very definitely recommended.

One of the best flicks I've seen in awhile.

Eastwood's character is most certainly racist, not just against Koreans either, but just saying that is definitely a gross simplification. His character also evolves a bit throughout the film which is always a good thing.

Pretty ballsy writing to have the main character use the words, "wop" "dego" "mick" "spook" "chink" "zipperhead" "slope" etc. in this overly politically correct age. I'm glad people can still appreciate it.

The song at the end is pretty cheese though, not even regular cheese, it's like smoked Gouda sitting in the sun for a few decades.
