Great but overlooked games

Look, Ma! Two Heads!
Recommend a game that you thought was great but very few people actually played it or ever heard of it.

Ascension to the Throne

A mix of turn based strategy and RPG in which you take control of a king who lost his land, followers, and finds himself in a unknown land. The game has a average story, bad graphics even for time it was released and quests are mostly fed ex or "go there kill that" type, but the combat is very good and i found the game more fun then many high budget games.

Game is split in two gameplay modes:

Adventure, where the player explore the world, recruit followers and solve quests.

Battle, the best part of the game, challenging, fast and fun.

dark reign 1 + 2

i always held them as the penultimate of RTS games untill i played supreme commander + FA

You want a list? Allright.

Knights of the Temple - a great action sword-fighting game. Yeah, the story isn't the greatest ever, but the swordfights are beautiful, the puzzles are nice and it's really fun to play. The Gamespot review basically reads :"This game is made by a non-famous German company, so we hate it".

Kult: Heretic Kingdoms - somewhat of a Diablo clone, but with some actual dialogue, and, imo, a much more interesting skill system. The game is tons of fun, so try it on a rainy day when the gaming market is bad, like now. Definitely overlooked (partly because, again, is made by some German company).

Outcry (aka Sublustrum) - a wonderful quest/adventure game with a distinct style and challenging puzzles. Anyone who likes adventure games should definitely try it. Made by a Russian company, but available in English (couldn't find an English trailer for it tho).

Disciples II - one of the best and most original fantasy TBS games. Released awhile ago, and utterly overlooked by the gaming world outside Eastern Europe.

There's more, but I can't remember them now.

PS: I HAVE heard of Ascension to the Throne, but never got a chance to play it.

Dark Reign was my favorite RTS for a loooong time.

It was a great game for multiplayer, at least until some asshole decides it was a good idea to build nothing but five hundred artillery units and blow everyone up a quarter of the map away.

@Ausdoertt - Kult: Heretic Kingdoms was somewhat decent, although not as good as Divine Divinity on the "Diablo-clone scale".

Ground Control 1 + exp
Dark Reign 1
Starship Troopers (the older squadbased RTS, not the newer FPS by the same name)

(and of course the obvious PS:T, Arcanum, VtM:B, etc)

Our Dark Reign 1 MP always run out of sync after some hour or so..was fun till then :D
well, it was tweaked by fans afterwards. still had some problems though.

Well I don't think only few people have played it, but "Psychonauts" by Tim Schafer seems to be somewhat overlooked too. And it's probably one of the best and most unique games of this decade.

Agreed on Psychonauts.

That Ascension to the Throne game looks pretty awesome.

I never played Dark Reign buti've heard great things about it.

it introduced a shitload of advanced features that it took other games ages to incorporate.

waypoints, patrols, level of unit aggressiveness.
featured long ranged artillery and very neat novel units.
also didn't bother to make exact copies of units with other names and other models on both sides. instead it used really different characteristics, yet provided a balanced game.

Aye, even though I only got to play a demo for that game, it certainly looks very fun.

Kohan (RTS).

Oh my god, Immortal Sovereigns, an absolutely incredible game.
Perfect strategy game, the company system was genius and the multiplayer was bar-none one of the best strategy gaming experiences ever, even the campaign was fantastic.

Time to reinstall.

Zanzarah Hidden Portal is a game that i accidentally discovered a year ago and it provided me with many hours of fun. The game is a mix of a third person fantasy adventure with pokemons and first person combat. As you explore a certain fantasy world in a need of saving from ancient evil you will gather demons, fairies, undead and other creatures that you will lead in duels against other trainers. The combat is resolved in magical mazes where you take control of one of your creatures and fight in first person. Every creature belongs to one of many elements and has strengths and weaknesses against other elements. Its a fun and simple game, with charming world and creature art and great soundtrack (i uploaded few themes on the topic Best Game Music).

Wierd Worlds: Return to Infinite Space
Imagine a 4X space game where you can finish a campaign in 15 minutes or less. And it's insanely fun. The combat takes place in real-time with pause but is extremely tactical.

Armadillo Run
While this preceded it, this game has the same basic gameplay as World of Goo, except it's deeper, more precise, and more enjoyable.

Trilby: The Art of Theft
This is a 2D stealth platformer at heart. Old school graphics overlie some of the best stealth gameplay I've ever experienced. Simple gameplay + good level design = some complex strategizing (and without new-fangeled problems with malfunctioning guard AI).

Surprised I haven't seen this one yet, I regularly browse Shrapnel Games for their wargame catalog.
It sounds very strange, I'm downloading the demo to try it out.
