Gun Control

Public schools are not "clubs or events". Army cadets is a separate thing from, say, elementary school, it's not a class there.

Ah but ROTC is a public school class in the USA. Either way your premise that the NRA trained this guy is bunk, just like that article you posted is "FAKE NEWS" meant to drum up more hate for the NRA by stretching facts to ridiculous ends and misrepresenting truths.

Your right some people don't but it still does not mean that the NRA trained this guy, you just don't seem to want to admit that.

On a side note CNN is reporting that Trump is moving to ban bump stocks and all devices that will turn semi-auto rifles into "machine guns". Please remember this as democrats are the ones who first approved the selling of these while republicans once again are the group getting things actually done. They are also looking into raising the age of purchase for "military style rifles" to 21 to match handguns.

Republicans
-freed the slaves
-gave minorities the right to vote
-gave women the right to vote

Democrats
-treated everyone like a victim
-waved there dicks around
-protected sexual abusers

Please. Don't cheapen this discussion by bringing that kind of black and white political posturing in here. These parties have both been around so long and gone through so many changes I could make any point I want about either of them by citing actions they took centuries ago.

Why? Would that be a bad thing if they had trained him?

No, the NRA is the main group supplying firearms training, something many would say is a good thing so that you don't have a bunch of people who have no idea how to safely use a firearm. They are not training people to be killers, but safety. If you want to talk about there advocacy for firearms rights, they spend much less on advocacy then gun control groups in the USA do. And as pointed out most of the firearms manufacturers loved the Dems in power as the sold way more guns when the Dems are in.

Uh only one of those are from centuries ago, but I get the point.

Without the intention to judge this, but you would have to do a bit of mental gymnatics to paint the Reps as the "let us be sensible on gun laws!" and the dems as the "gunz for everyone!" people ... just saying. It's more or less clear which side is in favour of what argument. Again, I am not saying which side is necessarily the better one.

Maybe something like that should be up to a governmental organisation and not a private company which is basically the PR-office of the gun industry. Even then it's fundamentally sketchy to teach kids to shoot.

I agree, but to be fair, guns do sell better when Democrats are in power or are expected to be.

What you've written above is the definition of partisan dick-waving, frankly.

Those accomplishments you listed all happened before Nixon's southern strategy, when both the Democrats and Republicans might as well have been completely different parties.

In the present day, the GOP are the party primarily responsible for representing the interests of pro-gun lobby groups in the US. Why do you think most of the gun lobby's money goes to Republican senators/congressmen?

If you want to talk about there advocacy for firearms rights, they spend much less on advocacy then gun control groups in the USA do.

What are you talking about? It's not even close.

Yeah TerminallyChill... but that is for the most past part founded on paranoia of "them fucking comie libtard taking ma gunz away!".

Also, I really like what Colbert said about this - as a serious comment.

Doing nothing, is equal to cowardice.

Still not disagreeing with you. But you have to admit... that paranoia isn't exactly founded on nothing.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/obama-calls-for-sweeping-new-gun-laws/
We also have a chance to be hit by a meteor or dieing to a super vulcano, but you're not going to build your life around it.

Even so... having it is better than not; for then there is at least some potential for defense, and mistake on the part of the assailant.
*Shrugs* Or the defender.

So I have read several times by now that students used to 'carry guns to school' for the purpose of hunting after school ended etc.

Can someone point me to reliable informatoin about it? I seem to have a hard time to find anything on the net about it. I am sure it would be an interesting read.

I'm thinking this was probably in or before the 1950's.

(And I was assume that it was not a case of granted permission, but rather a case of not being noteworthy; and I think really unlikely outside of rural areas.)

I guess the reliability of this depends on how much you trust me, but my dad was on the rifle team at his high school and they apparently had a shooting range in the basement. According to him, it was normal for kids and teachers bring guns to class. This is in rural Pennsylvania in the mid-1980's.

On a side note, as much as I enjoyed this debate, I think I am going to officially bow out of the thread now. Thanks for the great discussion, everyone. Take care of yourselves. Don't go shooting your own legs or anything.
