Gun Runners' Arsenal Details

WorstUsernameEver

But best title ever!
J.E. 'gun guru' Sawyer, project director on Fallout: New Vegas, Honest Hearts and, now, Gun Runners' Arsenal, has posted some new details on the upcoming item pack due to release next Tuesday on the Bethesda blog. Energy weapons galore:
Optimized Small Energy Cell, Micro Fusion Cell, Electron Charge Pack, and Flamer Fuel - Though we specialize in guns, we’re more than aware of the common complaints about energy weapons: ”My Laser Pistol doesn’t pack enough of a punch!” “The ammo’s too heavy!” “Max Charge ammo eats through my Tesla Cannon like a Glowing Ghoul at a Radroach buffet.” The Gun Runners don’t have the cure, but if you’ve got the talent, scientist, heal thyself. Optimized Energy Weapon ammo: 30% more damage, superior armor penetration, and they even weigh less. The only drawback is a slight increase in weapon degradation. Requires Vigilant Recycler.

GRA Laser Pistol, Plasma Pistol - Never let it be said that the Gun Runners are snobs. We’ve worked on some distribution deals for customizable low-end Energy Weapons. Don’t let the “low-end” designation fool you. With new mods, these weapons can be potent against a surprisingly wide range of foes. The Laser Pistol’s Combat Sights make the weapon much more user friendly. The Focus Optics customization boosts damage. On the other end of the (visible) spectrum (heh), the Plasma Pistol’s High-Energy Ionizer elevates its already impressive damage into the steel-melting range. A Magnetic Accelerator addresses the traditionally slow projectile speed. Recycler mods, to lower operating costs, are available for both weapons.

Cleansing Flame, MF Hyperbreeder Alpha - Two more one-of-a-kind (until we hear otherwise) Energy Weapons for clients who are interested in those things. Cleansing Flame is a high capacity Flamer with superior base damage, longer range, and a burn effect that improves with the user’s skill. An Energy Weapons expert is absolutely devastating with this monster! The MF Hyperbreeder Alpha is a unique Recharger Pistol that’s been hotwired for automatic fire. A previous owner heavily modified the internal breeder reactor for a rapid recharge rate, making this quite handy for anyone who doesn’t like to carry around a lot of ammo.

The more I hear about the GRA addon, the more I have no intent of actually downloading it. Consider this, this addon is adding weapons to be sold by the Gun Runners who do not deal in Energy weapons because their caravans get attacked, so I'm hoping that they explain why their carrying energy weapons all of a sudden.

Besides that I'm still hoping for some good old fashioned guns.

I don't want to nitpick and bash too hard, but I have to wait a DLC for adding iron sights to my laser weapon?
You've got to be kidding!

I'm not caring about the energy weapons too much, people complain A LOT and NV has manny to choose from, but I'm curious about the Battle Rifle.
Is a This Machine nerfed, isn't?
One hell of a weapon.

It would be great if this would have been a "classic weapons" DLC. You know, the old flamer, old sniper rifle, etc.

Well, they will be adding Bozar into the game. If that's not classic FO then I don't know what is ;)

the old flamer
I always figured that Bethesda intended the Incinerator to be a "re-imagining" of the old Flamer, at least in a design sense, as it doesn't function the same.

The "Flamer" from Fallout 3/NV is really quite ugly.

It looks pretty cool, but I'll wait until there are mods adding the weapons to leveled lists to buy it.

I don't think JES' post is going to change the minds of anyone who had decided they weren't going to pick up GRA. It probably doesn't help that those silly Nuka grenades are returning.

I'm still on the fence. I'm not opposed to the DLC (I'm actually in favour of it), but I'd rather wait for a complete list of new items and perks to be up on the Wiki before picking it up.

I'm not sure how I'd feel about that, personally. I think that if they'd done that, I'd feel like I was paying for a weapon reskin pack, rather than new weapons. I'd prefer to have weapons that looked more like the weapons in Fallout, but functionally most of them are similar enough that I'd feel kinda ripped off paying for something that just replaced, say, the blocky laser weapons with the nicer Wattz weapons.

I remember when we agreed that the FatMan is stupid and should kill it's user simply because of it's limited range.

And now we can throw the nucular bombs even by hand. :>

I just asked that on JES's Formspring. Hopefully, he'll respond to it soon.

Having nuclear mines makes (slightly) more sense than having some idiotic nuclear missile launcher.

Because Fallout is all about sober scientific realism. Objecting to the Fat Man despite Fallout's magic radiation and weirdly Nuclear Technology is like objecting to the New Vegas Casinos despite Gizmo and Reno. It's stupid.

I do believe the most common complaint about the Fatman was "it trivializes nuclear explosions in a setting that is all about the serious impact of nuclear explosions". Also that it seems like a gimmick to "be cool".

And Reno and Vegas were both equally stupid, not one more than the other.

Fallout is not about the serious impact of nuclear explosions. Fallout is a about the juxtaposition of people being terrible with post-nuclear kitsch. Nuclear Explosions are basically a pretext for it. Even if you're taking a DEADLY SERIOUS OMG reading of it, nukes don't really matter that much to the plot and themes.

It's also always been silly and dumb. Stupid goofy crap has always been part of its DNA. The Fatman is nowhere near ad dumb as the Hub.

Right, it was just a coincidence that they opted to have you end world-threatening forces in both first games with nuclear bombs, or that it is a post-nuclear game, nuclear explosions have no meaning in these games.

The Hub?

If you really want to push the whole "silly and goofy" angle even though that's mostly from Fallout 2, which has got lots of shit for that, realize that just because a franchise has some elements of humor doesn't make for a canvas excuse for all stupid shit, just going "this franchise isn't about sober scientific realism" doesn't change the verisimilitude of the setting, or its themes.
The Fatman was stupid, and had no place in Fallout.

It's not a "theme" exactly but more of an aesthetic choice. I agree that "Fallout is not about the serious impact of nuclear explosions" and no one ever said that it is; but the deliberate contrast between the pulpier (not necessarily sillier) side of Fallout's world with the immense destructiveness of The Bomb is a pretty major part of the setting. Despite all of the comic book style radiation, mutations, energy weapons etc. nuclear weapons themselves maintain most of their horror and realism.

I'm more interested in picking up the Courier's stash and in part it seems ridiculous that they even force you to pay for the addon's from GRA. It's ridiculous. I can find better play from a mod than something that's supposed to be official? This just is not right. I think the developers have lost their damn minds and it's a shame somebody out there is going to pay for this stupid addon.
