Heres what I don't get.

But the issue is that its Bethesdas policy to never ever allow NPCs to lie to the player or steal something from him.

One area I'll agree with you completely on. This is a dark world. You should certainly not be able to take everything said at face value.

Well, they did shoot at you, didn't they? On your way to Dad, that is. If they weren't EVIL, they could lead to to their leaders, work it out somehow, I guess.

BTW who shut the goddamn door anyway? Why wasn't Dr Li locked inside as well?

Oh well, guess Todd hates his dad and always wanted to kill him somehow. With Fallout 3, he had a chance doing it legally.

Yes F3 is a dark world. But your not allowed to be. Does not matter what the frack you did for in the end nothing matters.

You do NOT get to choose to join the "evil" enclave

You do NOT get to ask your Hulk pal to go into the chamber of instant death

Beth RPG means role playing game where there should be an evil path with an evil ending, a good path with a good ending, and a frack it ending.

But has been stated and beaten to a pulp console kiddies want this not and since they control the wallets they control the tripe that is shoveled out.

/sigh, end rant

Wait... Liam Neeson is Todd Howard's dad??

I'M SO CONFUSED :(

It makes perfect sense.

Why else would he attempt to force a Liam Neeson father on us all?

I mean, he was cool in Darkman but I don't want Darkman as my dad.

He'd probably crush my hands in a fit of rage or something; then his face would melt off and cause me endless nightmares.

Wait, didn't Dad use to be a BoS Paladin? That means he got "Detect Evil" ability on Lvl. 1 :P

Well Fallout and Fallout 2 only had ONE ending really. You could only defeat the Big Bad in both, not join them(I don't consider being dipped in FEV as a real alternative). The thing about them was that in undertaking your 'big quest' you have an effect on the lives of others leading up to its completion. I have no problem with just having one final ending, just would like to have the journey leading up to it have an effect in some way upon the world. The cool thing about Fallout was that your incidental actions in various locations often had a greater impact on the world or many of its citizens than what you did in the main quest.

Yes. And even this they did not managed to accomplish really. In the end, even if you did all kinds of possible quests in Fallout 3 it doesnt really matter, which fairly is even pretty easy since there are only around 20 or 23 REAL quests to do in the whole game if you dont count the few repetitive fetch-me-scrap metal or "collect some nuka cola bottles please" styles of quests you get in every standart MMO today.

You can do quite some interesting things in Fallour 3 (beside just blowing stuff up and killing critters/people), but it still almost has no impact on your game in the end. The charm of Fallout 1/2 was for sure not its "main quest line" well not only, but the results of your actions during the time you did the main quest and of course the characters you had in it. I mean ... take the Master, Harold, Enclave President (fallout 2), Harry the Leutenant, Myron baby MYRON! and a lot more. I cant say that even ONE SINGLE character in Fallout 3 had the charm of any Fallout 1 or Fallout 2 talking head.

*edit I really miss the times when they had not so much power to make SUPER BIG IMMERSIVE worlds with graphic ... and thus if they wanted to make long RPGs they had to make it with NPCs, dialogues and quests. Now it seems already to be enough to give people the tools for Larping and you can hype and say "more then 150 hours of playtime!".

Moira has a charm :P A charm of annoyance that makes you want to shoot her, or just skip every sentence she says :?

this is very interesting; can we get some of this intellectual input regarding the enclave in the modding forum?

(I know what you are refering to ! stil :P)
and Moira gets still beaten in any way by First bitchizen Lynet. I mean it seriously. I fell in love with that woman. It really very very rarely happens in a RPG that I get the urge to kill some NPC and contiune the game if I dont have to kill them as I like usualy to play a neutral character but the character of Lynet was written to be that annoying (in a good way) and hypocritical that I hade to shoot her and and the whole vault city teach the rules of the wasteland in the process at least ONCE while playing the game without reloading a past save game.

Just pure awesomeness. Cant say I feelt the same whe I shot moira brown cause of her annyoing voice ...

Lynette shows again the difference in quality of charecterisation between the originals and F3. There you could loathe a character based on a well constructed ideology, Lynette was CONVINCED she was right, and backed it up! NOT just because they were annoying as in F3.

Personally I never hated Lynette or Vault City. Their philosophy and style of government reminded me of an ancient greek city-state. Certainly annoying, but also effective in a dangerous, savage world. Also, Lynette's not the one hiring the Bishops to attack NCR...

Point seconded.

Yes and this are the "shades of gray" that I really really really (and more reallys ...) miss in Fallout 3 compared to the past games ... you really have no reason to questions the actions of your quest sponsors or even your own actions in that matter. Everything is hand over to the player like on a silver table, "do this and youre VERY Evil" - "do that and youre the SAINT!" even your chance of succes with your spech skills is shown up in every conversation ... so much to immersion I guess ...

I certainly liked Lynette as a character, but as a character, she is a total bitch. She was convincing and believable and real, unlike Moira. Killing Moira doesn't give me satisfaction, killing Lynette does.
