Hi-Res Patches for Fallout1&2 & the BIS Mapper

From the bug reports page for my mod:

Don't know where to put this one. '''Since 5.3 install. If I hit"windows" key to minimize the game, I can't maximize it after that. All I can do is close the screen refresh notification, and the program with right click on the task bar, but I can't launch the game again after that. I have to close windows session and open it again to be able to.
Is that at all due to your new version of f1res? It seems to me that it implements the graphic modes very differently than before. For example, any loading or transitions take a second or two longer than normal on my system (plus you have all the DirectX stuff now as well). Anyway on my system it "feels" slower and sluggish compared to before. 3.0.6 "just worked" in comparison and didn't really get in the way of anyway.

Since it started for this user in 5.3 I'm inclined to assume it's caused by the new code somehow

@Sduibek
I didn't have that issue with my FO1 (though only with 1.2.1 & 1.3.5 patches). From my experience 4.0.1 is better than 3.0.6. With 3.0.6 FO1 always crashes when I try to alt-tab or win key to desktop then get back, but 4.0.1 works pretty well with full screen.

That's something I've noticed myself over the years and isn't caused by the hi-res patch. The game is still running, just that the minimized window failed to appear. Fallout is still accessible though from the alt-tab menu.
Edit: I may have misread that a bit. he said he closed the program with a right click. Still I can't replicate it at my end.

@Sduibek:
I havn't noticed any speed issues myself, the DirectDraw 7 mode atleast should be fairly comparable to the previous version.
Edit: Is the black box problem still an issue?

While it's been part of the patch for a while I still wouldn't mind some feed back from those who've used it. I still class it as experimental.

FYI, I set the extra pathing distance for the MR build (we have really huge maps) to about half the slider. For now it works wonderfully. I'll let you know if we encounter any issues.

Windowed mode is awesome, Mash! :clap: But it don't remember window size and position (except when maximized) - "; Window size and position data, Do not modify.." seems to be ignored... Also, when resolution is other than 640x480 and when I click on the green town circle Fallout with 4.0.1 crashes (dunno about Fallout 2):

The crash will not occur when I'll load the savegame and then resize the window. Changing window size before loading savegame will crash the game.

I had that "MovieDx surface creation failed" thingy with DX9 mode in 4.0.0 too, but since I'm using Direct Draw 7 it's not a problem for me ;)

@ Character screen

There's no place for border unless you'll change canvas size of the FRM. Besides, that artwork isn't good for border (unless you'll add some really simple stuff, like some round corners, for example).

I have a bug report that whenever this user saves their game at night, a lighted circle appears in the middle of the map. Happens on all maps. Goes away if f1_res 4.0.1 is disabled.

Would you like their settings file or anything like that?

First of all, bare with me folks. My computer's still down, with a faulty video card as it turns out. I'd order a new one but I have to move house next week, and I'll have to wait till I have a more permanent address to get parts sent to. So presently my computer access is rather limited.

Haven't been able to replicate Continuum's worldmap crash as yet but in the proccess I did notice that lighted circle of yours Sduibek, so I'll hopfully track down that one at least. If anyone else has Continuum's issue please post the details.

@ Ardent & Lexx, thanks for the info. If I dont get any problem reports regarding the path distance mod, I'll remove the experimental note from the readme in the next version.

I have the setting set to max (20/40k) by default in FIXT... unfortunately if it is causing issues, I wouldn't know what they'd be. :crazy:

- I've removed scripts folder - game no longer crashes.
- I've restored scripts folder, started new game, and saved it in 2nd slot,
- I've loaded game from 2nd slot, and entered town - no crash,
- I've executed FALLOUTW.EXE again,
- I've loaded game from 1st slot, and entered town - crash*,
- I've executed FALLOUTW.EXE again,
- I've loaded game from 2nd slot, and entered town - no crash,
- I've loaded game from 1st slot, and entered town - no crash :lol:

Weird shit... :o it looks like it was scripts related issue... but I don't get it :scratch:

* windowed 640x480 works fine

Which town?

Please get a debug log for the crash(es) and post it here.

Clicking anywhere on the world map will crash the game :D

The offender seems to be OBJ_DUDE.INT from FIXT.

Sorry for bothering you Mash, but that weird behavior (crashing in other resolution than 640x480) was kinda misleading :P

lol, my bad. :shock:

Would you please send me the script file? email or PM, whichever.

Thanks 8-)

I've sorted out the floor lighting bug, this goes for the white walls and other objects as well. I've setup a new version, but as this fix is the only addition at this point, I'll probably sit on it for the rest of the weekend incase anything else crops up.

Hi, I'm very new to modding, so this may be a stupid question, but I was wondering if it is possible to use this patch in combination with the latest version of Fallout 2 Restoration Project. Thanks.

The HiRes patch is already included in the RP. If you're new to this stuff, I'd recommend you don't replace it - the version included in the RP is good enough as it is.

Perhaps more importantly, a new version of the Restoration project is due out soon (how soon? Who knows), and when it's released, it'll include the then-latest version of the high-res patch.

Personally, I'd wait on playing the RP until the new version comes out. Lots of bugs have been fixed and a handful of new features have been added since the last version was released.

Thanks for answering. I was just about to start a new F2 play-through, but now I'll hold off until the new RP version is out.

Hi-res patches for both fallouts now at version 4.0.2.
This is a bug fix release, links in my sig.
Havn't updated the first post as my internet is down and will remain so over the next few days while i move house (Posting this on my phone which sux).
