Hi-Res Patches for Fallout1&2 & the BIS Mapper

Continuum's dialog box art in game screenshot, with the minor adjustment to screen(glass thingy) Y position:

This will be available in the next release of the hi-res patch. For fallout purists it can be turned off in the ini but will be enabled by default.
Looks pretty good I think. :)

The new dialog box looks great!
Just curious about the window mode in the next version, is it only for FO1 (since sfall1 is too outdated) or both? If both, how would it work with sfall's setting?

The new graphic modes in the hi-res patch will be available for both fallouts, they won't work with sfall's graphic modes but they can be turn off allowing you to use both mods together the same way you can now.

Great work! I can’t wait to try the latest version of your resolution patch.

I have been working on getting fallout 2 running on android. I don’t know if you have seen my thread about it but I used an win9x emulator to run it. Well now I have done a lot of additional work and managed to get it running semi stable with sound. I am close to releasing this for everyone but I also would like to include your excellent resolution mod. This will make it a lot easier for people to play it on their phones and tablets.

So under win95 using dx8 16 bit video and audio I am able to use your patch to change my resolution. I am wondering if I will be able to use the windowed version in your next release with win95 and dx8. This might help to speed up the game play. I am working on a win 98 img with DX 9c too but its slower to run and needs more work.

The emulated graphics is very limited to a Cirrus logic 5446 with only 4MB. I am trying to squeeze more performance out of it. Could you offer me any tips for tweaking the fallout2 config for a slow emulated GPU? I don’t suppose you could offer any settings to actually reduce the quality and increase the speed? I know it’s a funny request but Fallout2 would make a great portable game.

Please check out my RootWiki Thread to see large pictures of the me using your patch on android. I keep getting in trouble for posting large pictures here lol. Thank you for all your hard work :clap:

What's the difference between the new and old...I can't tell. Is it the edges?

Continuum dropped the screen(glass thingy) down a few pixels for centring with his new pip box edges, I messed with the exe to adjust the draw positions of the talking heads and whatnot so that they're drawn in the right place.

@RolandDeschain79:
The hi-res patch generally requires more cpu grunt than less. No idea how well the next version will work under 95, not an OS I usually test in.
Can't think of any easy ways to improve performance without diminishing the game in some way. eg kill fade effects, sounds etc. not a direction I'd like to go. I wish you the best of luck on your quest though.

Have a problem with f1 hi res in windowed mode.

F1 works fine in window with sfall. This is how it looks:

And this is what happens after installing hi res patch:

My configs: http://www.mediafire.com/?xsa6p4tfehdphw7

F2 works fine with the same settings.

F1 SFall is not compatible with the high res patch.
Since when? Works fine for me.

Hmm. Okay, I'll take your word for it. What's hasnogames issue then? he has SFall set to 8 bit and the High res set to 16. Would that explain it?

Hmmm. Well I always have Sfall in 8bit when using hi-res. I never do Windowed mode because it's slow and laggy on my PC (although it does work), as is Dx9 mode.

I assume this is the issue
;If using a dx9 mode, this changes the resolution
;The graphics are simply stretched to fit the new window; this does _not_ let you see more of the map
;If you want to use an upscaling filter other than the hardcoded once listed below, place a dx9 effect file called 'global.fx' in data\shaders
GraphicsWidth=1024
GraphicsHeight=768

Try setting to 640x480 in ddraw, and leaving the 1024x768 in f1_res, but also up the colors to either 16bit or 32bit (try both) in f1_res. That should fix it, although like I said it might run slow.

Personally except for rare cases, I always leave ddraw in 640x480 @ 8bit. f1_res overrides it.

As Mash said, it's fallout 1 "sfall's" problem, since it's outdated. sfall2 for fallout 2 works fine with hires patch.

sfall for fallout 1 doesn't do much that the high res patch doesn't do better. Not sure why anyone would need both, unless you want the speed tweaks or something...

Anyways, they should play nicely together, as long as sfall is set to graphics mode 0. Anything else and you're gonna end up in trouble.

Umm... why does f2_res make it no longer possible to hit F10 on world map?

I really hope that's not a "feature" :shock:

Not on purpose, weird I'll check it out.

Awesome.

See, I knew there was a reason the RP has been delayed for so long. ;) 8-)

Personally I play at 720x480 but I'm probably the only one. To me anything other than 480 height just feels wrong.

Continuum, I don't suppose you'd like to apply your sexy edge treatment to the Character screen? (map and inventory look OK to me)

----------------------------------------------------
I assume we don't need panels.ini any more?

Some issues with the current version:

1) If IFACE_BAR_MODE=1 then the Create Character screen is affected. Which looks silly ;)

2) I don't suppose there's anything we can do about this?: (ugly black borders on small maps, because they literally aren't big enough to fill the screen)

3) Your caves edgefile cuts off part of the left side of the map needlessly. My fixed version:

You can expand the maps. That's what .Pixote. did for the RP and I think the effects are seamless.
