I wish I never got rid of these games. Holy shit! Would any of you pay that much for a game?

Post pics, links, or discuss similar high priced games. I don't think I would pay more than 100 bucks for any game. That is just me though.

What about the dudes that paid hundreds of bucks for MW 3?

I don't think that expensive Legend of Zelda will sell, as there are cheaper ones on eBay... I have the Earthbound SNES cartridge, and the big strategy guide that comes with it, but I can't seem to find it :/ (the guide, not the game. I know where that is :P)

I knew Earthbound was expensive, but damn has it inflated the past few years... I remember it being $50 (cartidgne only, no book or box) and thinking "what the fuck, that's how much a brand new game costs."

Anyway, yeah, there are toooooons of old games that cost a lot of money... mainly classic RPGs.

Chrono Trigger, EVO, Harvest Moon, Breath of Fire, the Final Fantasies, Lufia, Ogre Battle, I could go on... these all can cost much more than new games do. I would guess it's a combination of rarity (though most of these games aren't that at all), collectibility, and nostalgia that drives the prices up. To be honest, I don't really fucking know.

For a lot of people (including me), it's just a nicer feeling to have an actual copy of the game and play it on the original system than to play it emulated on a ROM. I'm just glad that I already have most of the games I'd like to (and picked ones I didn't have years ago), because these prices are pretty crazy :P

To answer your question though... would I pay that much for a game? No. Would I pay $50-60? Occasionally, as many of these games I prefer to newer ones so they really have more value to me. I don't think there are any that cost over $100 that I would buy... at least that I don't have already :P

They said Earthbound isn't even really rare which makes it even stranger. I have wanted to find the strategy guide that came with it, but I don't want to pay much for one. One of those Legend of Zelda cartridges was very rare. That is why it goes for more sometimes. I sold a bunch of SNES games awhile back for a decent price. It's pretty cool to see how gaming has changed over the years. Cartridges to Blue rays is a pretty big jump. What will video games be played on in 30 years? What format will exist in 30 years?

I'd never pay that kind of money for an old game but I bought multiple times old games at almost full retail price.

Well...there was one time, though, when I bought a Saturn, an analog pad and a memory/converter cartridge (and of course the game itself) just to play this.
Eventually I bought a handful of other games but initially I purchased all that stuff only to play that single game. Never regretted it. :)

I was thinking of that game when I made the thread. I forgot it's name though. I knew it was Guardian something. A couple of Saturn games run a little high in price sometimes. That Battle Arena game was pretty badass for Saturn.

Guardian Heroes. Back then I kept hearing it was rare or something but it's actually not very expensive.

Of course the HD re-release isn't on PSN. ;__;

I should have kept my old NES games, I could have made a pretty penny.

This. When I see old NES games on ebay for ridiculously high prices that I used to own (but no longer do) it makes me rage a bit.

Same with my old Transformers from the 80s.

The expensive ones for the Saturn are Panzer Dragoon Saga (used to play it a lot) and that firefighting one, uh, Burning Rangers.
Managed to bag a few rare console games (Final Fantasy VII and the Gamecube Twilight Princess) but only ever had one Saturn game handed in to my charity shop and it was Sega Rally. :V

Since we are on the subject of old games for high prices, here are my last two catches.

I found them this morning at my local gamestop. [/spoiler:b35cd19d06]

Nice! Good lookin boxes too.
Wasn't Daikatana well known for being utter shit? Good find!

It took twelve years and a €60 price drop, but Romero did finally make you his bitch. Suck it down.

Pretty much. I don't know if I'll ever bother to play it anyway, but the box is nice, it has an historical value and...well...for that price...

Man, the development of this game was a mess.

Seeing that MDK box brings back good memories. You probably have played it before but if you haven't you're in for a wild ride. Very awesome game.

I bought the german special edition of MDK some years ago for around 30 euro, I think. It was still boxed as new. Super fancy. It was like MDK just had been released and I bought it on day one.

Only the text is translated to german. If I remember correct, there isn't much spoken text anyway (was there spoken text at all?).

Never played it before. I'm having a blast, the game has a very strong personality. Lol, "prepare for a religious experience". It also has the percusor of the Fatman with the "world's smallest atomic bomb".

It's a shame that it recognizes only old style "one stick-four buttons" gamepads. :\
