How smart are you?

It Wandered In From the Wastes
This here is what you call a vanity thread. Any comment you make is welcome (as long as it's not outright spamming), like your IQ scores, general opinion people make of you, the opinion you have of your self, or why you think this thread sucks (or rules). Though I have a pretty clear picture from most people’s posts I still would like to add a little personality hue to it. To make it fair, I’ll go first.
I’m what you call an average person. Not too smart, and mostly not too stupid either. Not that good in languages. I speak only Croatian and English, though I can speak and write German to a lesser degree, and I kinda liked Latin back then in high school (too bad I never get to use it anymore…). I’m not as good in Math as I’d like to be, but I can at least solve most types of indefinite integrals in a finite amount of time :), though I favor discrete math (like combinatorics or graph theory) over calculus. Algebra sucks, though geometry (planar, spatial, non-Euclid) was fun. I’d say I’m your generic programmer as well, with slight emphasis on algorithmically elegant (non-exponential time) solutions. Object oriented (and templated) programming is a must (like C++, for example). Prolog was fun, Scheme was boring, Python was interesting (though I gave it up, when I had realized how fruitless an investment of time that would have been). What I really suck at, is memorizing large quantities of uncorrelated data (like history lessons), music ( I can playback 5 sec of melody at best) and am not that good in visual memory either. People say I’m fun to be with, though I tend to be a bit too sarcastic at times. Imagine that!
Well, that’s it for my part. Now share some of what you’ve got with me. And remember, this is all for the greater name of science, namely my psychology project. Cheers

Well, where do I begin? At first glance I am a normal, average dude. I like to dress well, I am nice to people, I have a cheerful and friendly disposition and enjoy hanging out with my friends. I dislike going to clubs and other places filled with pretentious morons with more money than brain cells and very much prefer pubs, bars and similar locations.

Though I may not be much of a nerd in appearance and behaviour (make no mistake, my behaviour can be extremely nerdy with the right crowd; it's just not typical for me), I am definitely a nerd in character. I love SF and fantasy fiction, history, RPGs and hentai. My favorite mental entertainment is inventing epic stories, worlds and characters. Occasionally I get sick of people around me and the world in general. At those times I prefer solitude of my home and sometimes a week goes by that I only play games and surf the web without so much as setting foot outside my apartment.

I'm a reasonably, but not exceptionally, smart and educated person. I have graduated from a language high school with highest grades. My primary talents are languages and writing. I know English almost perfectly and German less so. I am also familiar with Anglosaxon, Latin, Elvish, Numenorean, Dwarven, Orcish, Klingon, Vulcan and a number of other dead or imaginary languages. I have acquired the Sprachdiplom certificate to prove my l33t German sk1llz. I enjoy writing professional articles as well as fiction. My secondary talents are poetry and design.

I am currently enrolled in a university, in the field of Computer Science. My main interests in that area are system programming, graphics engine development and compiler design. I am more or less familiar (though by no means expert) with a number of programming languages, including C, C++, C#, Java, SQL, HTML, XML, PHP, VHDL, various assemblies (Motorola, ARM, Intel...) and a few others. My IQ is between 145 and 150.

As for other people's view of me... well, why don't you ask them? I have lots of good friends of both genders. Many consider me smart, if a bit absent-minded and nerdy. Others consider me downright brilliant and excessively nerdy. It all depends on the perspective, I suppose. All in all, I would say my public image is positive.

IQ tests are for sissies.

Now the ASVAB, there is a real test of your intelligence.

Got a 125 GT score on that one.

FUCK! Ratty, I'm pretty much exactly like you except I don't study Computer Sciences but English and History, I'm not so nerdy and I'm not gay. We should cybar. (Yes, I notice the irony).

Congratulations are in order for Max, who saved valuable memory space by condensing his double-post into a single one.

Ninety-nine, bitches. Perfect score.

Anyway, when it comes to school I excel in English, French, History and (some of) the sciences. I absoloutely suck at math, at least precalculus. I used to be good at it- I got b's in geometry and algebra II without even trying- but now, apparently, I suck.

Ironically, I also am well versed in a variety of programming (and interpreted) languages, Java being the one that I'm most familiar with. I also code passably in C++ and most recently I've tried my hand at C#.

I can whip up a decent web page in about an hour using my semi-l33t CSS and HTML skillz, but other than that I'm not very artistic at all. Modeling, drawing, scuplture, painting, and even music were never strong suits of mine, though I thoroughly regret not having picked up an instrument in the sixth grade. It's a bit late now, I suppose.

So, I'd define myself as someone of above-average intelligence when it comes to history and literature, but average or slightly below-average in math, the arts, and some sciences (e.g biology).

I had my IQ test done at the local hospital eight years ago, it said I had an IQ of 148.

Like hell I do.

I feel this topic is incredibly stupid.

Really

Incredibly so.

Ego-stroking may be fun in its time, but asking people on a forum that has debates as a frequent form of entertainment to soliloquize about how bloody smart they are is just begging for bleeding eyes

As such, I'll set topic mode to /ignore

I picked mushrooms today. For instance:

Bearded milkcap

King bolete

Chanterelle

Bare-toothed russula

No rly.

I played beach volleyball today, and was surprised at how good my serve is. Near overwhelming – for both my opponents and my arm (hope the pain subsides soon or I’ll get another neurotic episode). Did I mention that I suffer from OCD (Obsessive-compulsive disorder)? Goes to switch on and off his internet connection…

I feel, personally, like I am smarter than almost everyone I associate with in real life. Only a few people I've met struck me as possibly being as smart.

My SAT score slightly bore this out, as I did slightly above average in math and a few points from perfect in verbal, all without studying.

I don't know how smart I really am, I've never taken a professional IQ test of any kind. But I read college history books in my free time, I often am in the middle of reading three or four books at any given time, I can read 500 page books in a day... It goes on.

My foriegn language skills, in terms of speaking, are awful. I can read decently in French.

I'm pretty skilled at Chess, although not good enough to compete professionally. (Went to state in high school three times.) If I trained, maybe...

A weird thing about me is that I enjoy swordfighting. Really really enjoy it. I spar with a friend with shinai all the time, and I've read several books on different fighting techniques. I'm looking to get trained in fencing now.

Dude, that's fucking sad.

Last thing I'd want to be doing right now is reading college history books. Yet sadly, I am.
But really: you're not supposed to waste your free time with that. It's unholy. Go enjoy your friggin' life, Streber.

I have a ridiculously high reading speed. Not like the speed readers you see on TV, but still, fast fast fast.

Also, I really love history. I think the best book I ever read was "The State and Society of the Byzantine Empire." Man that was a good one.
