IC- Zombie Apocalypse Chapter 2- The Quick and the Undead

OOC- That's okay. I'm sorry I updated it before you made your post. I had noticed that you had been online briefly when I was finishing up, but it worked out okay. The other characters still took out enough zombies so that this batch will be finished off before it can attack anyone, and you get to save some ammo. Your roll of 87 is actually a hit, and the ones you made on Invisible Castle last night would have been too. There is no distance penalty for Sam Black's rifle until you get to about a mile out since the Barrett has excellent range, and when one does apply your skill will be divided by 2 (or more). The only penalty in this case is the -5% for a headshot, making your effective skill 92-5=87. Your roll just barely hit, so go ahead and roll damage and then edit your post. You will almost certainly do enough damage to kill the last uninjured zombie, leaving just the one wounded one. The -15% penalty you've applied earlier was when shooting at a dog, due to its small size and high speed. These zombies are (ex-)humans, so that penalty does not apply to them. Also, don't forget to post for Joe Barring and Ramirez.

Also, I noticed that Luke's character sheet lists his Fist/Punch skill as 45%. The base level is 50%, so that's what he should have. Either way the roll was a hit, but punching a weapon is not necessarily the best way to disarm someone who is tightly gripping a weapon. Samantha isn't that strong, though, so it may work and I'll allow it in this case since she failed her Resistance roll. The normal way to disarm someone is to make two successive Grapple rolls: one to grab the weapon and the second roll to wrench it free. Grapple rolls may also be actively opposed by the target's own Grapple skill. The default Grapple level is 25%.

Enough people have posted that I can write the next major update early during the week. It'll probably be on Tuesday.

IC-
West of the motel-
"Will do, Sarge," replied Alanen. "Ortega, look sharp. There may be more of them out there."

In the comm room-
"Sergeant McCain," said Malone, "we're trying to communicate with NATO HQ in Brussels to warn them that the use of nuclear weapons in populated areas actually worsens the spread of the infection, but the man we're talking to doesn't understand English. He seems to be a native French speaker, and I heard you spoke the language. See if you can communicate with him." She handed McCain the microphone.

(McCain, roll French - the skill level listed on his character sheet is 18%.)

East of the diner-
Samantha tried to hold onto the rifle, but she could not and it clattered to the asphalt. "Let me go!" she cried, her eyes flashing wildly. She twisted away from Luke and bent down to retrieve it, but Mitchell came up behind her to restrain her. She barely eluded his grasp. Ellen also made a grab for her, but she missed too. Fortunately, Jenny darted in and scooped up the fallen rifle.

In the reception area-
Dr, Hausmann eased herself into the seat behind the reception desk. "Bob, you've got good eyes. Why don't you help stand guard too? Mr. Ramirez, if you'll bring my computer over here I can boot it up and show you what you want to know. Stephanie, you need to pay close attention too."

Stephanie nodded, tearing her gaze away from Bo and focusing on the computer. She stood next to the doctor. "Maybe under the circumstances I should do the typing," she said. "I can be your hands."

"Ja, gut. You type faster than me even when both my arms work."

West of the motel-
Corporal Alanen placed and armed the third Claymore, then turned around to head back for the motel.

Phillips and Thayer finished barricading the northwest stairway.

From his position on the balcony, Ortega could see four people running his way from the west through the high grass. They were getting dangerously close to Alanen, and Ortega could tell that they were grievously wounded.

(Ortega, roll Sanity. If you fail, you lose 1d10 Sanity points. If you lose 5 or more, roll Idea to see if you go temporarily insane (which happens if you succeed). If you do not go temporarily insane, you get one round to attack.

If any others are going to attack the zombies in the grass, they must succeed at a Spot Hidden roll first. If they do succeed, they must also roll Sanity. Once you succeed at the roll, you have seen all four zombies and can target any of them from now on without having to roll again. They are currently about 70 yards from the motel and closing fast.)

On the roof of the motel-
Black and Sheen both see the head of the zombie that Black just shot explode.

(Both of them are capable of shooting at the zombies in the field, provided they make their Spot Hidden rolls and do not go insane.)

In the comm room-
"You may return to your duties, Sergeant McCain," said Lt. Malone. "I believe that Sergeant Black is conversant in French. If you think you can spare him for a few minutes without compromising our security, send him down. Otherwise, tell me and I'll think of something else."

(McCain may roll Spot Hidden this round if he goes out the west exit, but he may not fire this round because he will take too much time going outside.

Note that it will take someone a full round to go up or down the ladder leading to the roof, and the bottom is on the east side of the motel.)

North of the T-Bone-
Hockey's burst tore off the last creature's leg and it fell down in the dirt road. Amazingly, it kept crawling towards the people standing in the road to its south. Kimberly took a shot at its head, missing by the slimmest of margins. Lereux took a shot as well, narrowly missing.

Duran took careful aim and fired, scoring a direct hit that finished it off.

"Good work, people!" said Lereux.

Zorie Spooner approached Kimberly. "Let me take a look at that wound," she said, removing her bandages and gasping. "You were bitten!"

At this, the captain whirled around and trained his rifle on Kimberly's head, taking a step away from her.

"Whoa, what are you doing?" asked Kimberly.

"You've been bitten," he said. "That means you're infected."

At the garage-
David and Jimmy continued to work on the truck's coupling. "Hmm," said David. "The truck's going to be too heavy for us to push, but if we can do some preliminary repairs we ought to be able to drive it back into the garage. It's only sticking out by a little, so it won't have to go far. Then we'll be able to close the door."

Alice continued standing watch and didn't detect any threats.

Since Joe Barring made no move to get out of the truck, Baldwin shrugged and drove in a tight circle through the parking lot so that the truck was facing north. "You know," he said to Erica Spears, "you probably should have just landed the chopper here. It would have been a lot easier than lugging the fuel up the road and refueling it there. It's not too late to go get it and fly it back here, now that you know it's safe to land."

"I don't know about that," she said. "What if these guys impound my chopper? Let's just get that fuel loaded and find some more ammo - or better yet, some rifles."

"We barely survived Brownson. It'll take twice as long to fuel your bird the rest of the way, and more of those things were chasing us all the way back."

"Maybe you're right," said Erica. "Damn, I should have just landed here in the first place and saved us a trip. Now we have to go back and get it."

Baldwin stopped the truck in front of the garage. "Let's stock up first, though." He left the truck idling and got out.

East of the diner-
Samantha sprang towards the weapon crates and grabbed Earl's double-barrelled 20 gauge shotgun from one of them.

Beth, alerted to the commotion, climbed down the ladder from the roof. "Don't do it!" she cried.

"Why not?" said Samantha. "We're all gonna die anyway."

"Maybe, but don't go throwing your life away. When you die, make it count for something. At least stop and think for a few minutes first. You can always blow your brains out later."

Samantha calmed down and placed the shotgun back in the crate. She wrapped her arms around Beth and began to sob.

Mitchell breathed a sigh of relief and went back to unjamming his own shotgun. He expertly cleared the jam. "Anything else need fixing around here?" he asked.

"Yeah," said Beth. "A couple of the guys are fixing Wallace's truck."

Mitchell nodded. "I think I'll go help them out."

In the warehouse-
Rosie helped the Foos down the stairs and into the warehouse as Azadeh stood up and began slowly walking. "Ooh," she said, looking in the one remaining weapons crate containing the grenade launcher and hand grenades.

"Miss Samimi," said Mr. Foo. "I'm glad to see you survived the explosion."

Azadeh looked up. "Mr. Foo!" she said. "I've seen better days, but Allah willing I'll see better days again. It looks like you've seen some action yourself."

"I had an argument with a grenade. By some astounding miracle, I won. This was right after I killed Buzz, the skinheads' leader, and stopped him from setting off the explosives. Unfortunately, they went off later anyway."

"Well, it's a good thing you did. If it had gone off earlier, a lot more people would have died. Probably including me."

Mr. Foo looked curiously at Kerry as she stuffed her face. "And who is this young lady?"

"Her name is Kerry," said Rosie. "It turns out there's some sort of secret prison down that flight of stairs and through a gate, and the others found her locked in a cell, half starved to death. I'm afraid she's not very talkative, though."

"And this place?"

"Hammond, Earl, and Rita had been running a criminal enterprise from the T-Bone. They're all dead now. The others found a whole bunch of guns down here, most of which they brought upstairs or kept with them."

Mr. Foo looked closely at Kerry. "Perhaps I could try hypnosis. It may help her relax and deal with what she's been through."

Rosie looked at him with wonder. "You know hypnosis?"

"It only works if the subject is willing and cooperative, and I'm no master, but I can give it a good try." He took out a silver pocketwatch and dangled it in front of Kerry's face. The young woman seemed fascinated by the shiny object as it swung before her eyes. "I want you to relax, Kerry. Clear your mind of all distractions."

Kerry stared blankly at him, but this blank stare was clearly different from her usual one. She slowed down her breathing and truly seemed calm for the first time.

"She sleeping?" whispered Mrs. Foo, as if afraid to wake her.

Her husband shook his head and smiled. "No, no, she's perfectly conscious. I could command her to sleep now, but I think we need her sensible and talking."

In the reception area-
"Let's see if we can plug the laptop in somewhere," suggested Stephanie. "That way we can conserve battery power and keep it charged." She quickly found a socket located in the wall behind the desk. "Ah, there we go. As long as the generator's on, we can plug it in. Hmm. These old sockets are the 2-hole variety. I hope the laptop plug isn't the 3-prong kind." She pulled it out of the case. "Yes!" she said. She plugged the computer into the socket and turned it on.

(Note that when you roll Spot Hidden to search down here, you should specify where specifically you are searching and, if you know, what you're looking for.)

"Where's Sean?" Stephanie asked as she waited for the laptop to boot up. From Dr. Hausmann's pained expression she could tell the answer wasn't good. "Oh, no..."

"That vile Hammond murdered him," said the doctor. "I have to admit I lost it for a while back there."

"He gave his life in the line of duty," said Bo. "He did everything he could to help make sure you two get to Omaha. He died a hero."

Stephanie patted Dr. Hausmann on the shoulder. "Don't feel ashamed," she said. "I don't know what I would have done if I'd lost you."

"You would have done what you had to do and finished my work," said Dr. Hausmann. "You're the steadiest person I've ever met. I know I can depend on you."

"That's why you put that back door into your computer. And the text file you left on the desktop. 'If you're reading this, I must be dead...'"

"Well, I'm not. But if anything happens to me, you need to know what I know. I put those things on mein computer while you went to the garage, and I didn't have a chance to tell you. I had hoped you'd be clever enough to figure it out, and I was right. If I don't make it, I know you can complete this."

"Oh, Brigetta, don't talk like that. Besides, I'm not half the genius you are."

"We must be realistic. The world is not the same place it was yesterday. And you are very smart and resourceful, Stephanie. I know you have what it takes."

"Well, I guess so. I'm discovering all sorts of things about myself and my capabilities I never knew before."

In the kitchen-
Sally tried a sink's faucet. To her surprise, water flowed freely from it after a brief splutter. However, it had the unmistakeable reddish-brown tinge of rust. "Well, at least that's something," she said, shutting off the tap, "but I wouldn't drink that without boiling it first. I wonder what's through there?" Sally pointed at the door at the rear of the kitchen.

"There's only one way to find out," said Robert. He approached the door while the others covered him. Then he opened it and looked inside. On the other side of the door was a large pantry stocked with cans of food with old-style labels. Several more rats were in the room, but they scurried into the darkness as soon as the door opened.

Hotel

"Corporal!" shouted Ortega, Unphased by the undead . Manuel took aim at the nearist of the fast movers; taking a quick shot, but Missed by feet .

North of the T-bone

"Woah!" Shouted Wallace, turning to the Captain. Wallace tries to find the words; but he draws a blank. The only words that came to mind were "Don't!"

Concrete Devider

"Damnit!" Shouted Hockey, Knowing that he was a better Automatic Riflemen than this.

Kitchen

Duke Switched his flashlight on, fallowing Robert. "Ya Know... The smell isn't all that bad. Kinda reminds me of home" Said Duke chuckeling.

OCC - BIG EDIT due to line of sight!

IC -

On patrol -

Luke continues his patrol now that others are taking care of Samantha. Words of comfort were never his strongsuit anyway. Most people thought of him as a cold bastard anyway and that was just fine in his book.

In the reception area -

"There is no choice but to carry on, no matter the cost. Not only our lives are at stake, but perhaps you hold information that could save thousands, millions even." Bob says.

In the Comm Room:
McCain said, "I will send for Sgt. Black to come to the comm room. If that is all I will take my leave now." He about faced and walked out into the hallway.

Lewis said, "Lt. Malone, I am going to go find a good spot for us upstars, I will be right back." Lewis rushed into the hall and saw McCain at the west door. "Sgt. McCain," he called out.

McCain stopped and turned. Lewis hurried up to him and said, "Listen I know we do not know each other very well but....well its like this. I do not think the brass is going to let us come back. We have been sacrificed which is why they put Captian Lereux in command."

McCain said, "That man is unqualfied and further more this mission is a waste of precious millitary resources and dangerous."

Lewis nodded and said, "We need to use the resources we have here to have any chance of success and that means using the T-bone survivors not keeping them locked up. Is there anyway that we can take Lereux out and give command to you?"

McCain stared at Lewis, "That is a coup and we are not having this conversation." He then turned and went out the door.

Lewis sighed and walked upstairs to hunt for a room.
(edit- welsh)

West side of motel edge of field:
McCain shook his head as he walked out the door to the west side of the motel and toward the edge of the field. On his radio he called, "Sgt. Black, you are needed in the Comm room ASAP."

He then looked around the field and saw something moving! "Targets in the field, I repeat targets in the field" McCain put his M4 to his shoulder and prepared to fire.

In the garage:
Alice nodded at David and then continued to pace up and down. The sun glare was too much for her but she thought she heard something moving. "Quiet guys," she said.

In the reception area, underneath the T-bone, guarding the gate:
Jim Kerr heard the conversation but he was growing bored and thought of his girl back home and wondered if she was still alive. He then slapped himself and muttered to stay awake and alert. Looking around he thought he saw something and heard something. He turned to the source of the sound and listened carefully straining his eyes to see into the darkness.

On the Roof-
"Copy that" Black replies "Here use this until I get back" Black says to Sheen leaving his rifle on the roof as he climbs down the rope ladder First they want me to shot then go to the comm room. Black thinks to himself. It's like the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.

In The truck-
"First though we should find out both the current political cituation
and what we plan on doing after the chopper gets here."

Joe says as he gets out of the truck.

Inside Motel, Second Floor Hallway:
As he walked around upstairs looking for a good room that would work and also be able to be defended, Lewis thought about why the NATO radios were being answered by a French man. After all one of the langrauges of NATO was English. As he thought and thought, he realized what could be a very good reason. He grunted to himself in satisfaction.

West side of motel, edge of field:
McCain blinked as he saw the horror in the field. It was a close thing but he did not go insane.

West of the motel-
Lewis realized that he didn't know what was going on at NATO HQ, but if it was anything like the rest of the world, they had problems of their own and may be short on manpower. They could be facing the same dilemma that his team had, trying to decide if they could afford to pull an English-speaker away from something else. Both French and English were NATO's official languages, so it's not surprising that someone there would speak French. That didn't necessarily make him a Frenchman, though. Many Belgians also spoke French, and NATO HQ was in Belgium.

All of the motel rooms were pretty much the same. The doors were all locked, but Lt. Malone had the keys. By peering in the windows, Lewis could tell that they had beds, assorted other furniture, and TVs (which weren't working). If they used the room closest to the top of the only unblocked stairway, they could avoid delays in setting the equipment up. However, until that stairway was blockaded after them they would be vulnerable.

Corporal Alanen looked back when he heard McCain's warning, and immediately wished he hadn't. One of the creatures had had a huge hole blown in its belly by a shotgun blast at close range, and another had had its side badly chewed up. The sight was too much for him to bear, and he understood that these things could not possibly be alive. He began to babble incoherently, his mind gone.

All four of the ghouls rushed Alanen, but none of them stepped on the Claymore he had just planted. They swarmed all over him, two of them bearing him down to the ground while he was bitten a couple of times. One munched on his arm, while another gnawed his leg. He screamed in agony at the pain, but did not pass out.

McCain saw the horrible sight in all its gory details as he lined up a shot, as did Thayer and Phillips. Thayer was extremely disturbed to see his corporal go down in such a dreadful fashion. He could not cope, and he knew that the man was doomed. Filled with rage, he took out a grenade, pulled the pin, and hurled it with all his might. "Die, you bastards!" he shrieked. "Die! Die! DIE!"

Thayer's throw was right on target. The grenade landed right in the middle of the group of creatures and exploded, spraying the field with metal fragments, blowing the arm off of one, the legs off of two others, and peppering the head of the last one with shrapnel. Alanen's leg was also blown off. The damage was quite severe, but only the ghoul that was hit in the head was slain - as was Corporal Alanen.

(McCain, Ortega , and Lewis, roll Sanity.)

Phillips gaped in shock, but managed to keep his jittery nerves under control. "Alanen's down!" he cried. "Man, this is totally FUBAR!" He took aim at the head of one of the things and fired, hitting it squarely in the forehead and splattering its brains. Only two more remained.

(McCain may fire this round, as may Ortega provided he passes a Spot Hidden check - I don't think Stompie rolled it for him last round. Lewis may also fire his Beretta if he succeeds at a Spot Hidden roll. He may fire twice at the same target, but since the zombies are 50 yards away this will be at half skill with an extra 5% penalty for a headshot. Sheen may fire if he passes a Spot Hidden roll. Black is on the ground on the east side of the motel. He can make it into the comm room this round, in which case he should make a French roll. He can alternatively pass through the motel and out the exit on the west side, in which case he may roll Spot Hidden this round. He may not, however, fire until next round. If either of them succeed at their Spot Hidden rolls, they must also roll Sanity. Nobody else is in a position to see what happened in the field.)

On the roof of the motel-
Bobby Sheen remained on the roof while Sergeant Black climbed down the ladder. The Barrett sniper rifle remained by his side, resting on its bipod and ready to be fired.

In the comm room-
Lt. Malone, Mikhalin, and Malanowski all heard the explosion to the west. "What the hell?" said the lieutenant. "Was that a Claymore going off?"

(Malanowski, roll Know.)

On the other end of the line, the French-speaking man said "Merde!" Apparently there were problems on his end too.

East of the motel-
Sam Black reached the bottom of the ladder just as the grenade went off.

North of the T-Bone-
"You can't just shoot me!" protested Kimberly. "I'm a federal agent, for crying out loud!"

"Sir," said Duran, "you can't be serious!"

"I won't let you kill her!" shouted Zorie Spooner, stepping between Captain Lereux and Kimberly.

Lereux sighed with exasperation. "I'm just taking a precaution. I won't kill her unless she turns or she makes any funny moves with her SPAS-12. I'd be doing her a favor, though. Now get out of the line of fire, Spooner! Do what you can to treat her, run whatever tests you need. I'll cover you. Just don't do anything reckless like that again."

Zorie Spooner nodded and took Kimberly aside. "Let me check you out now," she said. She started cleaning the wound.

"Is it true what he said," asked Kimberly, "about me being infected?"

"I'm afraid so, but maybe we can find a cure. Everyone who has been bitten has been infected, no exceptions. I'm not sure if I can do anything but make you comfortable. You've got a tourniquet, which will slow down the infection, but even so it'll only take a couple of hours. How long ago did it happen?"

"Must have been about fifteen, twenty minutes ago. Look, maybe I can help you find out more about this disease while I've got time. I'm an expert in pharmacology."

"Duran," said Lereux, "go plant that last Claymore and put up the warning sign, then return to your fire team." Duran got to work, but he was distracted by the explosion coming from the southwest. The captain got on the radio. "What's going on out there?"

At the concrete divider-
Cole and Hockey also heard the detonation in the field, but could not see what was going on from their current position.

At the garage-
"Good thinking," said Erica Spears, following Joe Barring. "Neither of us have been here before, so let's find out what the score is." Baldwin led them to the garage, while Michael remained in the truck.

Alice heard footsteps on the north side of the garage, coming from outside. It sounded like just one person. She also heard a few more people coming from just outside, which turned out to be Baldwin and the two State Troopers.

"What's going on here, David?" asked Baldwin. "Looks like I missed a lot."

"You might say that, Balders," said David, continuing to work on the truck. "We had a couple hundred of those critters coming for us, and then those PMS assholes showed up and practically blew the place sky high. It's a wonder any of us survived. We're going to evacuate just as soon as we finish repairing Wallace's tanker. Should take a few hours."

"Where are the crackers now?"

"A few of them got away in their pickup truck on the north road. Went back to their compound, I guess. Their leader, Buzz, didn't make it. The old Chinese dude at the motel just mowed him down, and he never saw it coming. You should have seen it!"

"Wish I had. We've got to go after them and finish them off."

"I think we ought to look after ourselves first."

"You don't understand. There are people being held captive up there in cages. We've got to get them out! Where can we find some more weapons and ammo? We're almost dry."

"The others found some crates full of guns in Hammond and Earl's secret stash downstairs. They brought most of them up and out the back door. There's also some guns and ammo on the people who were killed in the blast, but those guns will need cleaning if they even still work at all."

East of the diner-
Luke left on his patrol route, walking through the parking lot on the south side of the diner. Meanwhile, Mitchell went around the north side of the diner towards the garage and reloaded his shotgun.

Samantha kept crying while Beth held her and patted her back.

"I'm going to go catch up to Mr. Foo," said Ellen. She headed into the diner and down the stairs.

Jenny looked around uncertainly, a rifle in each hand. She noticed a pair of teenagers to the east, a boy and a girl, shambling towards them in the distance. "We've got more company!" she shouted, pointing.

In the warehouse-
"Listen to me, Kerry," said Mr. Foo. "You do not need to be afraid. You are strong. You are courageous. The things that happened to you are over." Kerry seemed to be responding a little, but she remained distant.

Azadeh claimed the M79 grenade launcher and its ammo from the crate, loading one of the rounds.

In the reception area-
"Perhaps, Bob," said Dr. Hausmann, "but we ourselves must survive in order to save those lives. Why don't you and Jim stand at the top of the stairs on the other side of the gate, so you can better see anything coming down?"

From his position at the gate, Jim Kerr could see the new arrivals in the warehouse and could hear their conversation.

Stephanie nodded at Bob's words. "You're right," she said. She leaned over the computer, which had finished booting up, and smiled at Dr. Hausmann. "Let's save the world."

"Gather around," said Dr. Hausmann to Angela Blanco and Javier Ramirez. "Pay close attention as I show you how to use the software."

Stephanie easily picked up how to use the decoding software. "I think I'm getting the hang of this," she said. "Yeah, I can do this. What exactly is it that I'm decoding here? I only got a brief glance at that text file."

"Listen, and I shall tell you." Dr. Hausmann lowered her voice to a whisper.

In the pantry-
"Remind me not to set foot in your home, then," said Robert, grinning. "I hope the food in your fridge is fresher."

Sally looked around the pantry, but noticed nothing out of the ordinary. Lynne also looked around, but she didn't see anything either.

Gary picked up and examined some of the cans of food. "I don't think we can eat this stuff either," he said. "The most recent expiration date on these cans is September 20, 1961."

"Too bad they're not Twinkies," said Robert. "Otherwise they'd still be good. If we're done in here, let's go back to the hall and try one of the other doors."

Motel

Ortega cannot cope with his fire-team lead's death and drops to his knees, his weapon falling to the floor. Ortega sits up against the balcony's railing. He unclasps his holster; and rests his hand on the deck.

Concrete Devider

"Shit!" said Hockey, upon hearing the explosion. "Corporal?"

West of the Motel

"Alright then. Think we sould haul ass out of here?" asked Wallace "Those motherfuckers' aren't slowin down." Said the indian, pulling the hammer back on his pistol.

Pantry

"Shit, Man. You know my mom was a packrat." Said Duke, with a smirk.

So let me get this right. If Lewis succeeds at Spot Hidden, then he can fire twice this round at the same target but he needs to fire at half +5% of his skill for a headshot?

OOC- You've got it, Steve, provided Lewis does not go insane, of course. If you make your Spot Hidden roll and remain sane, you may roll two shots at the same zombie at half skill. Since his skill is 55%, half of that is 27%. If you're going for the head, deduct another 5%, which means you need 22% or less to hit with each shot.

EDIT: Alternatively, he may also pick up Ortega's dropped rifle and use that with no range penalty. His skill is 35%, so that means he needs 30% for a headshot. He would, however, only get to shoot once.

Stompie, Ortega's temporary insanity is that he flees in panic. This will last for 13 rounds, including this one.

West of the motel-
Ortega sprang to his feet and took off running along the balcony, leaving his rifle behind. He reached the unblocked stairway at the southwest corner and bolted down the stairs in panic.

North of the T-Bone-
"I guess it doesn't matter much in my case," said Kimberly, "but you should get out if you can. Of course, those things will be all over the place, wherever you go. You need to organize and get your truck fixed before you leave, though."

In the underground mess hall-
"Unless she started when she was a baby," said Robert, "her food collection has to be newer than this stuff. Guess there's nothing else for us in here." He led the group back toward the hallway, encountering Randall as he entered the mess hall.

"Hey, guys," said Randall. "The State Trooper and those men from the chopper are taking over guard duty, so I'm free to join you in exploring this place now. Find anything?"

"The water's still flowing, but it's rusty and probably needs to be boiled if you're going to drink it. Unless 50 year old chow is your thing, that's about it." They returned to the hall. "Which door should we try next?"

At the concrete divider -

"Stand fast, Hockey." Cole replies "Hold what you've got. They'll call for us if we're needed."

"Cole here, get me a sitrep." he says into his radio.

On patrol -

Luke follows Jenny's extended arm and tries to identify the targets through his scope. He's not expecting anything other than zombies though.

At the stairs -

Bob takes up guard position, but but feels uncertain. He's not the best gunman around, but he guesses he'll have to do for now...

West side of the motel, balcony level:
Turning from the door, Lewis saw Cpl Alanen go down surronded by creatures and his mind snapped. Luckly he did not go insane. After throwing up he breathed slowly and looked around the corner to see if he could get a good shot off at the creatures. He saw them and realized he could get a good shot off. Pulling his pistol he aimed at one of the creatures heads and fired twice. Both shots missed however. He silently cursed and aimed again.

West side of the motel, ground level:
McCain saw the gory death of Cpl Alanen and breathed slowly. However his mind went blank as it digested what had just occured. McCain bent over and threw up on the pavement. He then yelled in his mike and began to laugh outloud like a crazy man, which he was.

At the Garage:
Alice listened to the conversation and said, "David, I think when we get the truck fixed we should get in and drive to the PMS compound and save the people there even if it means fighting them and some of us dying. After that we can drive to Idaho and my families place. Does that sound good my heart?"

In the Reception Area, guarding the gate:
Jim stood at the gate and looked closely at Dr. Hausmann and Stephanie trying to hear them whisper. He heard them talking but not everything. He cleared his throat and said, "Dr Hausmann, I can guard from where I am at and there should be no secrets anymore. We all can die or we all can live but if you hold the key then we all need to know cause you could die. What do you say?" However he saw by her eyes he had not convinced her. "To hell with this, I am going to do something that matters then!" He walked away from the gate toward the tunnels where he saw that Randall had gone.

OOC- When your character goes temporarily insane, I'll roll on a chart to determine the nature of that insanity and how long it lasts. Not all insane characters will run away (Thayer, for example). Successful use of the Psychoanalysis skill will bring an early end to temporary insanity.

In this case, McCain's insanity is physical hysteria or emotional outburst (such as laughing, crying, etc.; screaming works too). He does not run away. You can roleplay this as you see fit, but McCain will not be shooting zombies or going anywhere on his own while he's in this state. This insanity lasts for 7 rounds, including this one.

IC-
At the garage-
"Well," said David, "I'd sure like to help them, but this is very dangerous. I don't want anything to happen to you, Alice."

(Alice, roll Persuade - the skill level is 50%.)

In the reception area-
Jim Kerr couldn't make out Dr. Hausmann's whispers from his position near the gate, and she paused as soon as he came near. "Jim, wait!" she called as he headed into the hall.

"This does matter, Jim!" said Stephanie. "It matters more than you can imagine. And Bob's going to need some backup. Don't leave him guarding the gate by himself."

"Jim," said Bo as he went by, "you really should stay here and help us protect the ladies."

Motel

Ortega began barreling down the stairwell; screaming, Withdrawing his handgun.

Pantry

"Err... Well - Mom liked... Seasoned fruit for some reason... " Duke said, smirking. "Thats probably why I avoided mom's cooking like the black fuckin' plegue."

West of the Motel

"I'm... So sorry, Kim" Said Wallace, Looking back, the way they had came. "We've gotta get going." Said Wallace.

west side of the motel:
McCain dropped his M-4 on the ground and putting his hands to his face continued to scream and laugh. He grabbed his mike and began to curse Leurux as well as screaming in the mike.

In the Garage:
Alice looked at David and said, "Honey bear, you don't have to worry about me, I can take care of myself." Alice saw that David was not buying it so she went up to him and rubbed against him then said in a pout, "If you don't agree, you don't get any!"

Reception Area:
Jim stopped and looked back, " I am a police officer. Hunting down these creatures will stop them more then you trying to program a cure that will work in 5 years. I will leave to do what I want unless you tell everyone in this room what is going on. The choice is yours!"

On patrol -

While spotting the two zombies, Luke keeps his cool, as was to be expected. He lines up the sights, the rifle cracks, the bullet hits the target and the first zombie goes down.

At the concrete divider -

"This is Cole, clear the fucking airwaves or I'll stomp your guts out whomever you are, and get me a situation report, goddamn it!" Cole barks into his radio.

"For fucks sake! This is going to hell in a handbasket." Cole says to Hockey "Stay here and when in doubt, hose it down with that SAW. I'm going to see what the fuck is going on out there."

Cole then runs to a location where he can get a line of sight to what is going on.
