IC- Zombie Apocalypse Chapter 2- The Quick and the Undead

On The roof-

"Wait until they get closer to fire." Black says over the radio.
He calmly uses the laser sights to line up his first shot. It hits the advancing creature in the head right between the eyes blowing the head clean off. Without saying a word he continues his next shot hit one in the eye again blowing off it's head the next target was also hit in the eye the creature fell to the ground with only half a face. His next shot hit one of the right in the center of it's forehead blowing off the top of it's head. He targeted one more held his breath and hit one more between the eyes it to fell headless to the ground. "Scratch five hostiles"

In the reception area-
"I've heard about it to just didn't think much of it untill now"

North of the T-bone

Wallace Turned towards the Diner's parkinglot, and began towards it, quickly, though very colected

Command center

"We're fucked!" Shouted Ortega, his eyes fixed on his boots.

Concrete Devider

"Well then, Duran. Think We sould go snag some ammo? We're gonna need it."

Barracks

Duke dwells on the letter for a moment, but Draws a blank

OOC- Don't forget that when you're shooting and you roll 1/5 of yours skill or less, this is an impale and you do double damage. For Black, this would be on a 19% or less when using the laser sight (since 97% is his effective maximum skill) or 17% or less when he can't and he's going for a headshot, and he would do 4d10+2d8+12 damage instead of 2d10+1d8+6. In this case, though, he did more than enough damage to kill the zombies anyway.

Total zombies from the north killed so far: 5

IC-
West of the motel-
Phillips ran across the field, his medical kit in hand. He reached Alanen and crouched beside him. The man was twitching, and his skin was deathly pale. "Hang in there, man," said the medic. "Try not to move." He opened his medical bag and rooted around inside.

Suddenly, Alanen's eyelids snapped open, revealing two malevolent red orbs. Phillips recoiled in shock at the sight, but did not entirely lose control. Alanen sat up, his arms outstretched, and wrapped them around Phillips, tackling him to the ground. His jaws narrowly missed the medic's neck.

Thayer fired another burst at Alanen which proved very accurate. All three bullets hit, raking his arms and perforating his skull. Alanen collapsed, motionless.

Malanowski followed Lewis back into the motel.

Phillips rolled the dead man off of him and stood up. "Damn fine shooting, man!" he said. "I'm okay, fellas! I'm not hurt!" He shook his head. "Real shame about Alanen. At least I can salvage his equipment." He checked out his stuff, and fortunately all of it was still in working order except for the extra Claymore he had been carrying. Phillips collected the rest of the gear. He slung the SAW and the extra LAW rocket on his back, strapped the holster with the pistol around his waist, and stripped the corpse of its armor and helmet, the latter of which had a hole cleanly drilled through it. He stuffed these and the spare ammo in his pack and ran for the motel as fast as he could. He was quite strong, and it did not slow him much.

On the roof of the motel-
Black took down five of the enemy, a living example of the sniper's adage of "one shot, one kill." He knew that even with Sheen's help he wouldn't be able to take out all of them before they arrived. They would need support from the others to accomplish that.

(Black has two bullets left in his clip, so he gets to fire four times this round since he must reload at some point. Sheen can fire three times this round without a range penalty. I'll roll for him if he's ordered to fire and Gonzalez doesn't post.)

In the comm room-
Malanowski came in behind Lewis.

"Yes," said Lt. Malone, "let's get started dismantling and moving the gear while we have time. Take note of how everything is connected so we can install it later, and be careful with the equipment. A lot of it is fragile. Let me just sign off." She ignored Ortega and spoke into the microphone. "We don't have any British personnel with us, sorry. Thank you for your help, Captain. We need to start moving this gear to a more secure location, and from what I hear you have other things you need to do."

"Cheerio, then!" said Miranda Reynolds.

Alexandria Mikhalin was about to start unplugging the gear when another alert came in. "Ma'am, Helsinki just went nuclear!" she said.

Malone quickly spoke into the microphone again and reported this to Captain Reynolds.

"It wasn't us," she said a moment later.

At the concrete divider-
Captain Lereux raised his loudspeaker and announced: "There is a large group of infected people on its way here from the north, due to arrive in a little over five minutes! We will do our best to eliminate them, but I would advise you to see to your defenses. Any assistance you can provide would be appreciated." Then he shut the loudspeaker off and turned to Duran. "Let's fall back to the motel. Any suggestions for our defense?"

"Yes, sir," said Duran as he and Hockey followed him back to the east side of the motel. "I suggest we redeploy our fire team to the balcony, at the northeast corner. We've got time to get up there before the hostiles come into range, and from there we can cover not only the north, but also the east. Fire team 2 can cover the north and the west. While we're going up there, we may as well bring the ammo crate with us so we can all get at the extra ammo if we need it. Only the snipers won't be able to get to it, but they've got plenty on them for now."

"Good. Do it." The three of them arrived at the east side of the motel. Duran and Hockey each lifted one end of the ammo crate, and the two very strong men were able to carry it without difficulty.

At the garage-
Wallace reached the entrance to the garage, where he could see Mitchell, David, and Jimmy working on his truck.

"Hey, Wallace!" said Mitchell. "We found the part and we're making some good progress towards the repairs. Should be done a little after 1:30, or maybe even around 1:00 if we get a little more help. We've gotten enough done that we think you can just drive it back into the garage, and then we could seal the doors. With more of those things coming, that might be a good idea."

(It will take two rounds to back the truck into the garage, during which time repairs will have to be suspended. The first round is needed to start the truck, and the second to slowly and carefully back it in. In the second round, the driver will need to roll Drive Truck since the brakes have not had a chance to bleed. After the truck is fully in the garage, it will take one round to close the doors. Repairs can continue during that time.)

In front of the diner-
"Not so fast," said Erica Spears. "Let me have a look around too."

Baldwin gave Alice an odd look. "You going to shave your head bald?" he asked. "Then go in there alone? Are you nuts? We don't even know if they let girls into their little club, and you're just a stranger to them. For all you know they'll grab you and lock you up in one of their cages. If anyone's going to do this, it'll have to be someone they know - or someone who can get in without being seen."

"Well, I've got nothing," said Erica. There were just too many bodies lying around, and none of them were familiar to her.

Baldwin had better luck. He recognized some of the corpses from when he had been at the diner earlier. "Yeah, here we go," he said, waving the others over. He found eight .38 bullets on Rita's body and pocketed them. "Well, what do you know? The bitch was good for something after all." Her .38 revolver was still in working order and still had two bullets in it, and Charlie's Remington Sportsman 74 was also functional, if a bit dirty. Baldwin took both weapons and the extra rifle clips. "If anyone else needs a pistol, this one's okay, but it ought to be cleaned first. Maybe someone at the garage can use it."

Erica retrieved Luke's sniper rifle, which was still usable, but Hammond's .357 Magnum was broken beyond repair. She took the rifle and ammo for herself from the dead priest who had been using them and expertly snapped a fresh magazine into place. "Too bad we couldn't use this other gun too." She kicked the broken revolver.

"Wallace could have used the ammo for it, but I don't see any. There are supposed to be more guns and ammo in some crates behind the diner. We can get there faster if we cut through."

East of the diner-
Luke climbed up the ladder to the roof.

Samantha took the remaining 5.56mm magazines from one of the crates and then looked at Jenny and Willie. "We've all got rifles," she said, "so we can take out a bunch of those zombies before they can get close. It should be okay for the two of them to be on what's left of the roof, but I don't know how stable it is. Could be risky if we all climbed up there. The roof of the garage should be okay, though, but if we take the ladder then they won't be able to get back down. Well, not without taking a chance on getting hurt."

On the roof of the diner-
Luke found a position that gave him a good line of sight on the north road and set up his sleeping bag.

(Luke may now take five shots per round, with no range penalty.)

Beth watched the approaching zombies, waiting for them to get close enough for her to have a decent chance of hitting them.

In the warehouse-
Mr. Foo frowned. "Let me try to put her under again," he said. He once again dangled his pocketwatch in front of Kerry's eyes and spoke softly to her, and once more she entered into a trance. "Reliving this experience will be very traumatic for her. I had better do what I can to restore her mind first." However, he still had no luck.

Kimberly and Zorie Spooner arrived in the warehouse.

In the reception area-
Stephanie listened to Dr. Hausmann's tale with utter fascination, while Angela Blanco regarded her with skepticism. They could not see Bo's face since his back was to them, but if they had it would not have helped: he had a perfect poker face.

"That has to be absolutely the most insane thing I have ever heard," said Lt. Blanco.

Dr. Hausmann frowned. "This was a mistake," she said. "I should not have told you anything."

"Don't say that," said Stephanie. "I believe you, and I'm sure we can convince the others. Just look at what you've seen on this computer. Isn't that proof enough?"

"All it's proof of is an obsessed mind," said Angela.

"Bo, you believe her, don't you?"

"Believe her?" he replied. "I didn't even understand her."

"Please, she knows what she's talking about. Everything she's said confirms what I know from other sources. She wouldn't make this kind of thing up."

"I believe that you believe her. I'd need to see some proof to be convinced myself. I will keep an open mind, and I will of course still do everything in my power to get you both to Omaha. You two are brilliant, and the best hope we have of stopping this disaster."

Stephanie blushed, hunching over the laptop and typing rapidly.

In the bathroom-
Jim Kerr and Gary both approached the sink cautiously. Only a small amount of the red substance had come up from the drain. It had no discernable odor.

"What would blood be doing down there?" asked Gary.

"I said it looked like blood," said Sally. "It's probably something else, but I have no clue what. I wouldn't touch it, though."

"Let's go check one of the other doors in the hallway. We're not going to find the generator in here." They returned to the barracks.

Reaching Phillips & Thayer -

"Alanen got infected and attacked you? Shouldn't he have been dead?" Cole asks, but it was more a question to himself than to anyone else.

Cole tried to shove aside the death of his good friend and remain pragmatic, they would soon be under attack...

"Alright, Phillips give me that .45, give Thayer the LAW and split the extra grenades amongst us three. Then take the SAW and reposition it to an adequate defensive position on this side of the compound." Cole orders with his mind already back on Hockey's and Duran's side, trying to figure out the best defense "And stick together!"

On the roof -

Lying comfortably, Luke scores three instant kills (14, 14, 12 dmg), one wounded (6dmg) and one miss.

Concrete Devider

"Right. Balcony." Said Hockey. "Like I said, might not be a bad idea to go grab some extra ammo."

Garrage

"No Shit?" He asked, walking towards the truck. "What the hell happened here?" He asked, looking over his shoulder. "And where can I find a decent rifle?"

Comm Room

Ortega's eyes, still fixed on his boots closed. They opened widely, his puples wide. "Those fuckers did this!" Shouted Ortega

[[/b]

West side of motel, ground level:
McCain looked up from the ground he was sitting on and noticed troops beginning to move. Grabbing the mike on his helmet, he screamed into it, "Don't leave me, I am going to die here if I am left alone." He then pushed the mike away from his face, rolled into a fetal ball, and sobbed.

In the Comm Room:
Lewis heard the radio chatter and grabbed a few nonessantal parts disconnecting their wires while memorizing where they went.
He then turned to Lt. Malone and asked her for the key before lugging them up the stairs to the hallway of the rooms.

West side of motel, balcony level:
Lewis put down the equipment and on his radio asked, "Lt. Malone what room do you wish to set up as the new communication room?"

In front of the diner:
Alice grabbed the .38 and put it in her pocket. She then turned to the group and tried to act like a skinhead but she saw it was not working as she was very bad. Sighing she turned to Baldwin and walking up to him said, "I need to prove that my skills are useful for here and now. Otherwise I might as well just throw myself to the zombies. Can't you please let me help out? There will be something special in it for you if you do!" As she said this she rubbed against him. "Oh and by the way, does anyone have extra .38 ammo?"

In the barracks:
Jim looked around and said, "We need to finish looking around. We can't just stay here." He pulled his pistol and said, "Follow me"

In the Hallway:
Jim went to the far end of the hallway to the left door and pushing himself to the side of the door with his pistol pointed up said, "Somebody cover me."

On the roof of the motel-
"Open fire Sheen." He goes back to aiming. Looking through the sights of his scope he targets one of the front runners. The bullet hit it in the face blowing most of it off. His next shot hit above the creatures left eye destroying most of its face. Black quickly switched out the empty clip for a new one and continued to fire his next shot hit his next target in the center of the forehead destroying it's head in a flash of bone and blood. The next unlucky target was also hit in the center of the forehead and had its head destroyed "Scratch four hostiles"

OOC- Total number of zombie kills (including this round so far): 15
One zombie has a head wound for 7 damage

IC-
In the motel-
Captain Lereux cut through the motel's front door, followed by Duran and Hockey carrying the ammo crate. "Let's lock the door behind us, just in case," he said, locking it. Then he called to Malone. "We're going up to the balcony, Lieutenant. You and your people stay in the comm room for now. If we can't reduce the enemy's numbers enough, we'll let you know so you can join us on the balcony. In the meantime, we'll lock the doors." He led his men out the back door.

West of the motel-
Thayer saw the horde coming in the distance from the north and took off at a run towards them as Lereux emerged from the back door. "Where do you think you're going, Airman?" he called. "Get back here!" But Thayer did not give any indication that he was listening. The captain pulled McCain to his feet. "Come on, we need to get upstairs!" He pulled him over to the unblocked stairway in the southwest corner. Duran and Hockey arrived there just as Cole did. Phillips was close behind them, panting for breath.

"What happened, Phillips?" asked Lereux.

"It was...Alanen, sir," he said, recovering. "He was infected. He got back up and tackled me, but Thayer blew his brains out before he could bite me. I saw his eyes, sir. They were red as the fires of hell." He shivered involuntarily. "It's like nothing I've ever seen before."

"You might have been infected. You must not have any physical contact with any of our people. Put Alanen's equipment in the crate here, then join us on the balcony but keep your distance. We can take what we want from the crate as needed. We'll have Dr. Blanco or Zorie Spooner take a look at you after this attack is dealt with."

"Yes, sir." said Phillips, taking this in stride and placing his heavy load inside the ammo crate. "I also grabbed his rations while I was at it. There's no telling how long they'll leave us out here with those demons, sir."

On the roof of the motel-
"I'm on it, Sarge," said Bobby Sheen, lining up his first target. He took careful aim, hitting with all three shots and scoring a kill with each one. "Sweet! Three more terminated!"

(Black can fire five times this round. Sheen must reload, and can also fire twice.)

In the comm room-
"Hold on there, Lewis!" said Malone. "We're not quite ready yet to start moving this stuff. We need to find out what happened in Helsinki and then call back to base one last time first. When we are ready, I want us to dismantle everything first, which should take about ten minutes. Once that's done we'll move everything upstairs in order to minimize the time we spend outside. We'll be using the room closest to the stairs. I know it's risky, but the less time Warren stays blind, the better. You should get back here."

Mikhalin traced back the trajectory of the missile that had taken out Helsinki. "Ma'am, the missile came from a sub in the Arctic Ocean," she reported. "I'm listening in on the Russians again now to see what they know about it, but I can't make out what they're saying."

"Let me try." Malone listened to the Russian chatter too, and was able to understand it. "The Russians did it, all right. Apparently Finland asked them to because the city was overrun and they thought they could contain the infection by nuking it. They've also received similar requests from Estonia and Latvia, and they're trying to decide what to do about them."

"If only we could warn them somehow, ma'am."

"Well, we can't. This is a closed network, and besides, it would be a serious breach of protocol even if we could talk to them." Malone contacted Warren AFB and filled them in. "NATO command is going to get the word out not to use nuclear weapons. I think we've done all we can for now, sir. This time we have to sign off. A large group of infected people is closing in on our position. If we make it through this, it'll take about 45 minutes for us to set everything up upstairs."

"Excellent work," said Lt. Colonel Carmichael. "We need you up and running again as soon as possible. Over and out."

At the garage-
"You missed a lot," said Mitchell. "Those skinheads showed up, and so did a couple hundred of those zombies. They set off a big bomb, and a lot of people died. If you want rifles, I brought up a couple of crates full of guns and ammo that Hammond and Earl had hidden away in a secret warehouse under the liquor closet. They're right outside the back door, but I'm not sure what's left by this point. Samantha had your rifle the last time I saw her. If you're gonna move the truck inside, you'd better do it fast."

"If you don't want to do it," said David, "I can back her in if you give me the keys."

In front of the diner-
"Damn, girl," said Baldwin, swapping out his rifle's magazine for a full one, "you're trouble, you know that?" He handed her 7 of the bullets he'd taken from Rita's corpse. "That's half my ammo I've given you, but it's still not much. Better to use our rifles. I'm sure you can help out, especially since you've got a rifle and you know how to use it. Just about every zombie on Route 30 followed my truck back here.

"I also found some keys on Charlie's body. There's keys to his pickup truck, but there's another set of vehicle keys on one of those remote control keychains too."

"Come on, you two," said Erica. "We don't have time to stand around here jawing." She walked into the ruins of the diner, and Baldwin followed.

In the ruined diner-
Erica led Baldwin through the debris-strewn hallway leading from the front area of the diner to the back door. As they passed the liquor closet, she noticed Dave's corpse, the Grease gun still slung over his shoulder. "Hey, here's another gun!" she said, picking it up. "Still works, too, but it could use some cleaning. I'm not any good with one, but maybe someone else can use it." She also took the extra magazines she found.

East of the diner-
"We can't risk getting caught down here if any of those things reach us," said Samantha. She inspected the damage to the east wall. "I think it'll be okay if four people are up there, but I wouldn't want to risk any more. Willie, your rifle's got a scope, so you go up next. We need you shooting and covering the rest of us."

Willie climbed the ladder to the roof.

"What are we going to do now?" asked Jenny. "We can't both go up there."

Erica and Baldwin emerged from the back door.

On the roof of the diner-
Beth watched and waited as the mob slowly closed in, but it was still much too far for her to have a decent chance of hitting. "There's so many of them," she said. "Only about half as many as attacked us last time, but still."

Willie reached the roof and took up a position.

(Luke can fire five times. Willie can't fire this round since he climbed the ladder, but next time he will be able to fire five times as well, and with no range penalty.)

In the warehouse-
"Have you seen Dr. Blanco?" asked Zorie Spooner.

"Is she the other woman in the orange suit?" asked Azadeh. Zorie nodded. "She went down those stairs, with the people from the helicopter."

"Thanks." She and Kimberly walked past Bob and down the stairs.

"Oh, Mr. Foo. Here are the keys you lent me." Azadeh handed him the keys to the Outback.

"Thank you," he said, returning his attention to Kerry, but he still could not bring her out of her current mental state.

In the reception area-
Dr. Hausmann shook her head. "I knew they would not believe me, Stephanie," she said.

"Don't feel bad," she replied as she typed away. "It's not something most people would easily accept. There's so much more I've found out today that I need to tell you. I was thinking that since these reanimated corpses are powered by electricity, a sudden electrical shock might disrupt it and shut them down. It also occurred to me that an electromagnetic pulse could be effective. Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance yet to find out if they'll work. From what I could gather from analyzing data from the nuclear blasts in Asia earlier, the pulses seemed to either have no effect or just a temporary one. It seems like it should have an effect, though. Perhaps a continuous pulse..."

Kimberly and Zorie Spooner entered the room as she spoke. "That might work," said Dr. Hausmann, "but I think it would be more effective after we finish what we're doing. Besides, a pulse would destroy the computer, and we cannot have that."

"I know. That's why I wrapped the computers in aluminum foil, to act as a Faraday cage. An EMP would just wash over them without harming what's inside."

"Clever thinking! It would never have occurred to me to do that."

"Thank you." Stephanie glanced up and saw the new arrivals. "Oh, hi!"

"Dr. Blanco," said Zorie. "This is Kimberly, the woman I told you about. She got bitten by one of the infected in Brownson.

"Oh, no. I'm so sorry..."

"I think I'm okay," said Kimberly. "Apparently I'm immune for some reason."

"Possibly immune," said Angela Blanco. "There could be other explanations. Maybe the symptoms are delayed, or perhaps on rare occasions the bite doesn't transmit the infection. We just don't know."

"Did you come back with the helicopter?" asked Bo.

"Yeah," said Kimberly. "Erica put it down about a mile north of here, and we rode back in the truck. She didn't want to land here because she was afraid that Captain Lereux would seize the chopper."

"Would he?" asked Dr. Hausmann.

"He might," said Stephanie. "He took the computers."

"I guess we could bring the rest of the fuel out to the chopper," said Kimberly, "but there's a whole pack of those zombies between us and it. They were chasing the truck. Once they're dealt with, though, we can reach the chopper again."

In the hallway-
Robert and the others joined Jim Kerr in the hallway and covered him as he went to the far door on the left. Jim carefully opened the door and looked inside. On the other side, he could see a dusty office with no other exits. In the middle of the room, facing the door, was a desk with a chair behind it. A table with more chairs was near the front of the room, off to one side. A filing cabinet was against one wall, and at the back of the room was a bunk.

Garrage

"Alright, Dave. I'm sure you're law abiding fell'a. The keys are on the dash. Just heed this warnin', ma' friend. Take what's not you'rs... their'll be hell to pay." Said the sizable indian, making his weapon visible. "As for now, I've gotta find a rifle... Treat her well, and she'l do you the same." Said Wallace, looking back and forth between Dave, and his truck. He then turned, and headed for the weapons creat.

Hotel

Hockey makes his way towards the second floor. "Cap'n! Which floor do you want me to set up on?" Asked Hockey, Toting his M249, holding it from the hip.

Hallway

Duke enters the office, his weapon held tightly, his flashlight belted. "Might want to take a close look in here. Might find some information on thie facility."

Comm Room

Ortega Continues cowering in fear.

West of the motel-
"Hockey," said Captain Lereux, "I want you and the rest of Cole's team to set up on the northeast corner of the balcony and open fire as soon as the hostiles come into range. Leave the ammo crate in the middle of the north side of the balcony so everyone can get to it. The rest of Fire Team 2 will go on the northwest corner of the balcony."

"Sir," said Phillips. "There is no rest of Fire Team 2. They're gone."

"WHAT?!"

"Sir, Alanen's dead, Ortega dropped his rifle and ran inside, and Thayer just charged off to the north right towards the enemy."

"Just great. I guess it'll be me, you, and McCain - if he can get his act together." He spoke into his radio. "Thayer, get your ass back to the motel NOW!"

East of the diner-
Wallace emerged from the back door shortly after Erica and Baldwin did. Samantha stood nearby, as did another young woman he had never seen before.

(Wallace, roll Spot Hidden.)

In the office-
Duke entered the office and began to look around.

(Duke, roll Spot Hidden and please specify where exactly you are searching.)

On the T-Bone's roof -

Luke lines up his shots, missing once, wounding one (8 dmg) and taking down 3 others (one of which in an incredibly graphic display (13, 13 & 28 dmg)).

West of the motel -

"Negative, sir." Cole replies to the order to deploy in the motel "I'm going to get Thayer, we've lost enough of our soldiers already. Might be able to get a better shot with my M203 if I get closer anyway."

Cole starts to run immediately after announcing his intent.

West side of Motel, grond level:
McCain pulled himself from the Captians hands and dropped to the ground again screaming about creatures wanting to chew on his brain.

West side of the motel, balcony level:
Lewis heard the Lt. in his radio and got on it saying, "Yes, Mam'm coming down right now." He then picked up the gear he had just lugged up stairs and went back down the stairs sweating a bit in the heat.

In the Comm Room:
Lewis walked in and reconnected the gear he was carrying. He then collopsed in a nearby chair and said, "What do you want me to do now?"

In Front of the diner:
Looking around, Alice saw that the people were no longer with her. She went into the diner and came out the east door.

East side of the diner:
Coming out the door, Alice walked up to Baldwin and said, "Yes I know that I am trouble. Would you like to know more?" She smiled at him waiting for the response.

Underground Hallway:
Seeing that nobody was in the room, Jim put his pistol in the holster and walked into the office.

Small Office:
Jim walked into the office and went to the desk. Sitting on one of the dusty chairs he began to look through the drawers for anything of interest. However he found nothing that would be of use.
Jim got up and turning to the door said, "Nothing is here in the desk. Do you want me to search the filing cabnet now?"

OOC- Luke has killed four zombies last round, since the 8 point shot finished off the one he wounded earlier. Black killed another five, which makes for a total of 24 zombies taken out at the start of this round.

Total zombies killed (including this round so far): 28

IC-
West of the motel-
Cole grabbed one of the grenades, the Colt .45, and the extra ammo for it from the crate, then took off to the north after Thayer.

"Dammit, Cole!" shouted Captain Lereux. "Thayer has enough sense to come back on his own, and I don't want to lose him and you both if he doesn't! I need you on the balcony to cover his retreat. That's an order!"

Hockey and Duran carried the ammo crate with the rest of the supplies up the stairs to the balcony.

"Come on, Sarge," said Phillips to McCain. "I know you're scared. I'm scared too. But we've got to get up to the balcony and start shooting before they reach us." There was no getting through to him yet, though.

(This is the last round of McCain's temporary insanity.)

On the roof of the motel-
"Impressive, Sarge," said Bobby Sheen. He reloaded his M-24 as he watched Sergeant Black's perfect shooting. He took a couple of shots himself, hitting with both. The man he hit with the first shot somehow stayed on his feet, but the second shot took him down.

(Black gets only four shots this round, since he must reload again. Sheen may fire twice.)

On the motel's balcony-
Hockey and Duran set the ammo crate down on the north side of the balcony, then took up their positions on the northeast corner as ordered.

(They cannot fire this round, as they spent it moving. In the following round, they may fire at half skill. After that, they will be able to fire with no range penalty.)

In the comm room-
Lt. Malone powered down the communications gear. "We're ready to start dismantling this stuff now," she said. "There are a lot of parts and wires, so it'll take the four of us about ten minutes to take everything apart and make it ready for transport." She inclined her chin towards Ortega. "I don't think he'll be of much help, but if he comes around give him back his rifle so he can defend this place."

Malone, Mikhalin, and Malanowski got to work carefully taking apart the communications apparatus.

On the north road-
Cole raced to catch up to Thayer, but the other man had a sizeable headstart since he had been on the northwest corner of the motel when Cole had been rounding the southwest corner. Thayer was also a slightly faster runner and was about 20 yards ahead now. Still, he'd have to stop at some point.

At the garage-
"Don't worry, Wallace," David called after him. "I'll take good care of her." He slid into the driver's seat and started up the engine. "Why don't the rest of you guys move one of those fuel barrels closer to the door while I'm moving the truck, since we can't continue the repairs until it's inside?" he said to Joe Barring, Mitchell, and Jimmy.

East of the diner-
Samantha turned to greet the newcomers. "Since you've got a rifle with a scope too," she said to Erica Spears, "why don't you head up to the roof? The rest of us should head for the garage and shoot from ground level, then retreat inside when the zombies get close."

"I'll stick with you," said Jenny. She followed her around the north side of the diner.

Wallace didn't see anything out of the ordinary, but the weapon crates were in plain sight near the door. There were no rifles in any of them, but there were a double-barreled shotgun and a submachine gun, along with 18 .357 Magnum bullets and assorted other types of ammunition. Erica placed the Grease gun and magazines she had found on Dave in the crate with the other one, picked up one of the gun cleaning kits that was inside it, and then ascended the ladder.

Baldwin gave Alice a confused look. "Girl, I don't know what your problem is, but we ain't got time for this. There's a whole slew of zombies heading our way, if you hadn't noticed." He picked up two boxes of 12 gauge shotgun shells from one of the crates. "These are for Joe and Kimberly. There's some more ammo for your rifle in there. I suggest you grab what you need and then come with us."

On the roof of the diner-
Erica Spears reached the roof and found a spot from which to fire.

Willie took careful aim at the horde to the north and started shooting. His first three shots hit, the fourth missed, and the fifth caused his rifle to jam. Fortunately, two of his hits were almost perfect and all three of them were kills.

Beth shook her head. "Only about a third of them are down," she said, "and they're only a few minutes away!"

(Luke gets five more shots this round.)

In the warehouse-
Mr. Foo was still unable to bring Kerry to her senses.

"I think you're wasting your time," said Azadeh. "Just get her to keep telling her story."

"But it's causing her such pain," said Rosie. "We shouldn't force her to go through it again."

"Yes, I agree," said Mr. Foo. "It is my time to waste. Once she is herself again, then she can tell us what happened and how she ended up here."

In the reception area-
"Is there any place down here we can use as an examination room?" asked Dr. Blanco.

"Some of the others went down this hall to explore," said Bo. "Maybe they found something." He called down the hall, where most of them were gathered outside the office door, and asked them.

Sally returned partway down the corridor. "There's a mess hall and kitchen through this door," she said. "There's running water, as well as a stove and kettles so we can boil it. Just don't open the fridge, and I hope you don't mind rats."

"I guess that'll do," said Kimberly.

"I know you may not think much of me," Dr. Hausmann said to Angela Blanco, "but I can be of assistance. I am a medical doctor as well as an expert in virology." She looked nervously down the hall. "I don't like going deeper into this place, but it's not that far and they've already checked it out."

The woman in orange nodded. "Okay," she said. "You could also use some treatment for your arm. Let's go."

"I'll be covering the hall," said Bo, "so I won't let anything bad get through that door."

"Go on," said Stephanie. "I can handle this on my own."

"Ja, that sounds good," said Dr. Hausmann, rising. "Here, take the seat."

Angela Blanco, Zorie Spooner, Kimberly, Dr. Hausmann, and Sally entered the mess hall and made their way to the kitchen.

Stephanie got off of the desk, eased herself into the chair, rotated the computer so the screen faced her, and kept working without missing a beat. Once the others were out of earshot, she spoke to Javier Ramirez quietly. "I know this is a lot to ask," she said, "but I think you understand how important our work is. We're going to be leaving on that helicopter for Omaha once it's refueled, and we absolutely have to bring this laptop with us when we do. I realize you could get into trouble with your captain, but please let us take it with us. The fate of the world may depend on it."

In the kitchen-
"You're not showing any symptoms at this time," said Angela Blanco to Kimberly, "but you should still not have any physical contact with anyone but me and Zorie, just in case."

Zorie began dusting off one of the tables, while Sally started to fill kettles with water and put them on the range to boil it.

In the office-
"That's okay," said Robert to Jim Kerr as he entered. "We've got the filing cabinet covered." Robert looked through the drawers, but it was as empty as the desk. Duke found nothing either.

Gary and Randall also came into the office and started poking around. Gary's search turned up nothing, as did Randall's. Max sniffed around too, but there were no unusual scents.

"Maybe this was the base commander's office," said Randall. "If there were any papers here, it looks like they either took them with or shredded them. Makes sense, considering this is a secret facility."

Lynne came in and examined the bed, but found nothing. "Looks like he slept right in the office," she said. "They left the mattress here too." She tested it with her hand. "Still in good shape. Guess he wouldn't have gotten much action down here, unless he liked playing 'solitaire.' She fanned the deck of cards she had found, then put it back in her purse.

On the Roof-
"Just keep shooting like you are and we may cut this force down yet." Black procidedes to line up his shots he fires twice reloads and fires again his shots were devastating including one that completely disenagrated the targets head.

In the reception area-
"Your right I do." Ramirez says slowly thinking "I'll try to convince him to let you have it but it will be difficult. we could also try a bait and switch if you have another laptop we could use and if he doesn't buy it you would hopefully be in the air before he realizes it."

At the Garage-
"Sure thing."

OOC- Zombies killed so far: 32

IC-
On the roof of the motel-
"Yes, Sergeant," said Bobby Sheen. "Then maybe I'll live long enough to improve my skills so I can shoot like you are."

At the garage-
Joe Barring, Mitchell, and Jimmy began moving one of the barrels of aviation fuel closer to the garage doors, making sure to stay clear of the truck's path.

In the reception area-
Stephanie smiled. "That's brilliant!" she said. "Thank you so much. Hmm. Where could we find another laptop?"

"I know," said Bo. "Kimberly showed me hers earlier. It was in the trunk of her car. I'm not sure if it survived the explosion, but it's got information and satellite photos of the PMS compound on it. If it's still working, we ought to make a copy of that data first. When the docs are done with her and they aren't around, I'll ask her about it. I think we should try the bait and switch. I'd hold off on asking this Captain Lereux for permission for now, or it might make him suspicious."

"Since he assigned you to analyze the computer's contents, Javier, he'll probably never even look at it even after we're safely in the air."

On the T-Bone's roof -

Luke continues his volley, scoring one impale (14dmg), three other kills (11, 10 & 13 dmg) and one miss.

"Beth, calm down. No need to panic." Luke attempts to reassure her "The airforce fellows are bound to open up a huge can of whoopass right about now. They have support weapons and assault rifles. And a shitload of grenades. Unless something catastrophic happens, I think we'll be able to handle these..."

"Hey, what the -" he adds as he sees the newest occupant of the roof "That's my rifle, I'll be wanting her back when this clusterfuck is over, missy. Take good care of her."

"The scope should be zero'ed at 200 yards. Each click adds 50 yards. Use it wisely." he advises her.

"I'm Luke, by the way." he adds as he starts another round of firing.

Trying to catch up with Thayer -

"With all due respect, sir, I cannot obey that order." Cole replies to his CO on the radio inbetween deep breaths while running "We've already lost too many."

"Damn it, Hockey! Where is that cover fire!?!" he then yells over the radio "Where do you think you are? The goddamned Holiday Inn? You had better wake your ass up and get that machine of death of yours hoosing those infected folk, or I'll beat you like a redheaded stepchild when I get back! Now make me proud, sonny..."

"Hey Thayer! Hold the fuck up, will you? We'll crack some skull together, but just wait for me for fucks sake!" he yells.

OCC - tell me when Cole has a decent hitchance with the M203 (60%+).

Hotel Balcony

Hockey Deploy's his M249, setting the bipod's legs on the railing of the balcony. He bends his legs, bringing the but too his shoulder. He spoted the group, and began to line his targets up.

Outside of the Garage

"Hmm. Might be worth a try if things get cramped." Said Wallace, reaching for the greese gun, and cleaning kit. He grabbed a few magazines, and stashed them; holding the black magazines with his belt. He spotted the 18 rounds of .357 magnum, and pocketed them.

west side of motel, ground level:
McCain heard people talking all around him but he could not deal with it. He got on all fours and began to crawl toward the stairs crying out, "They are going to kill us all! We cannot do anything to stop them!"

In the communication Room:
Muttering to himself about how they should have done this in the beginning instead of waiting for the creatures to attack, Lewis began to take the equipment apart.

East of the diner:
Looking down, Alice grabbed 3 more clips of rifle ammo. She then walked around to the north side of the diner to be with the group.

In the small office:
Looking around, Jim Kerr saw that there was nothing else to look at. "Okay there is another door across the way, follow me!" Jim then exited the door.

In the hallway:
Jim pushed himself to the left of the door across from the office. He pulled his pistol from the holster and pointing it up said, "Somebody cover me."

OOC- I'm going to be away all weekend, so I won't get a chance to update again until Monday at the earliest.

Total zombies killed (including this round): 39

IC-
West of the motel-
Captain Lereux shook his head. "Has everyone taken leave of his senses?" he asked.

"I'm still with you, sir," said Phillips.

"Let's get upstairs and do what we can." Lereux noticed that McCain was finally himself again. "Sergeant, you had best follow us." The captain and the medic climbed the stairs to the balcony.

On the roof of the motel-
Sheen fired two more times. The first shot hit one of the creatures in the head, but the second jammed his rifle. "Dammit!" he cried, hastily trying to clear the jam. "Not now! Well, at least my first shot was a kill."

(Black may fire five times this round.)

On the motel's balcony-
Lereux and Phillips made their way to the northwest corner of the balcony. The captain grabbed the Kevlar helmet from the ammo crate and put it on. "Take 'em out!" he shouted, leaning on the balcony's railing and taking aim at the oncoming horde.

Duran squeezed off some shots at long range. Two shots missed, and the third jammed. "Caramba!" he shouted.

(Hockey has five combat rounds to fire. If he uses his rifle this round, he must fire at half skill. Since his SAW has a bipod, however, he may fire it without penalty. It has a rate of fire of 20, which may be divided up among multiple targets during each combat round. Roll to hit once per target. His chance to hit is 80%, plus 5% for each bullet in the burst after the first with a maximum chance of 90%. Thus, any burst of 3 or more bullets has a 90% chance to hit. Remember, when firing a burst of X bullets, roll 1dX if he hits to see how many bullets hit the target, then for each bullet roll 1d8 for hit location and 2d8 for damage. If he gets an impale, only the first bullet to hit in the burst does double damage, which would be 4d8. The others do normal damage of 2d8. There are currently 85 bullets in the belt, so he can exhaust the entire belt in the time he has to fire if he wishes, though if he does he won't have time for anything else until after the next update.)

In the comm room-
Lt. Malone, Lewis, Mikhalin, and Malanowski continued dismantling the communications gear. There were a lot of parts, and progress was slow but steady.

On the north road-
Cole kept following Thayer. They were now well past the Claymore, and a third of the way to the creatures.

(Thayer will be 150 yards north of the motel at the end of this round, and Cole will be 130 yards north of the motel if he keeps running after him this round. The following round both of them will be able to fire with no range penalty.)

At the garage-
Baldwin followed Alice, Samantha, and Jenny around the north side of the T-Bone. They soon arrived outside the garage entrance.

David put the truck into reverse and ever so carefully backed it into the garage. He expertly coasted to a halt without mishap, even though the brakes had not had time to bleed out. Then he shut off the engine and hopped out of the cab. "Okay," he said, "let's get back to work. Everyone out there who wants to get inside better hurry! We're going to close the door soon!"

Mitchell, Jimmy, and Joe Barring deposited the first barrel of aviation fuel near the door. Then Mitchell and Jimmy joined David in resuming the repairs.

Michael got out of Baldwin's truck which was parked outside and hurried into the garage. "Ah, good," he said, noticing the fuel barrel. "I can close the door when it's time."

East of the diner-
Now that Baldwin had left to follow the others, Wallace was the only one still on ground level behind the diner.

On the roof of the diner-
"Yeah, I guess you're right," said Beth. "There aren't as many as last time, and there are more of us with better weapons. I just wish they were close enough for me to hit them- wait, no I don't! They're less than a quarter-mile off already."

"Sure, no problem," said Erica as she took aim and adjusted the rifle's sights. "We can swap rifles after this. Yours is in pretty good shape, considering. Nothing a good cleaning won't fix, but there's no time for that now. I'm Erica Spears, Nebraska State Police." She started firing. Her first three shots were off, but she soon got the hang of it and her next two were direct hits between the eyes. Both of her targets crumpled, their heads blown off.

Willie deftly cleared his jammed rifle. He had just enough time to get off one shot afterwards, but he narrowly missed.

(Luke has two bullets left in his current magazine, so he must reload at some point. He gets four shots this time.)

In the warehouse-
Mr. Foo continued trying to reach Kerry, but she was still unresponsive.

"Anyone here know where I can get a pistol?" asked Rosie. "I feel kind of defenseless with those things closing in."

Mrs. Foo nodded. "I could use gun too."

Ellen looked at Azadeh. "Don't you have a pistol?" she asked.

"Yes," said Azadeh, "but I need it. I'm pretty low on ammo for my rifle. The pistol too, for that matter."

In the reception area-
Stephanie busied herself with the computer while Bo kept watch on the hallway. He saw Jim Kerr and Robert emerged from the far door on the left. "Find anything?" he called.

"Nope," answered Robert. "Just an office, probably the commander's. Didn't find anything in it, though."

In the kitchen-
"Let me see your wound," Dr. Blanco said to Kimberly. She unwrapped the bandages and examined it, then drew a blood sample.

"Any idea why I would be immune?" asked Kimberly. "Are there any groups of people who haven't been among the infected? I'm a carrier for sickle-cell trait. Maybe that's it."

"The infection doesn't seem to know any bounds. People of all ages, races, and ethnic backgrounds have all been among the infected. What about chemical substances? Have you been taking any medications?"

"Not lately. I have ingested quite a few drugs in the course of my duties. I'm an undercover DEA agent, or rather I was before all this happened. I've had to take various narcotics, opiates, and even the odd hallucinogen to maintain my cover."

"Hmm. Even if one of those drugs is the reason, there's no way of knowing which one."

Zorie examined Dr. Hausmann's arm. "No bite marks," she said. "That's a good sign."

Sally watched the kettle. "Water should be boiling in another minute or so," she said.

In the hallway-
"I've got you covered," said Robert. Jim pulled the door handle, but it was locked. "Well, that was bound to happen sooner or later."

"Allow me, boys," said Lynne leaving the office and sliding between them with her lockpicks already in her hand. The lock did not yield, however. "Hmm, this one's a tricky one. Give me a couple minutes."

Gary also returned to the hallway, with Max following him and sniffing the air.
