Jack had spent ten minutes wandering the base when he came upon a group of rats.

A large group of rats.

As they charged, Jack pounded three .45 slugs into the brainpan of the lead rat.

The other rats begain to eat their fallen comrate, while others continued advancing.

Aiming carefuly at their heads, Jack fired four more rounds.

'One left' Jack thought.

Jack squezen the triger, but there was a muffled thump and no recoil.

'Oh shit, bad round.

Knowing it was now worthless, Jack dropped his gun and ran.

Kahgan and Greg continued their search and found yet another room. They got in and found three ammo crates. Greg opened the first one and found around 100 12.ga shotgun shells.
"Oh damn, Nice!" Greg said and put the shotgun shells in his pack. He opened the next one while Kahgan was doing some serious work getting the last crate opened. Kahgan opened his crate and found some flares and a two clips for his uzi. He packed it in his backpack. Greg opened his crate.
"Yeehaaw!" Greg suddenly cried out loud.
"What's up?" Kahgan asked.
Greg pulled up a combat shotgun from the crate and said:"This is what's up!"

After the initial glee of finding a new toy and using it happily on a few rats as he had traveled down the halls, Fenix began to realize how much a pain in the ass it was to carry 60 pounds of gear.

Room after room had revealed little except for mildly interesting, but useless projects regarding the current mission he was on. Even so he grabbed all the notes and manuals he found for different types of healing chems, special ammunitions, experimental weaponry, and forms of transport including jetpacks and types of new rocket fuel. One thing that stood out was a suit designed for infantry consisting of a very small lens containing a H.U.D. and a miniature computer with dozens of combat functions. A harmless looking plug extended from the small computer unit that according to the nearby blueprints(to which were almost becoming cliche to Fenix)was meant to be pugged into a gun to display it's ammo readout and put up a targeting reticle where it is pointed.

He added the system to his pack and trudged all the way to the end of the corridor where he gave an appreciative sigh and radioed in an all clear of the area and it's potentially useful experiments before he headed back to the main hall to meet with the others.

Rob quickly headed down the corridor to the hall as he emptied out his clips on rats along the way.

Rob reached the main hall and headed over to Fenix.

"well well..........look who it is,I havent seen you for awhile"said Rob

Jack rounded a corner and saw Rob and Fenic.

"Rats!" Jack shouted "Huge fucking rats"

Before anyone could ask any questions, a swarm of rats came around the corner

As soon as the others were behind him, Fenix let loose a burst from his new toy. The rats died.
"Jack, wheres your gun." Fenix asked.

"I had a bad round that expldoed in the chamber, the guns toast."

"Listen Jack if you want you can use my laser pistol here seeing as it is becoming a little heavy for me with my new gun."

After Fenix Said this he extended the weapon and it's bulky back mounted power source to Jack.

"Here take it man."

Jack adjusted the straps for the powersource and adjusted his pistols holster so the laster pistol fit in it.

"Ok guys, lets go meet the Major on level two."

Fenix quickly took point with Rosco as they advanced to the elevator.

"Hey you guys you are never going to believe some of the cool stuff I found in the science area. Check this out."

Fenix took his targeting computer out and plugged it into the new gun of his. A few affirmative beeps and a connection was established.

"Allright it works. It's got depth, rangefinder, GPS, weapon status, commlinks, and a targeting reticle on the hud screen."

Jack and Rob both took a look through the device and nodded.

"Lets keep going shall we." Rob stated.

The group had finally gathered at the front area of the second level near the elevator to level three.

“Can you get it up and running long enough to get us down there?” the question was directed at Jack.

“Well, let me see.” Jack opened up the main access panel for the power supply and studied it for a moment.

“Hmmmmmm….. What the hell???? Where does that go? Okay I see.” This continued for a little while longer until an annoyed Arco spoke up in a harsh tone.

“Can you fix it or not?”

“Nope. There is no way to bypass the primary power connections. Plus we have no way to power it. We have to find the main computer and power it up from there.”

Rob spoke up, “Just one problem. According to this directory for new personnel that I the Major and I found the one of offices, primary computer control is on the third level. That is partly why we needed to get down there.”

“Right, I guess I’m out of ideas then.” Said Jack

“Do any of you degenerates have some rope?” spoke Arco

“Rope? Why?”

“So we can get down to level three imbeciles. There is hole is the floor of the administrator’s office leading right down to the next level.” Replied Arco

“Yeah, I have some.” It was Kahgan this time.

“Fine, but some one needs to stay up here to let that raider and anyone else whose comes down in to this level.” Said Arco

“All right, Rosco and I will stay up here.” Called Fenix

“Here’s the card key for this level. Once we have power restored you should be able take the elevator down.” Said Arco

Arco watched Kahgan and Greg secure the rope to a support beam in the room. The rope and beam looked like they could take some stress but not a ton. It would probably be best if he removed his power armor for now and just where the medium lightweight armor he wore underneath. After he did everyone but Rosco and Fenix went down the rope into onto level three. Once there they found only darkness. They lit a few flares and found that were right in front of small steel door with the faded letters C*n**al Co*pu**r A*ea: Au**or*ze* Per*o**el **ly

“I this is it,” spoke Jack. Jack tried to fiddle with the card reading for a moment but do the fact the backup power wasn’t working. “I can’t get it to work.”

“Everyone find something so we can try and pry it.” Replied Arco

The group found various pieces of scrap metal for the base lying directly around the door. From what they could tell at this moment, this level appeared to be in much worse shape than the prior one. The group went to pry the door open and after much strain and effort managed to do so.

Strangely enough the backup power was operational in this room. Jack walked up to the main computer, switched it on, and started the power up procedures. It then asked jack for a password.

“Hang on a sec, I need to hack the pass code for the reboot of the main power……kay…….no, no, no………dammit………okay. Done.”

“Scorp, get your ass down here now!!!!” Arco shouted it the radio. “I want everyone else to stay here and wait while I go see what is happening with others, understood?”

The group seemed to.

Jack, not having anything to do with power restored, sat down and play'd with his new weapon.
With the weight of the powerpaclk, he would be overleaded once he got back to the surface and Tenel Ka.
'And she's better with one handed weapons, too.....' Jack realized that he would proably have to leave his rifle behind, and have other BoS units pick it up if they needed it.
'It's either that, or the grenade launcher. One of them has to go,'
Jack's thoughts were interrupted by a noise, Scorp had arrived.

"Did you miss me, kids?" Scorp said as he appeared. He hung his SAW on his back and unholstered his pistol. Only rats had been spotted up till now. It would be a shame to waste that 5.56mm ammo on stupid rats...

"Ready for some fun, Frank?" Scorp said and he hit the man in the back.

"Lock and load." Frank responded as he pumped his shotgun.

Arco rolled with his eyes. How did he get stuck with such a bunch of macho morons?

"If you ladies are done with your makeup, we might get started exploring this hole in the ground, mkay?" Arco said as he walked off.

Miles looked down the hole and secured a rope to a nearby equipment tie down. Taking a breath he grinned at Arco and Scorp. " See ya on the other side" rappelling down the shaft till he floor below Miles looked up.

"Bit dark down here but I'm ok so far, come on down"Lighting a flare Miles stepped forward, they seemed to be in some sort of storage room that had a bunch of wrecked cardboard boxes.

It was damn dark though, things where moving outside the sight line he could feel it. A cold shiver ran threw his bones as he looked into the darkness waiting for the next person down the rope.

Everyone hurried down the rope and had arrived on the third floor now. The storage room to the left of the main computer room yielded nothing and the search for the hall of records followed. Somehow the young warrior, Arco, had a feeling that whatever caused the inhabitants of this site to perish was the same thing they would be forced to face on this level.

“We stay together down here, okay boys and girls?” stated Arco

“Why?” asked frank, “and I don’t see any ladies down here.”

“Because I said so, smart assed little girl.” Replied a somewhat irritated Arco

Arco and Scopio took point on the group and Fenix and Rosco had the rear.

As they made their way up the main hall back to where the elevator was, they began to here sounds, coarse scrapings and long, shrieking metallic scratches. These sounds in combination with the flashing, broken lighting system began to put everyone on edge.

“What do you think that is?” asked jack.

“I think you should shut up!” Scorp knew this wasn’t the time for chit chat.

The group continued up the hall until they reached the intersection of another hallway. It was at the moment that the unseen menace attacked. It tackled Arco with a ferocious force and drove him to the floor. Somehow he, perhaps with the help of another, managed to get the beast off of him and brought it down with a few shots from his Plasma Rifle and some assistance form Scorp’s SAW.

What they saw before them was unlike any other creature they had seen. It appeared to be around 5 feet 5 inches and around two-hundred-twenty-five lbs. The whole beast was made of pure muscle mass; it appeared to have no body fat. Its legs were short and its arms were much longer would normally be expected, much like a gorilla. The whole creature was without any hair and had a creamed colored skin. Its most odd feature was its head. It sat very flatly at the front on the base of the shoulders; the creature completely lacked a neck.

As the group cautiously moved on, the beast sprung back up from the floor and lunged out at Fenix only to be silenced by a short hail of gunfire. The problems that came next might have very well been the caused by the short grunts the beast made upon its awakening. Soon three more of the beasts could be heard heading in their direction.

“Everyone get to cover now!”

The group covered as best they could and prepared for the coming battle.

"Well... Somebody has been messing with my steroid stash, I see! We can't have that, now can we?" Scorp said before bursting out in semi-hysterical laughter. He slowly crouched and opened fire. No burst this time. Spray and pray time! A hail of lead filled the corridor...

Frank repetitively shot the beast that had previously been knocked out from point blank range. The shotgun shells slowly turned the things head into a red mush. When he was certain the thing wouldn't come alive again he turned towards where the other things were coming from.

"Eat that suckers, it's high in minerals!" He screamed as he threw one of his frag grenades down the corridor.

Yet somehow, the beasts were barely slowed and kept on coming...

Ducking down next to scorp Miles looked down the corridor his carbine up and ready for a visual threat. The ringing in his ears from Scorps rapid fire was making it impossible to hear anything moving beyond site ranges. Taking a flare from his vest and popping the cap off Miles hurled it down the corridor. At least one of the creatures ducked away from the light into the shadow and kept moving.

Squeezing the trigger gently and placing short bursts down the corridor as the Frank threw the grenade down towards the advancing creatures."Now is not time to be lunch eh Scorp"Miles yelled above the gunfire as he changed magazines, preparing to fire single rounds to conserve ammunition.

Jack had ben knocked to the ground when Arco was attacked, and wasnt able to engage in the inital fight.
However, he quickly got up and took cover.
'Like those old pre-war tapes in the vault say, duck and cover.'
Seeing slight movement down the hall, Jack fired off a beam of light.
A scream of pain was heard, then more screams.
Whatever had been hit was being eaten.
Jack had the beginings of a plan forming, but he didnt know exactly what.....

Kahgan and Greg had jumped down behind a desk and turned it over. Greg was firing the combat shotgun repeatively and Kahgan just assisted with the UZI as he only had two clips left. After finnishing of one of the beasts with two shotgun shots in the stomach and an UZI-burst in the head, another came raving over, It tried to jump at Greg, but hit one foot in the desk, allmost shredding it to pieces. The beast also hit the head against the wall, so it took a few seconds to recover. And at that point, Kahgan drew his 10mm and fired all twelve shots in its head, from only two inches hold. Greg was buisy shooting the other way when he noticed something in one of the drawers of the desk, some wires and cables mixed together, he quickly put it in his pockets.

Fenix was firing full auto down at the last beast with the green capped shells. Although uncertain at first, due to the extreme rate of fire he was beginning to notice that each one that landed on a beast exploded once under the skin to cause more damage. He made a quick mental note of this before firing a stream of lead into the rushing beasts maw, and silencing it completely.

Alas the groups had been taken into a trap. They had silenced the beasts in the hallway in front of them but the sounds of more filled the other five hallways leading to the intersection in front of them and quite possible the one behind them. Their numbers lay eluded in the echoes of the long dormant hallways and worse yet the group would soon be low on ammunition.

As they prepared for the next round, the major shouted, “God Damned Fucking Idiots, what the hell do think we are sitting on pile of ammunition! Well placed single round ladies, none fucking burst waste bullshit!” It was true they only had the ammo they had on them and given the condition of this level it was doubtfully that there was any down here.

The Major knew in his mind that the next wave wasn’t a game it was for fucking keeps.

Seeing the group of beastes begaining to form up again in one hallway, Jack let off a long buirst lighting up the hall.
Amazingly, most of the beastes seemed to be able to dodge out of the way.
But one didnt. It's hide was slized open, spilling some blood in places where the wound didnt cauterize.
It was immeditly pounced on by other creatures, and lost to Jack's sight.
Suddenly, something clicked in Jack's mind.
He knew what must be done.
