IGN launched Planet Fallout

This "Planet Fallout" is pretty oh-hum to me. Nothing I haven't seen before, and I've seen it dome better.

Aside from copy-pasting stuff from my wiki without attribution? Of course I don't blame Briosa for this, but his staff should know better.

Yes is almost all copy/paste :?

Edit: i found in the end of enemies a link to the vault, Ausir.

Hey. Some guy is going nuts with copy pasting info from the Vault. We're working on stopping him and reverting the changes.

the wiki is open for everyone now, so although the staff knows best by now, those things will happen. Just point them to us, and we'll fix them.

I like the postcard generator, it's really insane :)

And yeah I'm helping out in running the place, two other guys from the staff come regularly to NMA, and when we agreed to help out there were made enough guarantees that it wouldn't be a project against the established community, but instead something that would add to what is being done, and that seemed fine to us.

Any doubt ot suggestion pm me, or use Meebo on my blog, or email me, or post on the PlanetFallout forum, I'm always open to listen you to guys and girls.

What was your reasoning for creating a second wiki when the Vault has been up and running - independently - for years, and doing the job perfectly well?

To me it seems a little disrespectful. If it was Bethesda, fine, but a member of the fan community...

Maybe Ausir sees it differently.

It was something that Gamespy wanted and installs by default on all of their new sites, not the staff.

Didn't your cleanup go a bit too far, BN? The first two or three comments were quite on topic.

Yeah, but too obvious lead-ins to off-topic discussion.

I wonder how well their forums will go.

Hey, if it means less Fallout 3 fans going to NMA and DaC and going to Planet Fallout instead, I'm a-ok with that.

This (the descriptions) is largely copy-pasted from The Vault:.

Sue them.

Y'know, I thought every IGNPlanet site had a wiki, but 'pon checkin' it doesn't.

Regardless, it looks like a GameSpy initiative.

All the new ones do, the older ones might not.

There is now. Still, they shouldn't copy-paste it if their wiki is not licensed under the GNU FDL free license (and it is (c) GameSpy instead), even if they attribute the info to The Vault.

Fair enough re: the wiki. Still, I know it'd piss me off, especially if I'd put as much into TV as Ausir has, and given how it's almost certain much of that work's going to make its way uncredited over to the IGN site. Hopefully TV will remain the more popular and definitive source.

Wow. I don’t know how reliable this wiki of theirs is with this stuff, but some of the info in there is nauseating to say the least:

Planet Fallout Wiki said:
Head/Apparel
Eyeglasses (DR: 1, WG: --, VAL: 3)
Pre-War Baseball Cap (DR: 3, WG: 1, VAL 42, PER +1)
Bandana (DR: 1, WG: 1, Val: 1, PER+1)
Biker Goggles (DR: 1, WG: 1, Val: 2)

The goggles… they do nothing? Instead we have baseball caps and bandanas increasing perception? I guess we can all stop hoping that Bethesda will try and put some sense in their magical clothing system.

Mentats
Description: Become smarter with the power of Mentats.
Value: 20
Effects: PER +5, INT +5

Come on, "the power of Mentats"? Plus, 5 points for two stats a fix is plain abusive. Makes me wonder if they removed the 10 point cap.

I'm thinking it will.

Still, IGN has a lot more money to throw about then - say - The Vault or NMA.

Wikis are never 100% reliable. If they list item stats, you do have to wonder where they'd be getting them from.

lol.

Seriously, if this info is correct, Fallout 3 is even worse than I'd have thought

Jet

Description:
Value: 20 bottle caps
Effects: AP+30

Quote:
Mentats

Description: Become smarter with the power of Mentats.
Value: 20
Effects: PER +5, INT +5

Quote:
Psycho

Description:
Value: 20
Effects: +25% Damage

Magic potion day!

I'm pretty sure all of this info was taken from released videos, so the chances are these items were hacked for the demo

Yep, we won't be sure until end of October, when the game is released and the new info and features on the site show up.

And that wiki copy/pasting was made by one guy that went a bit nuts, we're still trying to fix that. It wasn't the staff Ausir.

I just finished reverting that stuff

Why would they be hacked?

To have more noticeable effect? I don't know. I do know, however, that PC was hacked for the demo. I can see them hacking items and weapons as well.

Meh, I don't buy it. It's like dumbing down AI on purpose for the demo so it wouldn't be too good.

I have no doubt that the maximum of 10 on the SPECIAL stats has been increased for Fallout 3.

Then again, I could be wrong. Bethesda is pretty good about not allowing the stats in The Elder Scrolls go beyond 100 without magical equipment. Although allowing Power Armor to increase your strength beyond 10 would be an improvement IMO. You might argue that the strength of the power armor is only so much, but wouldn't it work both ways? I mean a person with 6 strength goes up to 9 but a 7 strength goes up to 10. Why wouldn't the power armor make everyone have a strength of 10? Knowing power armor is in the game always resulted in me having 6 strength because I knew more would simply be a waste of points. 8 is good for the perks.. but you can always cheat and use a little buffout.

And how come drugs have fixed values ? Don't tell me that they also scrapped the concepts of market, demand, bartering etc...Please, don't !

a cap does keep the sun out of your eyes, as well as keep empty brass from hitting you square in the face. so in its very own way it increases perception (or at least counters negative perception effects). :)

that said, the rest is a load of dried brahmin bullocks.

as for the postcard thing? it got blocked by my ABP on firefox. and well, it didn't turn out to be that great really. don't get what the fuss is about.

@ Briosa: you'll need around the clock staff checking the wiki if you don't want a shitload of copy pasta from Ausir's Vault... and not to mention a bunch of copyrighted stuff.
it probably would be easier to work with a system that only updates after admin approval.
