InsideGamer previews Fallout 3

...Bethesda is putting the emphasis heavily on action, which certainly was not the defining element of Fallout. With the teaser they showed that they can bring the atmosphere to life, and with that I hope they will listen more to the fans so that they can realize this quality in their game. </blockquote>Link: InsideGamer Fallout 3 impressions

Could not agree more, good to see a review that expresses the concern I'm feeling.

Bloddy Mess was an optional trait, not the core focus of FO that Todd is making it. (Don't get me wrong I love gore, I just love dialogue, setting, choices and dark humor more).

As always, just my humble opinion.

Beyond just the reviewer, I admire the balls of a fairly large, seemingly respected site for not just towing the line, and giving an outlet for open, but dangerous, distention. Website, I salute thee.

Hello all,

I think I have to make a response on an observation here, while most of you seem to have the impression that this guy is an official reporter, it is made clear that he is a guest writer.

If my understanding of this site is well, guest writers are often writers from the site's audience, and their comments are not the same as that of an official reporter or writer of the site.

Yes, this is more public than an angry rant on a forum but it would have more 'effect' if it had been written by one of the 'employees' of the site itself.

They might as well write in their 'official' article tomorrow how much they like this game and how they feel the gameplay is an evolution of the original game while maintaining the atmosphere of Fallout 1 and 2 perfectly.

Sorry guys :(

And my apologies in case I was wrong.

I agree

I agree with the article!

But you know in that pic, that the tank stopped and tried to go around him? xD

I could have sworn that I saw video of him climbing on top of the tank and throwing rocks at the driver...

I applaud the writer for his effort, but sadly Insidegamer isn't exactly the premiere gaming site in the Dutch-speaking region. In fact, many comments on the article seem to consist of "vet!", which is Dutch for "awesome", implying they didn't even get the tone of the damn article. Someone even thought Fallout was a racing game.

I doubt this will have much of an impact. It's nice to see an article like this appear somewhere outside of NMA/DaC/Codex, though. Hopefully more will follow.

Hello Midwinter,

Nice to see more Dutch Fallout fans.

Regarding your response, the problem is, it won't be any of the reporters themselves who will be critical.
Sites and magazines are to worried how Bethesda would react if they were too critical or negative, it might cost them the review just before the game's release and any future Bethesda news.

Well that scene has been lampooned eleventy-billion times so maybe you have.

firstly, in the news there is a little mistake: "nothing" instead of "noting" (the good aspects of the forthcoming game)

and the preview of that guy was the first one which wasn't just about praising the greatness of beth$oft. unluckily it's only a guest preview and in dutch, so probably not many people will read this, which is a pity because it was also very well written.

True... and also, it's one of the few things that actually translates fairly well through Babelfish. I wish more gaming mags were open and honest 'bout it like that guy was, instead of feelin' the need to kiss Bethe$da's toes all the time.

Well its nice to know that there are more Dutch Fallout fans who are rather critical about Bethesda's Fallout 3.

I'm sure there is much more of you :)
Personally I don't know one person who likes Bethesdas vision of new Fallout. Even people who played it very little aren't pleased. It must be something wrong with people who write those artices (the other articles :) ), not with us.

A lot of people who never played Fallout are probably pleased to hear of this Obilivion with Guns and Resident Evil mutants.

Why the press is raving mad about it after a one-hour demo that included more walking around and combat than anything else? Who knows. Gaming press is a joke. Fact.

No! Gaming press is not a joke!
.. if it was a joke, it'd be funny.

*recorded sitcom laughter*

So does this mean he's not invited to the next Bethesda press event?

He wasn't invited to the first one, as I gather. These are just his opinions based on other previews.
